Site service contracts

Traditionally, a common solution to the problem of matching relatively higher levels of technical support with lower chemical volumes for these smaller customers has been via a one- to three-year, fully inclusive product and services contract. Such a contract will specify the frequency of service visits to be made to the customer s site and the type of work to be carried out. It will also, perhaps, limit the maximum volumes of chemical treatments to be supplied during the contract lifetime, or perhaps designate the amount of chemicals required based on treating a certain annual volume of boiler FW. Contracts may include for the provision of chemical feed and control equipment and for the supply of labor for boiler cleaning, chemical addition, and drum removal services (drumless delivery). If the system is developed in-house there is the obvious cost of the development labor, but even if the system is purchased, staff will have to be committed to requirements analysis, liaison with the system vendor, integration of the system into operations, and in-house system support and maintenance. If the system is modest (based on a small minicomputer or super microcomputer), only the acquisition cost may be significant. If the system is a large one (based on a mainframe or super minicomputer) then the cost of site preparation, air conditioning, cable installation and service contracts will have to be considered. 

Therefore it is required of all buyers that, while they essentially retain the right to propose and enforce the rules of the water treatment contract, they have to also accept some responsibility in its smooth passage. Buyers thus cannot place responsibilities on field representatives, for areas of the operator s plant or process, over which they have no final control. It is untenable. Buyers have to manage their own plants and ensure that proper maintenance and repair work is carried out. Buyers also have to provide adequate resources to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all company workers and visitors on-site. Service company representatives, in turn, have to work within established plant rules.

Process sludge off-site through contract dewatering or other means. A limited number of municipalities offer this as a service to their industrial discharge customers. Also, several private waste processors offer this service in North America. 

IBM s Optimizer [14] is a system for optimizing spare parts required by installed population of IBM products that exceeds tens of millions. The system tracks 200,000 part numbers and 15 million SKUs. It is used by over 15,000 customer engineers (CEs) that call in part requests. The parts may be delivered to the customer site before or after the CE arrives, the CE may use parts stored on the customer premise, or the CEs may carry a limited number of parts. The system was intended to minimize the overall inventory and transport cost while maintaining the part availability level (PAL) as specified by the service contracts. 

Service from software vendor After the e-SCM system was implemented, different levels of service including 24x7 phone response, remote assistance, on-site assistance, data backup, and retrieval assistance were provided to Valvex by the software vendor based on the service contract agreement.

It is important that you inform the subcontractor through the contract of how the product or service will be accepted. Will it be as a result of receipt inspection at the specified destination or as a result of acceptance tests witnessed on site by your authorized representative These details need to be specified at the tendering stage so that the subcontractor can make provision in the quotation to support any of your activities on site. If you have invoked ISO 9001 in the subcontract, you are protected by clause 4.6.4.2. If you have not, you need to specify a similar provision in your subcontract, otherwise you may lose the right to reject the product later. There is no requirement for you to document your proposal to verify product at the subcontractor s premises but such a plan would indeed be a useful section in any quality plan that you produced. LIMS as rented service— The application service provision provider (ASP) is a means of obtaining access to software applications without the need to acquire expensive licenses and hardware or employ high-cost support resources [7]. The application is hosted on a third-party site with system maintenance, backup, and recovery provided by a third party. Products and services can be rented for a contract period on a fixed cost per user/per month basis. The advantages of obtaining LIMS in this fashion include reduced cost in initial investment and reduced requirement of resources for maintaining the LIMS. The continued security and integrity of the data transferred over the Internet is a major concern for this type of LIMS. 

This company founded in 1994, is a contract molecular biology and screening service company for the pharmaceutical, research, and clinical markets worldwide. Custom services include gene synthesis, DNA sequencing, site-directed mutagenesis, nucleic acid purification, and genotype/genetic analysis. 

Subsequent to awarding the contract for the two chlor-alkali plants to Kvaerner Chemetics, Orica contracted with Kvaerner Process Australia to provide services for the chlor-paraffin plant and Outside Battery Limits activities associated with the new Melbourne site, as this would bring synergies to the total project as well as potential cost savings. 

In-house maintenance services at the toller site become an outsourced function. The client company must determine if their toll will be impacted. If so, work with the toller to evaluate the compatibility of the new contract maintenance personnel. 

Pricing of cooling water programs by water treatment vendors will almost always take into account the amount of service time expected to be spent on-site during the life of the contract or for each fiscal year for routine analytical inspection and advisory work. 

The cost of the service time charged to the contract varies considerably, depending on the size and nature of the water treatment vendor and the country in which the work takes place. And so it is common for water treatment companies to issue internal instructions to their representatives governing the amount of routine service time that may be spent on a customer s site as a ratio of the cooling water account value. 

Because of instances of fraud, the FDA has instituted procedures for the debarment of individuals. An NDA needs to contain a certification that the applicant has not and will not use the services of any debarred individual in any capacity (14). Notices of the debarment of individuals are published in the Federal Register. The current debarment list is available from the FDA internet site or from the Division of Compliance Policy. Note that the certification includes the statement that the applicant will not use any debarred person in the future. Thus, it is recommended that the list be checked periodically, especially before letting any contracts. The FDA has been interpreting the phrase in any capacity to include jobs that are not involved with drug development, such as landscaper or accountant.
