Attainability

PRCG cols 21-30 the maximum allowable change in any of the parameters when LMP = 1, default value is 1000. Limiting the change in the parameters prevents totally unreasonable values from being attained in the first several iterations when poor initial estimates are used. A value of PRCG equal to the magnitude of that anticipated for the parameters is usually appropriate. [Pg.223]

A distinction must be made between the different methods with respect to the temperature attained during combustion because the reaction ... [Pg.31]

Another method which should be cited apart from the others is to pyrolyze the sample in a hydrogen atmosphere. The sulfur is converted to H2S which darkens lead-acetate-impregnated paper. The speed of darkening, measured by an optical device, provides the concentration measurement. This method attains sensitivity thresholds of 0.02 ppm. [Pg.32]

This method can attain, depending on the sample, concentrations on the order of 10 ppm wt. with an error on the order of 20%. [Pg.33]

The average error is about 4°C except for the initial and final points where it attains 12°C. I... [Pg.105]

Naphthenes always have higher octane numbers —RON and MON— than their non-cyclic homologs for example, the RON of n-hexane is 24.8 while cyclohexane attains 83. [Pg.201]

In France, Superplus represented in 1993 about 90% of the demand for unleaded gasoline which itself has attained 40% of the total sales. Remember that this is an unusual situation for Europe because in most other countries Eurosuper has the major share. [Pg.210]

The diesel engine operates, inherently by its concept, at variable fuel-air ratio. One easily sees that it is not possible to attain the stoichiometric ratio because the fuel never diffuses in an ideal manner into the air for an average equivalence ratio of 1.00, the combustion chamber will contain zones that are too rich leading to incomplete combustion accompanied by smoke and soot formation. Finally, at full load, the overall equivalence ratio... [Pg.212]

At lower temperatures, the crystals increase in size, and form networks that trap the liquid and hinder its ability to flow. The pour point is attained which can, depending on the diesel fuel, vary between -15 and -30°C. This characteristic (NF T 60-105) is determined, like the cloud point, with a very rudimentary device (maintaining a test tube in the horizontal position without apparent movement of the diesel fuel inside). [Pg.215]

Figure 5.9 shows an example of the efficiency of these products. The reductions of CFPP and pour point can easily attain 6 to 12°C for concentrations between 200 and 600 ppm by weight. The treatment cost is relatively low, on the order of a few hundredths of a Franc per liter of diesel fuel. In practice, a diesel fuel containing a flow improver is recognized by the large difference (more than 10°C) between the cloud point and the CFPP. [Pg.217]

The European specifications require a minimum cetane number of 49 for the temperate climatic zones and the French automotive manufacturers require at least 50 in their own specifications. The products distributed in France and Europe are usually in the 48-55 range. Nevertheless, in most Scandinavian countries, the cetane number is lower and can attain 45-46. This situation is taken into account in the specifications for the arctic zone (Table 5.14). In the United States and Canada, the cetane numbers for diesel fuels are most often less than 50. [Pg.218]

Fuel passing through certain hot zones of an aircraft can attain high temperatures moreover it is used to cool lubricants, hydraulic fluids, or air conditioning. It is therefore necessary to control the thermal stability of jet fuels, more particularly during supersonic flight where friction heat increases temperatures in the fuel tanks. [Pg.229]

It is believed that to avoid any risk of explosion, the electrical conductivity of jet fuel should fall between 50 and 450 pS/m. This level is attained using anti-static additives which are metallic salts (chromium, calcium) added at very low levels on the order of 1 ppm. [Pg.251]

In any and all cases, desulfurization of diesel fuel is a necessary condition for attaining very low particulate levels such as will be dictated by future regulations (Girard et al., 1993). [Pg.254]

The European regulations have set SO2 emission limits for industrial combustion systems. They range from 1700 mg/Nm for power generation systems of less than 300 MW and to 400 mg/Nm for those exceeding 500 MW between 300 and 500 MW, the requirements are a linear interpolation (Figure 5.24). To give an idea how difficult it is to meet these requirements, recall that for a fuel having 4% sulfur, the SO2 emissions in a conventional boiler are about 6900 mg/Nm this means that a desulfurization level of 75% will be necessary to attain the SO2 content of 1700 mg/Nm and a level of 94% to reach 400 mg/Nm. ... [Pg.256]

This justifies all the work undertaken to arrive at fuel denitrification which, as is well known, is difficult and costly. Moreover, technological improvements can bring considerable progress to this field. That is the case with low NO burners developed at IFF. These consist of producing separated flame jets that enable lower combustion temperatures, local oxygen concentrations to be less high and a lowered fuel s nitrogen contribution to NOj. formation. In a well defined industrial installation, the burner said to be of the low NO type can attain a level of 350 mg/Nm, instead of the 600 mg/Nm with a conventional burner. [Pg.269]

