Vehicles Tell where registration and other papers may be found for all motor vehicles or boats you own. Provide location of all keys and special instructions. [Pg.256]

A commercial motor vehicle providing transportation in interstate commerce must not be operated without a USDOT registration and an active USDOT number. [Pg.142]

A cargo tank and cargo tank motor vehicle manufacturer, assembler, repairer, inspector, tester, and design certifying engineer that is subject to registration requirements under 49 CFR 107.502 and 49 U.S.C. 5108 must electronically file Form MCSA-1 with FMCSA. [Pg.144]

Performance and Registration Information Systems Management (PRISM) A federal-state partnership that makes safe performance a requirement for obtaining and keeping commercial vehicle registration. The program links the Commercial Vehicle Registration Process, and the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Process (MCSIP). [Pg.678]

The Department of Motor Vehicles conducts an official mandatory periodic vehicle inspection program for all motor vehicles registered in New York. Every vehicle must be inspected at an officially designated inspection station and bear a valid certificate of inspection before original, transfer, or renewal of a registration. [Pg.699]

There is an exception to Utah s mandatory inspection requirement. It does not apply to a commercial motor vehicle that has a gross vehicle weight rating over 26,000 pounds and any attached trailer, semitrailer, or trailing equipment that is operating with an apportioned registration and has a valid annual inspection that complies with the periodic inspection requirements in 396.17 of the FMCSRs. [Pg.711]

All motor vehicles, trailers, and semitrailers registered in Virginia must be submitted to inspection at an official inspection station at the time of first registration and subsequently once each year. Inspections are conducted at officially designated inspection stations, and upon approval an inspection sticker is affixed to the vehicle. [Pg.712]

Company Operation — The company operation type will tell FMCSA what type(s) of Motor Carrier or Hazardous Materials Shipper operations the company plans to provide. If you select Vehicle Registrant Only you may not select any other carrier or shipper operation. If you select only Hazmat Shipper (no carrier operation) from the list, the company is not required to obtain a USDOT Number, so no filing is needed. Read the instructions and definitions below before responding. These selections will determine if this business is regulated by the FMCSA. [Pg.43]

Motor carriers in certain states may be exempt from the new biennial filing requirement. In some states that participate in the Performance and Registration Information Systems Management (PRISM) program, carriers are already required to report similar information as part of the annual vehicle registration requirement. Carriers who file this information with the state s commercial motor vehicle office do not have to update their MCS-150 forms. [Pg.62]

The inspector also needs to accurately identify the motor carrier. This is critical so that the inspection results get attributed to the correct carrier. The inspector needs to do more than go by the company name that is on the door or on a single docmnent. Other docmnents need to be considered to verify the company name, including vehicle registration, lease agreement, or shipping papers. [Pg.97]

The International Registration Plan is an agreement that provides for the apportioned registration of commercial motor vehicles, allowing a qualifying commercial vehicle to travel through several states with one license plate, provided the apportioned registration fees have been paid for each state of travel shown on the cab card. [Pg.457]

Performance and Registration Information Systems Management (PRISM) means a cooperative federal/state program to link motor carrier safety and vehicle registration. [Pg.480]

OH Cperating a motor vehicle in violation of UCR registration requirements - 500 per occurrence any entity that fails to register and pay fees as required - 1,000 any entity that provides false, or misleading information on application - 5,000. [Pg.481]

On October 13, 2012, the FMCSA inactivated all registrant-only USDOT numbers. Registrant-only numbers were introduced in 1999 for entities that owned commercial motor vehicles but did not operate them as motor carriers, generally leasing/rental companies and owner-operators leasing to an authorized carrier. Because they were not motor carriers, they did not have a USDOT number. This became a problem with the implementation of PRISM, a program that connected DOT safety performance with vehicle licensing. [Pg.489]

The Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Process (MCSIP) is the means by which a motor carrier s safety is systematically tracked and improved. The process is designed to improve the safety performance of motor carriers with demonstrated poor safety performance. Once the carrier exceeds the bounds of the established safety threshold, the motor carrier enters MCSIP, which provides opportunities for carriers to improve operations and return to a safe condition. MCSIP carriers that do not improve their safety performance face progressively more stringent penalties that may residt in a federal unfit or imminent hazard determination and the possible suspension of vehicle registrations by the state. [Pg.490]
