Work processes

All engineering activities follow a predefined overall project work process. The development of a SIS has its own process. Individual steps are mapped into the overall process. Functional safety assessment is carried out at the appropriate stages. [Pg.75]

Developing a SIS application requires the following typical steps. In the following we will only discuss step 3, 4 and those parts of step 5 which are related to the system architecture. [Pg.76]

In order to achieve the goals of making more efficient use of the information that is produced and of planning and performing better experiments, chemoinformatics will have to be more integrated into the daily work processes of the chemist, and into the work of the bench chemist. Certainly, many chemists still have to overcome high barriers to using the computer for assistance in the solution of their daily scientific problems. [Pg.623]

Dead Sea Works Process. The Dead Sea Works, a subsidiary of Israel Chemicals Ltd., aimounced plans ia 1992 to constmct a 25,000 t/yr magnesium plant at Beer-Sheva, Israel. The plant, to be based on Russian camaHite technology, is designed to use an existing potash plant as the source of camaHte. The chlorine by-product can be either Hquefted and sold, or used ia an existing bromine plant. Waste streams from the camaHite process, as well as spent electrolyte from the electrolytic cells, can be returned to the potash plant. [Pg.319]

Fractional crystallisation is based on favorable solubiUty relationships. Potassium chloride is much more soluble at elevated temperatures than at ambient temperatures in solutions that are saturated with sodium and potassium chlorides. Sodium chloride is slightly less soluble at elevated temperatures than at ambient temperatures in solutions that are saturated with KCl and NaCl. Working process temperatures are usually 30—110°C. The system,... [Pg.529]

The second aspect of quahty documentation is to detail how the work processes referred to in the manual are performed. The QA unit is often the organization responsible for issuing a set of procedures designed to assure conformance to the appropriate standards or to company poHcy. The procedures, often called standard operation procedures (SOP) or quahty operating procedures (QOP), should include such topics as customer complaints, audit protocols, stabihty testing, preparation of COAs, test method vahdation, etc. [Pg.369]

WeU-written procedures should begin with a purpose and scope. The procedure section usually follows, describing the work process, and it should be clearly and concisely written. The document should include copies of all forms and a process flow diagram for illustration. [Pg.369]

Best Pra.ctices, Technology leaders must provide the direction for improving work processes as well as the work itself. They should seek the best known ways to carry out R D best practices. There is considerable advice available on best R D practices. [Pg.128]

Are R D practices linked to business practices Are work processes those needed to implement the plans Are work processes defined, disciplined, and structured Is the human side of work practices understood Are there metrics related to the goals/results of the work processes ... [Pg.131]

In using such assessments, the technology manager needs to answer two important questions (/) How do I improve our work processes (2) What processes or practices should have the highest priority for improvement ... [Pg.133]

In other efforts, over 100 firms in the United States and Europe have adopted a specific stmctured work process for product/process development, called product/process and cycle time excellence (PACE). In effect, PACE makes new product and new chemical process development a business-driven. [Pg.133]

The dyes or dye precursors may be initially diffusible in alkaU, in which case they will be immobilized imagewise, or they may be initially immobile in alkaU and released imagewise to transfer. Positive-working processes produce dye transfer density inversely related to the developed silver density conversely, negative-working processes produce dye transfer density in direct proportion to the developed silver. [Pg.487]

In practice there are two major classifications of cost accounting systems, job costing and process costing. In the former, costs are col-lec ted for each job or batch irrespective of the accounting period. This system is normally used in construction work. Process costing is normally used in continuous and semicontinuous processes. Costs are collected for a specific accounting period. [Pg.846]

Determination of Na " and Na" ions in raw cosmetic materials was conducted with the developed method of flame photometry. A necessity of development of method of samples preparation arose up in the work process, as this spicily-aromatic raw material contained pectin in amount 0.1-0.5% and that prevented preparation of samples by standard method of extracts dilution and required incineration of analyzed sample, time of analysis was increased in 60 times. It was established that CaCl, solution with the concentration 0,4 % caused destmctions of the carbopol gel. It was established that the addition of 0,1% CaCl, and 0,1% NaCl salts solutions into the system intensified the effect of negative action of these salts onto the gel stmcture and the gel destmcted completely. [Pg.375]

