More recently Webb et al. (1952) reported no isopropyl alcohol in a wine fusel oil sample. They did find 4.1% n-propyl, 1.9% n-butyl, 4.9% ( — )-sec-butyl, 18.3% isobutyl, 9.6% ( —)-2-methyl-l-butanol, 54% isoamyl, trace of n-amyl, 1.5% n-hexyl, 5.6% esters, and traces of acetic and butyric acids and acetal. The esters included 0.19% ethyl caproate, 0.60% ethyl caprylate, 0.52% isoamyl caprylate, 1.32% ethyl caprate, 0.38% isobutyl caprate, 0.58% ethyl laurate, 0.25% ethyl palmitate, a trace of butyrate ester, 0.06% myristate ester. Probably present were methyl salicylate, isoamyl caprate, active amyl caproate, isoamyl caproate, active amyl caprylate, isobutyl caprylate, active amyl caprate, active amyl laurate, and isoamyl laurate. [Pg.369]

Yields of the primary alkyl acrylates vary somewhat, owing to occasional losses through formation of polymer, but are usually in the range of 85-99%. Some secondary alcohols react very slowly, others readily. The method has been applied to more than fifty alcohols, some of which (with percentage yields) are listed below ethyl, 99% isopropyl, 37% -amyl, 87% isoamyl, 95% -hexyl, 99% 4-methyl-2-pentyl, 95% 2-ethylhexyl, 95% capryl, 80% lauryl, 92% myristyl, 90% allyl, 70% fur-furyl, 86% citronellyl, 91% cyclohexyl, 93% benzyl, 81% (3-ethoxyethyl, 99% /S-(/3-phenoxyethoxy) ethyl (from diethylene glycol monophenyl ether), 88%. [Pg.20]

For dandelion, a trace fluorescent band in the GA3 Rf range in the chromatograms derived from both the amyl and capryl systems was noted, but the biogrowth response was not large enough to be unmistakably positive. For sweet com kernels, a suitable band with biogrowth confirmation was noted only in the capryl-amyl combination for Lima bean, only in the amyl-amyl combination. [Pg.34]

Caprio add — Decyltc acid—C.H CO.OH—172—exists in butter, ooooa-oil, etc., associated with caproic and caprylic acids in their glyceric ethers, and in the residues of distillation of Scotch whiskey, as amyl capratk It ts a white, crystalline solid melts at 27 .5 (81 .5 F.) boUa at 273 (523 .4 F.). [Pg.156]

Afore Artificial Ethyl Oenanthate, also known as artificial cognac essence or oil of wine, is a mixture of amyl and ethyl caprates with ethyl and isoamyJ butyrates and caprylates. [Pg.603]

Swem and Jordan [60] prepared the allyl esters of caproic, caprylic, pelargonic, capric, lauric, myristic, palmitic, and stearic acids. Attempts to bulk polymerize the compounds with 0.5% of dibenzoyl peroxide resulted in only a slight lowering of the monomers iodine numbers, indicating very limited polymer formation. Copolymers with diallyl o-phthalate seemed to form with 1-20% of allyl esters. These copolymers were insoluble in acetone, amyl acetate, benzene, and acetic acid. [Pg.301]

The volatile compounds quantified were acetaldehyde, ethyl acetate, methanol, 1-propanol, isobutanol, amyl alcohols, isobutanol, ethyl valerate, ethyl lactate, ethyl caprylate, ethyl caproate, 2-furfuraldehyde and 2-phenyl ethanol (figure 3). Two yeasts isolated from fermentation stage in the mezcal processes were used to evaluate the volatile production in different agave juice species (table 5 and table 6). Both yeasts are Kluyoeromyces marxianus and the volatile compoxmds were produced at different levels, those results show the importance to select the yeast used in the process. [Pg.83]