Petroleum coke is in reality a hydrocarbon whose C/H ratio is very high it is usually higher than 20 and can attain 1000 after calcination. It is not, therefore, elementary carbon. [Pg.292]

The water content of crude oils at the wellhead is usually small as shown in Table 8.12 it generally increases during transport and storage and can attain 3%. [Pg.327]

The features created by crustal movements may be mountain chains, like the Himalayas, where collision of continents causes extensive compression. Conversely, the depressions of the Red Sea and East African Rift Basin are formed by extensional plate movements. Both type of movements form large scale depressions into which sediments from the surrounding elevated areas ( highs ) are transported. These depressions are termed sedimentary basins (Fig. 2.3). The basin fill can attain a thickness of several kilometres. [Pg.10]

The chemistry of cement slurries is complex. Additives will be used to ensure the slurry remains pumpable long enough at the prevailing downhole pressures and temperatures but sets (hardens) quickly enough to avoid unnecessary delays in the drilling of the next hole section. The cement also has to attain sufficient compressive strength to withstand the forces exerted by the formation over time. A spacer fluid is often pumped ahead of the slurry to clean the borehole of mudcake and thereby achieve a better cement bond between formation and cement. [Pg.56]

Gas reservoirs are produced by expansion of the gas contained in the reservoir. The high compressibility of the gas relative to the water in the reservoir (either connate water or underlying aquifer) make the gas expansion the dominant drive mechanism. Relative to oil reservoirs, the material balance calculation for gas reservoirs is rather simple. A major challenge in gas field development is to ensure a long sustainable plateau (typically 10 years) to attain a good sales price for the gas the customer usually requires a reliable supply of gas at an agreed rate over many years. The recovery factor for gas reservoirs depends upon how low the abandonment pressure can be reduced, which is why compression facilities are often provided on surface. Typical recovery factors are In the range 50 to 80 percent. [Pg.193]

One of the main surface equipment items typically required for gas fields is compression, which is installed to allow a low reservoir pressure to be attained. Gas compression takes up a large space and is expensive. If gas compression is not initially required on a platform, then its installation is usually delayed until it becomes necessary. This reduces the initial capital investment and capital exposure. Figure 8.12 indicates when gas compression is typically installed ... [Pg.199]

The increased exposure to the reservo/r results from the long horizontal sections which can be attained (between 500m and 1000m horizontal section is now common). Because the productivity index is a function of the length of reservoir drained by a well, horizontal wells can give higher productivities in laterally extensive reservoirs. As an initial estimate of the potential benefit of horizontal wells, one can use a rough rule of thumb, the... [Pg.218]

To speed up the process of attainment of the temperature steady value one can use special operations calculation without a kiln rotation, using large time intervals and calculation in two-dimensional R-tp geometry without regard for heat and mass transfer along an axis The program for realization of discussed simulation algorithms enables to calculate temperature in cells, a total number of which can not exceed 130 thousands A circular kiln structure can contain up to three layers. [Pg.421]

The sensitivity curves are plots of maximum achieved sensitivity as a function of thickness of the object for a given focal spot size and source to detector distance. The best attainable sensitivity in image intensifier systems is a function of tube voltage, current, scattered radiation and the screen gamma. As a first step, stainless steel plates with thicknesses ranging from 5 mm-30 mm in steps of 5 mm were chosen. These plates had a length of 950 mm and width of 280 mm. The plate is positioned very close and at the center to the LI. tube. The extraneous... [Pg.444]

In analogy with the investigations for 400 keV the values for 100, 200 and 300 keV, Iridium-192 and Cobalt-60 were determined (Table I, [1,3]). For Co-60 the equivalent value for film could not be reached with lead foils. Sandwich sPuctures of steel foils and lead foils were necessary. For instance, with 0,5 mm steel and 1 mm lead one could only attain about 80 % of the film value referred to 1/(1+k). The necessary equivalent value is estimated to be 0,5 mm steel and 1,5-2,0 mm lead, but we are still short of determining the precise value. [Pg.470]

This research examines the feasibility of a technique based upon the CT principle using a microfocus X-ray source with an image intensifier while the examined object is being rotated The attainable enlargement is up to 200. The data to be processed is collected from the whole surface of the image intensifier by a frame grabber and noise suppression is performed. [Pg.476]

High geometrical magnifications are attainable using a microfocus X-ray source. The capacity and speed of the computing system limits at present the size of the examined objeet volumes. [Pg.483]