This is an extremely important aspect of the whole exercise. The basic purpose of all checks and controls is to reduce reworking, reprocessing, failures or rejections during the work process with a view to produce a product of the required quality and hence minimize cost for better financial returns. A high-cost input not commensurate with the type of the product may defeat the basic puipose of adopting such a system. [Pg.249]

Similar treatments can be used for all sorts of two-dimensional problems for calculating the plastic collapse load of structures of complex shape, and for analysing metal-working processes like forging, rolling and sheet drawing. [Pg.114]

Against this backdrop, the quest for more efficient processes, more reliable equipment, downtime avoidance, and maintenance cost reductions is understandable. How are these pursuits structured Better yet, how should they be structured The answer is the real best-of-class, high profitability performers who are hard at work changing old ways of thinking. They are willing to reassess work processes and work procedures. Best-of-class companies also revisit the basics while, understandably, engaging in the search for new and advanced technologies. [Pg.521]

The role of quality in reliability would seem obvious, and yet at times has been rather elusive. While it seems intuitively correct, it is difficult to measure. Since much of the equipment discussed in this book is built as a custom engineered product, the classic statistical methods do not readily apply. Even for the smaller, more standardized rotary units discussed in Chapter 4, the production runs are not high, keeping the sample size too small for a classical statistical analysis. Run adjustments are difficult if the run is complete before the data can be analyzed. However, modified methods have been developed that do provide useful statistical information. These data can be used to determine a machine tool s capability, which must be known for proper machine selection to match the required precision of a part. The information can also be used to test for continuous improvement in the work process. [Pg.488]

Whilst the causative agent(s) have not been established it is thought to be multifunctional and possibilities include physical factors (humidity, temperature, lighting), static electricity, electromagnetic radiation, air ion concentrations, fungi, noise, psychological stress, and chemicals. Chemicals which are not those involved in the normal work processes can become trapped within the building, albeit at concentrations below those known to cause ill-health effects, if ... [Pg.142]

You should be careful not to omit any steps. Care should be taken not to make the job hazards too detailed. Too much detail will make a JHA ineffective. Make sure that only safety steps are recorded. One of the common mistakes is to mix work elements with job hazards. A JHA is not intended to document work process instructions, although some people believe that they should be included. [Pg.47]

The next step is the determination of workplace factors that have to be considered in estimating the potential for exposure to chemical agents. This includes all points related to work processes and procedures which may be relevant to exposure, such as... [Pg.369]

In the technological approach, qualitative and quantitative inforraatioii on emissions released by various production and work processes, as well as data on control technology performance, are required in order to specify the air quality target levels that are technically and economically feasible. The approach is based on information on current concentration levels that are achieved by different control technologies, ranging from standard practices to the most advanced technology options (Fig. 6.7). [Pg.399]

These phenomena can be considered as work processes. In fact, pressure is the force per surface unit, and work is the product of force and displace ment of the force. Work is equivalent to energy, and it cannot be created or destroyed. [Pg.791]

Booths are partially enclosed workplaces with one or more open facefs) for access by workers. These openings at one or more sides of the enclosure function not only to capture air contaminants directly through their short-distance capture capability but also to cause an airflow in a certain direction (normally away from the worker/work process and into the enclosure). The capture efficiency could be increased by using an existing main flow direction (e.g., thermal flows caused by heat sources) to support the capture process. [Pg.881]

Working procedures Set requirements on how an industrial work process is carried out. [Pg.1489]

The typical focus for a quality system is at the operations level. ISO 9000 is seen as an initiative for work process improvement. The documentation is often developed at the work process level and focused on functions. Much of the effort is focused on the processes within the functions rather than across the functions and only involves the business level at the customer interface, as illustrated in Table 2-1. [Pg.28]
