Differential movement caused by cold to heat and wet to dry repetition, is the major cause of delamination, disbond or fall-off failures of tile covering finish which occur at the interface between layers made up of different materials in the exterior concrete walls. The authors executed numerical analysis with simplified models for simulation to examine what internal stress distribution is generated in the exterior wall and how the characteristics of each material affect the stress generated in the wall under cold to heat and wet to dry cycles. [Pg.62]

This function includes all information about the operational status and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and facilities. Operational status refers to an availability state (in active service, ready, standby, in/awaiting maintenance, etc.), along with total time in service, time since last regular maintenance, and so on. The ERP system tracks maintenance schedules for the equipment and actual maintenance incidents, both preventive and remedial, and typically an attention list of things that may need inspection and refit. Any maintenance activities include both technical data (nature of fault, repair or change, parts installed, named services performed, etc.) and administrative data (authorization, execution team, date and time, etc.). In addition, this component tracks the schedules, labor, and work assignments of maintenance teams, external maintenance contracts and calls, and actual or assigned costs of maintenance activities. [Pg.334]

Pan et al. reported Tan-IIA exhibited strong growth inhibition against human cervical cancer cells (HeLa cells) in dose- and time-dependent manners with a 50% ceU growth inhibition with 2.5 pg/mL (8.49 pM). The authors executed a bioinformatics analysis of proteins to survey global protein changes induced by Tan-IIA... [Pg.3561]

Swalm started by considering a sum of money equivalent to twice the maximum expenditure that the executive could authorize in 1 year. This was used to obtain a further utility. In this way, a utihty curwe could be sketched. Swalm chose an arbitrary utility scale based on a range of—120 utiles to -t-120 utiles, (note It is as incorrect to compare utiles by ratio as it is to imply that an object at 30°C is twice as hot as an object at 15°C.)... [Pg.828]

Swalm found that most executives are conservative in their expenditure and that the patterns of utihty curves are very similar if plotted with an ordinate range of 1 unit. The unit, in this case, is the maximum authorized annual expenditure of the executive. Such curves may appear to differ quite widely when plotted in terms of absolute money values. The curves also show that executives tend to be more conservative when considering a loss than they do when considering a reduced gain. [Pg.828]

National Environmental Policy Act, 1969 The National Environmental Pohcy Act (NEPA) of 1969 was the first federal act that required coordination of federal projects and their impacts with the nation s resources. The act specified the creation of Council on Environmental Quahty in the Executive Office of the President. This body has the authority to force eveiy federal agency to submit to the council an environmental impact statement on eveiy activity or project which it may sponsor or over which it has jurisdic tion. [Pg.2162]

Some authors have not only given advice but have created methods to execute experiments to generate kinetic models. The Heuristic Approach to Complex Kinetics of Cropley (1978) which is well tested, is one that will be described next. Then, other recommendations will be discussed briefly. [Pg.140]

The factors that favour successful industrial innovation have been memorably analysed by a team at the Science Policy Research Unit at Sussex University, in England (Rothwell et al. 1974). In this project (named SAPPHO) 43 pairs of attempted similar innovations one successful in each pair, one a commercial failure - were critically compared, in order to derive valid generalisations. One conclusion was The responsible individuals (i.e., technical innovator, business innovator, chief executive, and - especially - product champion) in the successful attempts are usually more senior and have greater authority than their counterparts who fail . [Pg.381]

How many layers of our organization are involved in this system The final authority of a given management system maybe a facility manager, a division president, a corporate safety expert, the chief executive, or a plant superintendent. All of them may be involved at some stage of the process. [Pg.68]

Reference should be made to Threshold Limit Values, Guidance Note EHl7/78, issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), or Industrial Ventilation (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists). In all cases, proposals should be reviewed by and submitted to the relevant local authority agencies. [Pg.55]

Guidance notes relevant to sound health and safety practices are published from time to time by the Health and Safety Executive. They have no legal status or significance such as found in Codes of Practice. However, as their content is normally based on a wealth of practical experience, it would be expected by the enforcing authorities that employers would follow the advice contained in them. [Pg.1057]

