Gender

Gender cannot be tested either. As with age, there is a rumor that gender can be detected in urine, and is tested in medical insurance exams. This is another myth. It may be argued that a pregnancy test can be used to detect the gender of the urine provider, but the same test is used to detect prostate cancer in males. 

Women and men differ from each other in some constitutive and physiological parameters. For example, weight, tidal volume, and the water and fat content of the body differ between genders. 

Clewell et al. (2002b) have reviewed and evaluated the potential impact of gender-specific pharmacokinetic differences on tissue dosimetry. A large number of gender-specific quantitative differences in pharmacokinetic parameters were identified. The majority of these differences were identified between neonates/children and adults, with fewer differences being identified between young adults and the elderly. 

Differences are also obvious if chemicals have specific mechanisms of action that affect gender-specific differences, i.e., as a result of interaction with hormonal regulation, specific damage to the sex organs, or adverse effects on organs in the development of the infantile organism (Kalberlah and Schneider 1998).

Nutritional Value of Milk Products. Milk is considered one of the principal sources of nutrition for humans. Some people are intolerant to one or more components of milk so must avoid the product or consume a treated product. One example is intolerance to lactose in milk. Fluid milk is available in which the lactose has been treated to make it more digestible. The consumption of milk fat, either in fluid milk or in products derived from milk, has decreased markedly in the 1990s. Whole milk sales decreased 12% between 1985 and 1988, whereas the sales of low fat milk increased 165%, and skimmed milk sales increased 48% (35). Nutritionists have recommended that fat consumed provide no more than 30 calories, and that consumption of calories be reduced. Generally, a daily diet of 2000—3000 cal/d is needed depending on many variables, such as gender, type of work, age, body responses, exercise, etc. Further, there is concern about cholesterol [57-88-5] and density of fat consumed. The industry acknowledged women quickly as a market force, as cocktail-compatible spirits like vodka and flavored vodkas led liquor sales to the detriment of the brown barroom standards like whiskey, and bars and lounges became as design-conscious as boutiques, or as visibly unconcerned with gender issues as a co-ed college dormitory. 

Certain factors may influence drug response and are considered when the primary health care provider prescribes and the nurse administers a drug. These factors include age, weight, gender, disease, and route of administration. 

The gender of an individual may influence the action of some drugp. Women may require a smaller dose of some drugp than men. This is because many women are smaller than men and have a body fat-and-water ratio different from that of men.

This is a limiting belief, and should not be adhered to. If we only seek out mentors of the same race and gender, we limit ourselves to a narrow perspective. The basis of a mentoring relationship is to learn, and mentees cannot fully appreciate the diversity of life and work if they solely seek out opinions similar to their own. A mentor should aim to challenge and stimulate the mind of mentees, and mentees should be hungry for new ideas and creative solutions. 

Individuals, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or socio-economic level, seek mentors for many of the same reasons. This may be for resources, visibility, enhanced skill, and counsel. However, each individual or mentee brings different expectations. Successful mentors assess where a mentee is, not where the mentee should be. The mentor provides ample opportunity for expectation discussions to take place, which in turn will guide and enrich the experience.
