The basic assumption is that the individual always has the choice of whether or not to behave in an unsafe manner. The implication of this assumption is that the responsibility for accident prevention ultimately rests with the individual worker. It also implies that as long as management has expended reasonable efforts to persuade an individual to behave responsibly, has provided training in safe methods of work, and has provided appropriate guarding of hazards or personal protection equipment, then it has discharged its responsibilities for accident prevention. If these remedies fail, the only recourse is disciplinary action and ultimately dismissal. [Pg.47]

Personal Protective Equipment Respiratory protection is required (positive pressure, full face piece, NIOSH-approved SCBA will be worn). When response personnel respond to handle rescue or reconnaissance, they will wear Level A protection that should be worn when the highest level of respiratory, skin, eye, and mucous membrane protection is needed. This level consists of a fully-encapsulated, vapor-tight, chemical-resistant suit, chemical-resistant boots with steel toe and shank, chemical-resistant inner/outer gloves (butyl rubber glove M3 and M4 Norton, chemical protective glove set), coveralls, hard hat, and self-contained (positive pressure) breathing apparatus (SCBA). [Pg.228]

Caution Product is a Poison A response personnel need to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE). [Pg.235]

The use of any tools and personal protective equipment required in the performance of their responsibilities... [Pg.119]

Any procedures they may need to follow to respond to or otherwise protect themselves in response to an emergency such training should include the use of any personal protective equipment, special tools, or equipment required for these actions. [Pg.119]

For this reason, NCRP recommends that emergency response personnel and first response vehicles should be equipped with radiation detection equipment to alert them for a radiologically compromised environment. Furthermore, this equipment should be designed to alert the responders when unacceptable ambient dose rates or dose limits are reached. Responders should wear appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., chemical safety suits, respirators). [Pg.171]

If trained to do so and confident that you are capable, activate any fire monitors and/or fixed fire water systems in the immediate area and attempt to cool the tank and surrounding equipment. If the tank is receiving material or product, close a valve on the inlet line at a safe location. Stand by to direct the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to scene Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) First Responder... [Pg.424]

All methods should be carried out only by competent persons and with adequate supervision when necessary. All obligations under The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH), should be observed, and risk-assessment documentation completed. Appropriate personal protective equipment should be provided and worn whenever recommended. Persons carrying out the procedures in this manual do so entirely at their own risk, and neither the author, publishers, or anyone mentioned in, or connected with this publication can be held in any way responsible for any accidents no matter how caused. [Pg.283]
