Pancreatic tumor

Clinical trials showed therapeutic efficacy in a broad spectrum of tumors these include SCLC, testicular tumors, sarcomas, breast cancer, renal cell cancer, pancreatic tumors and lymphomas. Ifosfamide is less myelosuppressive than cyclophosphamide but is more toxic to the bladder. Therefore it is recommended that ifosfamide is coadministered with the thiol compound mesna to avoid hemorrhagic cystitis and to reduce the risk of developing bladder cancer. Other side effects include neurotoxicity and myelosuppression. [Pg.55]

In one study by Hood et al., 282 of 1153 identified proteins were identified by at least 2 unique tryptic peptides from FFPE prostate cancer (PCa) tissue.9 According to the gene ontology classification of the proteins identified, -65% of proteins were predicted to be intracellular proteins, while -50% of the total human proteome is predicted to be located in the intracellular compartment. Additionally, 20% of the proteins identified in the PCa tissue were classified as membrane proteins, which is significantly less than the predicted 40% for the human proteome. This relative disparity is not unexpected, considering the Liquid Tissue sample preparation kit lacks specific protocols for membrane protein extraction. The Liquid Tissue method has also been used for proteomics studies of a variety of FFPE tissue samples, including pancreatic tumors,28 squamous cell carcinoma,4 and oral human papillomavirus lesions.27... [Pg.341]

Ten healthy rats were studies in total. Eight rats were treated with variable doses of coulombs and two rats were used as controls. ECT in the rat pancreas produced local necrosis and appears safe and reproducible in the healthy rat tissue the next step is to examine its feasibility in a pig model pancreas, before evaluating it clinically for pancreatic tumors. [Pg.501]

Diazoxide given i.v. causes prominent arteriolar dilation it can be employed in hypertensive crises. After its oral administration, insulin secretion is inhibited. Accordingly, diazoxide can be used in the management of insulin-secreting pancreatic tumors. Both effects are probably due to opening of (ATP-gated) K+ channels. [Pg.118]

Repeated subcutaneous or intraperitoneal injection of manganese dichloride caused increased incidences of lymphosarcomas in mice. Chronic oral exposure of rats to manganese sulfate led to a slight increase in pancreatic tumors that was not dose responsive." There is no information relating manganese exposure to cancer occurrence in humans." Genotoxic assays have yielded mixed results."... [Pg.434]

The importance of lymphocytes in cancer treatments based on LPS had been evoked by Parr et al. [61], Their role was later emphasized in A/J mice bearing SA-1 sarcoma or BALB/c mice bearing Meth A fibrosarcoma, treated with LPS [95], and in BDEX rats bearing PROb colon carcinoma, treated with bacterial extracts [96], Furthermore, SCID mice treated with intraperitoneal (i.p.) injections of LPS are unable to reject Meth A fibrosarcoma [96], However, lipid A treatment was efficient in nude mice bearing human pancreatic tumors [134]. [Pg.530]

Polyunsaturated fat has also been found to be more effective than saturated fat in promoting the development of pancreatic tumors in rats (1 2). Similar results have been reported recently for colon cancer (22 ), although earlier experiments had indicated that saturated and polyunsaturated fats were about equally effective at high levels of intake (j l). It thus appears that there may be a general requirement for polyunsaturated fatty acids in promotion of carcinogenesis by dietary fat. [Pg.185]
