Test facilities

After having proved the principles a dynamic test facility has been constructed. In this facility it is possible to inject 3 tracers in a flownng liquid consisting of air, oil and water. By changing the relative amounts of the different components it is possible to explore the phase diagram and asses the limits for the measurement principle. Experiments have confirmed the accuracy in parameter estimation to be below 10%, which is considered quite satisfactorily for practical applications. The method will be tested on site at an offshore installation this summer. [Pg.1057]

Both the quantity of air and the developed static pressure of fans in air-cooled heat exchangers are lower than indicated by fan manufacturers test data, which are applicable to testing-facility tolerances and not to heat-exchanger constructions. [Pg.1079]

When maldug any economic analysis, care should be taken to be certain that the efficiency ratings of all motors being considered are on the same basis. While this should not be a problem for motors rated 1 to 500 horsepower as covered by the NEMA Standards for efficiency marldug, it is common practice for several different test methods to be used when measuring the efficiency of motors rated over 500 horsepower. A particular test method may need to be selected by the test facility on the basis of available test equipment and power supply. All test methods that may be used to test any one motor will not necessarily give the same result for efficiency. [Pg.2483]

These test results are then compared with similar test data obtained from the manufacturer on similar windings carried out during manufacture. If the manufacturer s original test results are available, the results obtained at site can be quickly compared and the condition of the insulation assessed easily and accurately. If the test facility to obtain test results at 1 minute and 10 minutes is not available, the results may also be obtained for 15 seconds and 60 seconds and a graph plotted as shown in Figure 9.5(a) to determine the polarization index. [Pg.225]

Now that it is possible to establish test facilities in a laboratory to simulate the time history of an earthquake seismic tests are conducted by creating the ground movements in the test object. Other methods, such as by analysis or by combined analysis and testing, are also available. Refer to IEEE 344 and lEC 60980 for more details. For this purpose a shake table, able to simulate the required seismic conditions (RRS) is developed on which the test object is mounted and its performance observed under the required shock conditions. Since it is not easy to create such conditions in a laboratory, there are only a few of these facilities available. The better equipped laboratories are in Japan, the USA, the UK, Greece, Germany, India and China. In India the Earthquake Engineering Department (EQD) of the University of Roorkee (UoR) is equipped with these facilities. [Pg.448]

The injection of coolant air in the turbine rotor or stator causes a slight decrease in turbine efficiency however, the higher turbine inlet temperature usually makes up for the loss of the turbine component efficiency, giving an overall increase in cycle efficiency. Tests by NASA on three different types of cooled stator blades were conducted on a specially built 30-inch turbine cold-air test facility. The outer shell profile of all three blade types was the same, as seen in Figure 9-24. [Pg.362]

Sliop test facilities should include instrumentation with the capability of continuously monitoring and plotting rpm, peak-to-peak displacement, and phase angle (X-Y-Y ). Presentation of vibration displacement and phase marker by use of an oscilloscope makes visualization easier. [Pg.410]

Availability of facilities and expertise Are test facilities, instrumentation, and data-acquisition systems available. Are simulation tools, hardware, and specialized staff for numerical simulation available. The decision depends on the answers to these questions. [Pg.1027]

The standard requires the supplier to safeguard inspection, measuring, and test facilities including both test hardware and test software from adjustments which would invalidate the calibration setting. [Pg.420]

Unlike the other requirements, which only referred to inspection, test, and measuring equipment, this clause adds test facilities. Facilities include the equipment and the area or room in which it is kept or used. Test facilities are any room, area, or complex in which tests are carried out. Inspection, measuring, and test facilities include functional and environmental test laboratories, test and inspection chambers, calibration rooms. [Pg.420]

To determine the appropriate injection rate, a field test should first be performed at one of the industry-sponsored full-scale loop test facilities. The optimum mixture, its injection rate, and location of injcciioii points will be a function of flow geometry, fluid properties, pressure leinpcrature relationships, etc., that will be encountered in the actual field application. The appropriate injection rate and location of injection jii iiiis can be determined from this test by observing pressure increases, which indicate that hydrate plugs are forming. [Pg.108]

UL will nsnally mn the tests at their own test facilities in accordance with UL 525. Wlien a flame arrester snccessfully passes the tests it is given a Listing mark and is so pnblished in their Gas and Oil Eqnipment cata-logne. UL will also witness tests at other test facilities, if a flame arrester mannfactnrer so wishes, nnder the UL Witnessed Test Data Program. If the tests are condncted in accordance with UL 525, then the flame arrester is listed similarly as if the tests had been done at UL s laboratory. If a witnessed test is done at another laboratory in accordance with another test protocol (not UL 525), then the flame arrester is designated as Classified. All flame arresters that have a UL Listing or Classified mark may be fonnd on their web site www.nl.com... [Pg.191]

FM will condnct tests at their own test facilities nsnally only for deflagration flame arresters, following their Class 6061 test procednre. They will also observe and approve tests done at a hame arrester mannfactnrer s own test facility for both dehagration and detonation type hame arresters. For detonation hame arresters FM will accept tests that are done in accor-... [Pg.191]

Information on ship resistance has been determined from large numbers of tests on scale models of ships and from full-size ships, and compilations of these experimental results have been published. For a new and innovative hull form the usual procedure is to construct a scale model of the ship and then to conduct resistance tests m a special test facility (towing tank). Alternatively, analytical methods can provide estimates of ship resistance for a range of different hull shapes. Computer programs have been written based on these theoretical analyses and have been used with success for many ship designs, including racing sailboats. [Pg.1043]

As to the dollar-value of the Arsenal, its facilities are valued at over 500,000,000. The nature of these facilities varies, from the conventional to the nuclear. Conventional ammunition production lines, control laboratories and inspection systems are maintained in stand-by and are occasionally used in experimental or pilot-lot production. Nuclear weapons ammunition, components and devices are developed and produced in the. necessarily special research laboratories, proof-testing facilities and production and pilot assembly lines... [Pg.744]
