The third-level safety committee will be the engineering department s weekly safety meeting, chaired by the site manager or, in his absence, his deputy. 

To address this issue, many safety professionals — across all industries — rely on a weekly safety meeting with key operations, recruiting, and training personnel to keep on top of issues affecting the organization s overall safety performance. 

Use your weekly safety meeting to discuss drivers who might be on the bubble, and develop a plan to retain them. A big part of being a good safety manager is sta5dng in tune with daily operations. It s your job to identify trends and patterns of risk. You can accomplish this by conducting quality weekly safety meetings. These are great tools to help you stay focused on your mission, and in touch with every department. 

Keep a record of each meeting (see above sample report). This is a critically important part of conducting weekly safety meetings. Your job is not done until you document the meting. This record could be critical in the fiiture. 

A typical weekly safety meeting could last about SOnainutes or until all of the safety-related discussions have been addressed and completed. Due to the nature of the meeting, it may require more time to discuss safety-related topics, new issues, injuries in other areas, facilities with similar exposures, or other changes in the organization. Other concerns can be put on the table such as squelching mmors about injuries that have occurred, status of hazard correction, etc. 

Based on the weekly safety meeting, you may identify problems or issues. The leadership team must prioritize each issue and develop an action plan. The action plan will outline the specific actions that will be taken, the person(s) responsible, and the completion date.

To get the maximum benefit from the observation process, you must ensure that the organization makes use of the data. In other words, the data must be reviewed and employees must respond to it. The best way to ensure that people look at the observation data is to build a review of the data into existing meetings.
