Furthermore, the TRAPPIST format is used in several ongoing projects sponsored by the European Community this is the case of two BRITE projects MISTRAL, on NDT data... [Pg.927]

A technique called probabiUstic safety assessment (PSA) has been developed to analy2e complex systems and to aid in assuring safe nuclear power plant operation. PSA, which had its origin in a project sponsored by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, is a formali2ed identification of potential events and consequences lea ding to an estimate of risk of accident. Discovery of weaknesses in the plant allows for corrective action. [Pg.181]

Throughout the year the Welding Research Council publishes bulletins which are final reports from projects sponsored by the council, important papers presented before engineering societies, and other reports of current interest which are not published in Welding Research. A large number of the published bulletins are pertinent for vessel designers. [Pg.1029]

The best scientific study comparing the LWD logs with the wireline logs has been done in the framework of a project sponsored by the oil and service companies in Conoco test facility, Kay County, Oklahoma in 1990. [Pg.1077]

HarsNet is a thematic network project sponsored by the European Commission s Industrial and Materials Technologies Program. It is coordinated through the Instituto Quimico de Sarria, with participation by government organizations, universities, major companies (e.g., Dow, BASF, and CIBA), and private testing services. [Pg.396]

The work reported here was conducted as part of a project, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, on preparation of a Coal Conversion Systems Technical Data Book. [Pg.132]

Hawaiian chain. From April 1979 to May of 1981 all kahala passing through the commercial wholesale market were subjected to a radioimmunoassay (RIA) for the detection of ciguatoxin, in a project sponsored by the state of Hawaii, the National Marine Fisheries Service and researchers at the University of Hawaii. Fifteen percent were rejected due to toxicity (40% of those over 18 kg.). [Pg.294]

Much of the discussion in this chapter is from the point of view of a consultant (chemometrician) working with a project sponsor. However, the concepts discussed here can also be applied if the chemometrician is an independent researcher. As a consultant, the chemometrician aids in defining the problem, planning and executing experiments, and analyzing the data. [Pg.188]

The Western Arctic Shelf-Basin Interactions (SBI) project, sponsored by the ARCSS Program and the U.S. Office of Naval Research, is investigating the Arctic marine ecosystem to improve our capacity to predict environmental change. The SBI Phase II Field Implementation Plan (2002-2006) (Grebmeier et al., 2001) focuses on three research topics in the core study area ... [Pg.351]

Abstract Traceability of measurements still often remains a non-oper-ational notion for end-user chemists. A practical project, sponsored by the French Ministry of Research, has been conducted to evaluate and to demonstrate possible benefits of the implementation of a metrological structure for improvement of the quality of water analyses. LNE (Laboratoire National d Essais) was in charge of the build up of the trace-ability chain in a concrete case of determination of some heavy metals (cadmium and lead) in a groundwater. Pure solutions for calibration and... [Pg.245]

Science drives decisions and shareholder value drives time lines. These issues generally have harmonious outcomes. Sometimes the time line becomes the main focus. This can cause stress and confusion and create artificial time constraints on a project. Sponsors can then transfer this new time line to the vendor. Vendors that hurry to meet a deadline and are subsequently asked to delay delivery of the final product (and thus wait to get paid) are unlikely to hurry and be as cooperative the next time. Sponsors need to know what is negotiable at the vendor site and what is not. An accelerated stability protocol that is scheduled to be under test conditions for 12 weeks simply cannot be completed in less time. If the sponsor is truly in need of an expedited event, it behooves the sponsor to have established a history of integrity with the vendor in order to enlist the vendor s full cooperation and understanding then the vendor knows it truly is a real deadline and will generally do anything within reason and regulation to help the sponsor. [Pg.362]

Another way to leverage the scarce research and development funds is to hire a catalyst-consulting group. Several catalyst-consulting companies exist to work on a confidential basis on projects sponsored by clients with an interest in business development, market strategy analysis, technological benchmarking, and new product and process innovation. [Pg.99]

Illinois 6 bituminous coal and Wyoming subbituminous coal were specified initially as project coals and DOE, Carter Oil, EPRI and JCLD chose additional coals for evaluation. Operations of the 250 T/D liquefaction pilot plant are to include processing three coals Illinois 6, a subbituminous coal, and a third coal to be selected by the project sponsors. [Pg.81]

This philosophy was incorporated into the participation agreements between ER E and project sponsors. Potential process improvements are being brought into the project from Exxon s privately funded research, and are also being identified within the project. In addition, sponsors are suggesting improvements based on non-confidential information. Currently active process improvements are directed toward improving product yields, process operability and process efficiency. [Pg.91]

Despite the relatively short history of LES fire modeling, the accuracy of LES technique in fire simulation has been studied extensively. Early validation of FDS predecessors was performed by comparing simulations against salt water experiments [21-23], fire plumes [24,25], and room fires [26], More recently, the FDS model has been validated for fire plumes [27] and fires in enclosures in the context of the World Trade Center investigation [28,29] and the fire model validation project sponsored by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission [30], Some of the above cases and numerous others have been collected to the Validation guide of FDS [4, Vol 3] (not yet published as a separate document). [Pg.555]

If this is a project sponsored by a for-profit company, the polymer chemist will need a synthetic procedure that is practical, safe, and environmentally benign, that can be scaled up for manufacturing, and that is inexpensive enough so the company can make a profit. It should come as no surprise that as the electronics industry continues to produce smaller and more sophisticated devices, the demand for new ideas and new materials remains extremely high. For one, a plastic semiconductor stable in air (Anon. CEN 2002) or a polymeric transistor (Dagani 2001) that could replace silicon would eliminate the need for complicated and relatively expensive silicon fabrication technology. [Pg.76]

Regulators consider the VMP to be the first fundamental commitment of the pharmaceutical organization to the validation process. In particular, the VMP must recognize that different approaches may be required to meet the differing capabilities of the various suppliers contributing to the EMS architecture. The VMP must be reviewed and approved by the project sponsor, GxP process owners, and quality assurance representative. Table 31.4 lists the typical contents of the VMP. [Pg.711]
