Work methods issues

The process for implementation and prospective validation of computer systems outlined in Figure 3 depicts the system application activities within each life-cycle phase and identifies key issues and considerations for each step. The process includes for evaluation of both the computer system product and the system supplier s working methods. The same life-cycle approach may be applied to validate the associated control and monitoring instrumentation [9]. 

The following subsections will focus on the environmental assessment along the life cycle of products. Some aspects of cost aspects and social sustainability will briefly be addressed as well. Especially regarding social aspects, several approaches have aheady been presented by different research groups. However, methods are still under development. It can be expected that reliable life cycle decision support in social working environment issues will be available and practice-proven from about 2010 or 2011 onwards. 

Abstract Local and short haul (L/SH) drivers work in various other work environments in addition to that of the truck cab, and the safety of these environments vary widely. In this study, we combined methods from three time perspectives accident statistics analyses (past) video observations (present) and scenario workshops (future) in order to provide new knowledge that can be applied to design and management process development in the transportation industry. Even though new technologies have and will emerge to ease drivers work, the work that is performed in environments other than truck cabs still involves tasks that require physical activities and pose risks of occupational diseases and accidents. Thus, drivers safety at work and work ability issues remain an area that needs continuous, systemic development. The results inevitably show that in order to successfully improve L/SH drivers work, the relevant stakeholders participation and a systemic approach is crucial. 

Communications should be clear and in terms that can be understood by the recipient so that decisions can be clearly conveyed, confusion is prevented and any procedures properly followed. This is particularly apposite where safety issues arise and the health and safety of employees is reliant on following specific work methods. 

Discussions in the Professional Safety article (Manuele, 2011) addressed issues such as moving the preventive efforts from a focus on the employee to improving the work system the design of the work system and the work methods the complexity of causation and human errors occurring at organizational levels above the worker. 

With regard to future work, several issues should be studied, among them are, the development of ways to combine the inverse and direct optimality methods, the design of control structures with compatible passivity and detectability structures, the development of measures of stability, passivity, and detectability, the consideration of other control schemes like model predictive control, and the design of dedicated observers for control or monitoring purposes. 

OSHA issued the Compliance Guidance for Residential Constmction in December 2010 to require that residential construction employers provide workers with fall protection according to OSHA s Fall Protection in Construction standard. This new document demonstrates work methods employers may use to comply with the standard s requirements. 

In addition, physical and environmental issues as well as the availability of the anticipated dredging plant may have a significant impact on the work method adopted. For instance ... 

Planning in accordance with the Policy in order to reduce risks by means of risk assessment, planned safety systems of work, method statements and training, is carried out at pre-tender and contract phases. Four weekly safety meetings allow Health Safety issues to be fully considered outside of commercial constraints. 

This latter modified midpoint method does work well, however, for the long time integration of Hamiltonian systems which are not highly oscillatory. Note that conservation of any other first integral can be enforced in a similar manner. To our knowledge, this method has not been considered in the literature before in the context of Hamiltonian systems, although it is standard among methods for incompressible Navier-Stokes (where its time-reversibility is not an issue, however). 

Pubhc concerns about pesticides in the diet of infants and children resulted in an expert committee convened by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences which devoted four years to the review of all available data. A consensus report was issued in 1993 (80). A number of recommendations for further work to more precisely define what constitutes the diet of infants and children were made. No risk could be estimated. The residue data reviewed by the panel were mainly from monitoring studies conducted by the PDA using multiresidue methods to analyze fresh produce and market basket samples collected from various geographic areas (81,82). These and other rehable scientific studies have demonstrated that relatively few food samples contain detectable residues. Most residues are far below estabhshed tolerances which are set above the maximum residue found in treated raw agricultural... 

The second aspect of quahty documentation is to detail how the work processes referred to in the manual are performed. The QA unit is often the organization responsible for issuing a set of procedures designed to assure conformance to the appropriate standards or to company poHcy. The procedures, often called standard operation procedures (SOP) or quahty operating procedures (QOP), should include such topics as customer complaints, audit protocols, stabihty testing, preparation of COAs, test method vahdation, etc.

One more variation to the many methods proposed for sulfur extraction is the fire-flood method. It is a modem version of the Sickian method, by which a portion of the sulfur is burned to melt the remainder. It would be done in situ and is said to offer cost advantages, to work in almost any type of zone formation, and to produce better sweep efficiency than other systems. The recovery stream would be about 20 wt % sulfur as SO2 and 80 wt % elemental sulfur. The method was laboratory-tested in the late 1960s and patents were issued. However, it was not commercially exploited because sulfur prices dropped.
