In general, the best way to deal with a feed impurity is to purify the feed before it enters the process. Let us return to the isopropyl alcohol process from Fig. 10.3. Propylene is fed to the process containing propane as a feed impurity. In Fig. 10.3 the propane is removed from the process using a purge. This causes waste of... [Pg.282]

Catacarb process An extraction process used to remove carbon dioxide from process gases by scrubbing the hot gases with potassium carbonate solution containing additives which increase the hydration rate of the gas in the solution. The Vetrocoke process is similar. See Benfield process. [Pg.85]

Malic acid crystallizes in colourless needles m.p. lOO C. It o- curs in many acid fruits, such as grapes, apples and gooseberries. It can be prepared by microbiological processes using various moulds or from ( + )-bromosuccinic acid by the action of NaOH. [Pg.248]

It is clear that these gases have widely varying compositions according to the processes used, but refinery gas is distinguished from natural gases by the presence of hydrogen, mono- and diolefins, and even acetylenes. [Pg.71]

In the systematic approach, the contaminated signal was processed using transients with parameters selected from a uniformly sampled grid in the parameter space. For each parameter value, the quality of the processed signal was computed. An example result is presented in Figure 2 which shows the performance as a function of the two parameters and / p. The parameter values /, and which yielded the lowest entropy were selected for processing. [Pg.91]

Germanium(II) fluoride can be prepared by a similar process using a slightly lower temperature.)... [Pg.197]

Different types of other coal liquefaction processes have been also developed to convert coals to liqnid hydrocarbon fnels. These include high-temperature solvent extraction processes in which no catalyst is added. The solvent is usually a hydroaromatic hydrogen donor, whereas molecnlar hydrogen is added as a secondary source of hydrogen. Similar but catalytic liquefaction processes use zinc chloride and other catalysts, usually under forceful conditions (375-425°C, 100-200 atm). In our own research, superacidic HF-BFo-induced hydroliquefaction of coals, which involves depolymerization-ionic hydrogenation, was found to be highly effective at relatively modest temperatnres (150-170°C). [Pg.132]

The nebulization and evaporation processes used for the particle-beam interface have closely similar parallels with atmospheric-pressure ionization (API), thermospray (TS), plasmaspray (PS), and electrospray (ES) combined inlet/ionization systems (see Chapters 8, 9, and 11). In all of these systems, a stream of liquid, usually but not necessarily from an HPLC column, is first nebulized... [Pg.79]

Furan can be catalyticaHy oxidized in the vapor phase with oxygen-containing gases to maleic anhydride (93). Oxidation with bromine or in an electrochemical process using bromide ion gives 2,5-dimethoxy-2,5-dihydrofuran [332-77-4] (19) which is a cycHc acetal of maleic dialdehyde (94—96). [Pg.81]

In 1987, Toray Industries, Inc., announced the development of a new process for making aromatic nitriles which reportedly halved the production cost, reduced waste treatment requirements, and reduced production time by more than two-thirds, compared with the vapor-phase process used by most producers. The process iavolves the reaction of ben2oic acid (or substituted ben2oic acid) with urea at 220—240°C ia the presence of a metallic catalyst (78). [Pg.225]

An extremely important safety issue with respect to ah. wood product manufacturing processes is personal worker safety. Ah of the processes use much moving machinery, usuahy including many saws or knives. Workers must continuahy remember the inherent dangers these machines involve as weh as other possible dangerous situations which could result from malfunctions or other errors. In addition, most processes are more or less dusty and noisy. Most employers require use of safety glasses and many require hearing protection, safety shoes, and hardhats as weh as other kinds of protection needed for Specific jobs. [Pg.379]
