Sexual orientation

Individuals, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation or socio-economic level, seek mentors for many of the same reasons. This may be for resources, visibility, enhanced skill, and counsel. However, each individual or mentee brings different expectations. Successful mentors assess where a mentee is, not where the mentee should be. The mentor provides ample opportunity for expectation discussions to take place, which in turn will guide and enrich the experience. [Pg.46]

The Influence of Sexual Orientation on Human Olfactory Function... [Pg.121]

Abstract Sexual orientation influences human olfactory function. Following a brief review of the biological basis of homosexuality, this chapter explores exactly how olfactory function varies as a result of sexual orientation. Three separate areas of research are considered recent studies on the neural processing of social odorants by heterosexuals and homosexuals the influence of sexual orientation on the production and perception of body odours and the influence of female sexual orientation on menstrual synchrony. [Pg.121]

The next step is to determine how the survey will be administered. The four main ways to administer surveys are self-administered, face to face, mail, and telephone. When patients self-administer the surveys, they can answer the questions on their own. They are sometimes more willing to be truthful with sensitive information, such as income or sexual orientation. This method decreases the bias that can be introduced by an interviewer and also is the least expensive method. The downside of self-administered surveys is that patients sometimes do not finish the surveys and that some disease states make it difficult for patients to self-administer (e.g., glaucoma, rheumatoid arthritis, and Parkinson s disease). [Pg.480]

The distinctions are not trivial, and they are confused and juxtaposed in some of the existing literature. For example, Clift et al. (2002) discuss gay sex tourism in South-East England, but sample only tourists participating in openly gay events or subscribing to gay publications. Here sexual orientation and sex tourism are interwoven. Such approaches may miss the point that many homosexual couples and individuals take their holidays in nonspecialist locations and choose the same products as other community members. A more extensive analysis of the contributions and limitations of tourist studies concerned with sexual orientation and sex tourism will be developed later in this volume. [Pg.39]