Site work is now mostly carried out by a number of subcontractors representing specialist trades. It is essential that authority and executive action are in the hands of a main contractor and that this authority is acknowledged by the subcontractors. If this is not so, delays and omissions will occur, with divided responsibility and lack of remedial action. [Pg.132]

Executive responsibility for the administration of regulations at national level is divested in dedicated agencies. Although distinct from government departments, the Ministers of Health are the usual political masters of these national Competent Authorities. Eor example, the authority in Ireland is known as the Irish Medicines Board (IMB) and it covers both drugs and devices. Similar to the EMEA, the authorities are scientific and technical in orientation and are guided by various advisory panels. Their main tasks include ... [Pg.30]

The author is indebted to Dr. Jacob Stiglich and other members of the staff at Ultramet for their cooperation, and to an old friend. Dr. John M. Blocher Jr., for his many ideas, comments and thorough review of the manuscript. He is also grateful to George Narita, Executive Editor of Noyes Publications, for his help and patience in the preparation of this book. [Pg.5]

A recent review of option models in drug development, co-authored by a biostatistician from AstraZeneca in Molndal, Sweden [14], suggests that there has up to now been a lack of appreciation among pharmaceutical executives of the value that statistics could bring to the decision making process. This review quantifies the value of information that could terminate unsuccessful projects early and assesses the time-risk trade-off. It proves that projects split... [Pg.254]

Alternatively, the regulatory authority may be a department or division of the executive branch. Authorities of this type are headed by a director, who is appointed by the head of the executive branch or ministry. This structural arrangement allows the head of the executive branch/ministry greater influence or control over the decision-making and enforcement activities of a regulatory authority (22). [Pg.41]

Analysis of the study reports shows that the MEB in the Netherlands and the dmg regulatory authorities of Uganda and Zimbabwe are organized in a board format. The MEB, which is the main DRA in the Netherlands, is organized as a board whose members are appointed directly by the Crown. This appointment procedure makes it relatively free from the influence of other Government bodies. The MCAZ and the Ugandan NDA are also established as statutory authorities, with executive committees plus some specialized advisory committees. Although board members are appointed by the Minister of Health, their independence is established by statute. [Pg.41]

In Cuba, Tunisia and Venezuela, the dmg regulatory authorities are departments within the executive branch, the Ministry of Health, which possesses decision-making powers regarding dmg regulation. Expert committees are consulted on technical issues, rather than as decision-making bodies. Under this stmcture, the superior agency (the Ministry of Health) theoretically has the authority to alter a decision if it chooses to do so. [Pg.41]

The organizational format, however, is only one of the factors that determine the level of independence of an organization. An executive department can also be highly independent in terms of decision-making if it is invested by law with fiall authority. The TGA of Australia is an example of such an executive department. [Pg.42]

First, the qualitative and quantitative variability of the amount of catechins and proanthocyanidins present in plant extracts used for different studies is probably the most significant. This might be due to the use of different procedures of extraction, quantification and structural elucidation. In most cases, even the lack of rigorous phytochemical characterization and quantification of active compoimd(s) constitutes a severe limitation on the rehabihty of the results. The lack of commercially available pure standards (particularly for some proanthocyanidins) represents an additional problem that has so far hampered the execution of rigorous SAR studies. This hmitation means that although a munber of in vitro or in vivo studies have been carried out by using more or less pure standards of catechins or with plant extracts containing both catechins and proanthocyanidins, only a handful of authors have... [Pg.258]

At the laboratory stage, data on substances involved and their mixtures must be gathered material properties, physicochemical data, ecological and toxicological data, costs of raw materials and intermediates, an estimate of product price, energy and equipment costs, etc. These data are needed in simulation programs and to determine toxicity, safety, and impact on the environment. The data on toxicity, degradability, and safety are required by the authorities to execute an approval procedure for the plant. [Pg.196]
