How to Use Employees in the Process

You can involve your employees in the management system and safety program by having them conduct regularly scheduled, routine physical surveys using a checklist. Make sure that employees have adequate and appropriate training also, employees should be expected to help with decisions about hazard correction as well as hazard identification. 

You may also choose to ask the safety committee to study one or two difficult safety problems that management has been unable to resolve. Once the committee is established and functioning successfully, it will be in a position to suggest other ways to involve your employees in the safety program. One last committee could not be a short-term committee to solve a specific issue. Employees will probably get more involved if they can see the light at the end of the tunnel (one or two month assignments). 

Always remember that it is the employer who has ultimate legal responsibility for making sure that the workplace is safe for all employees [7].
