Barium, Peroxide

In the laboratory, hydrogen peroxide can be prepared in dilute aqueous solution by adding barium peroxide to ice-cold dilute sulphuric acid ... [Pg.277]

Inorganic Methods. Before the development of electrolytic processes, hydrogen peroxide was manufactured solely from metal peroxides. Eady methods based on barium peroxide, obtained by air-roasting barium oxide, used dilute sulfuric or phosphoric acid to form hydrogen peroxide in 3—8% concentration and the corresponding insoluble barium salt. Mote recent patents propose acidification with carbon dioxide and calcination of the by-product barium carbonate to the oxide for recycle. [Pg.478]

Carbon, present in iron or remaining after inadequate degreasing, can form CO or CO2. Carbon particles may occur in the chlorate if graphite anodes were used in the production process. Additionally, barium peroxide contains carbonate as a contaminant. [Pg.485]

Barium Peroxide. Barium peroxide [1304-29-6] Ba02, was an important compound ia the late nineteenth and eady twentieth centuries... [Pg.91]

Barium peroxide is a strong oxidizer and can cause fire when in contact with combustible materials. It is a powerful irritant to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes (2). Consequendy, it is also toxic via the subcutaneous route protective clothing should be worn during handling. The LD q value (mouse, oral) is 50 mg/kg (2). [Pg.92]

Ferrovanadium can also be prepared by the thermite reaction, in which vanadium and iron oxides are co-reduced by aluminum granules in a magnesite-lined steel vessel or in a water-cooled copper cmcible (11) (see Aluminumand aluminum alloys). The reaction is initiated by a barium peroxide—aluminum ignition charge. This method is also used to prepare vanadium—aluminum master alloys for the titanium industry. [Pg.383]

Chromium oxide is mixed with aluminum powder, placed in a refractory-lined vessel, and ignited with barium peroxide and magnesium powder. The reaction is exothermic and self-sustaining. Chromium metal of 97—99% purity is obtained, the chief impurities being aluminum, iron, and silicon (Table 4). Commercial chromium metal may also be produced from the oxide by reduction with silicon in an electric-arc furnace. [Pg.116]

Hydrogen peroxide was first made in 1818 by J. L. Thenard who acidified barium peroxide (p. 121) and then removed excess H2O by evaporation under reduced pressure. Later the compound was prepared by hydrolysis of peroxodisulfates obtained by electrolytic oxidation of acidified sulfate solutions at high current densities ... [Pg.633]

A sample crf20.00g of barium reacts with oxygen to form 2238 g of a mixture of barium oxide and barium peroxide. Determine the composition of the mixture. [Pg.553]
