Personal Equipment

Personal Protective Equipment. Personal protective and emergency safety equipment should not be reHed on as the primary protection from aHyl chloride. Prevention of exposure should be considered the preferred precautionary measure. Where the exposure guideline may be gready exceeded, an approved positive-pressure air suppHed or self-contained breathing apparatus with fuH facepiece should be used (51). [Pg.35]

Increased maintenance cost for process equipment due to safety requirements (for example, safety permits, cleaning and purging equipment, personal protective equipment, training, and restricted access to process areas). [Pg.11]

The jobs that failed did so because of insufficient diskspace, and this occurred at the first high-level correlation step. The calculations were done with the G03 program on a computer with the 64-bit 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Quad CPU, 4.00 GB RAM, and 900 GB diskspace, running under Windows VISTA. They reflect the times and size limitations of these methods on a well-equipped personal computer as of ca. 2009 January. The use of anions here is adventitious, stemming from another project. [Pg.314]

Any spills of epoxy resin or epoxy components should be cleaned up immediately. The immediate concern is to protect personnel, prevent a possible fire hazard, and contain the spill until it is cleaned up. Persons engaged in spill clean-up should be protected from vapors and from skin contact by wearing appropriate protective clothing and equipment. Persons engaged in spill clean-up should also be aware of proper disposal techniques for the materials used in the process. [Pg.423]

A written program developed and implemented by an employer designating proceedures, equipment, personal protective equipment, and work practices that are capable of protecting employees from the health hazards presented by hazardous chemicals usid in that particular workplace. [Pg.10]

The Center is fit out with up-to-date equipment, personal computers, training manuals, posters, etc. (Fig. 14). It operates under approved programs, which include a variety of special video films. After training courses at the Center specialists are certified by representatives of OKBM, Department of State Supervision over Nuclear and Radiation Safety of RF Ministry of Defense and Rosatom (Fig. 15). [Pg.207]

This nonequivalence is no trivial matter. One major chamber manufacturer made the mistake of supplying the triphosphor lamp in its equipment (personal communication), and there is at least one reported instance of this problem being reported in the literature (32). In both instances the individuals/companies had checked with their local suppliers and received assurance that these were receiving the right lamps, which turned out not to be the case. [Pg.75]

IV. Personal protective equipment. Personal protective equipment includes chemical-resistant clothing and gloves and protective respiratory gear. The use of such equipment should be supervised by experts in industrial hygiene or others with appropriate training and experience. Equipment that is incorrectly selected, improperly fitted, poorly maintained, or inappropriately used may provide a false sense of security and may tail, resulting in serious injury. [Pg.515]

Personal protective equipment is the equipment persons wear for protection against hazards that cannot be engineered out of the system. The need for personal protective equipment can be divided into three categories ... [Pg.150]

Other new regulations (Display Screen Equipment, Work Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment) implement aspects of the MHSW 1992 and Workplace Regulations in more detail. These also fulfil some of the European legislation that has shaped our practice since 1993. This relates to the European Community Directives issued by the Council of Ministers under Article 118A of the Treaty of Rome. [Pg.13]

Personal protective equipment. Personal protective equipment designed to protect against exposure by inhalation is known as respiratory protective equipment (or RPE). Such equipment should not be used as a long-term method of ensuring that exposures are reduced to acceptable levels. This is because it is prone to mechanical failure and human error. RPE may be used appropriately for specific short-term operations (e.g. some maintenance tasks) where it is not practicable to reduce exposures to acceptable levels by other means. It may also be of value in emergency situations. Positive pressure breathing apparatus (line fed or self-contained) is preferable to canister-type respirators. For RPE to be effective when required, it must be adequately maintained and personnel fully trained in its use. [Pg.95]

Beyond 1926.950, employers will find further training provisions in Subpart V. These go over first aid, job briefings, enclosed spaces, personal protective equipment, personal fall arrest systems, working on or near exposed energized parts, testing, overhead fines and live-line barehand work, laser equipment, power-line carrier work, and more. [Pg.492]

Some hazards that remain require use of personal protective equipment. Personal protective equipment is part of a procedure. Wearing special equipment depends on human behavior and requires user cooperation. Someone must select personal protective equipment that protects against the hazard present. It must fit properly. It must be in good condition. It must be clean. It must not create additional hazards. Users must wear it, because the hazard remains. [Pg.95]

Appropriate performance standards must be defined for the operation of the safety critical aspects. A performance standard is a standard established by the operator of the performance required of a system, item of equipment, person, or procedure which is used as a basis for managing the risk of a major accident event. [Pg.256]

Personal protective equipment is the least effective management control because it needs almost constant supervision and enforcement. The advice of a specialist may be required when selecting personal protective equipment. Personal protective equipment should only be considered when other control measures are not practicable or to increase the protection given to a person. Personal protective equipment includes ... [Pg.166]

Planned inspections help management identify unsafe practices and ensure the workplace and equipment is properly maintained. Regulations may require these inspections and designate who should conduct them. The inspections typically focus on fire-fighting equipment, motor vehicles, heavy equipment, personal protective equipment, housekeeping procedures, and other workplace conditions. [Pg.4]
