Centralized Reliability Data Organization Input Guide Nuclear 1800 Component failure events causing abnormal operation engineering data for 20,000 components found in liquid metal reactors (e.g., LMRs). Gives generic data lor 45 equipment items (valves, pumps, etc.) Liquid metal reactor sites and test facility systems and components 62. [Pg.60]

The Centralized Reliability Data Organization (CREDO) is maintained at ORNL to provide a central computer-based source of accurate, timely data and information for use in reliability, availability and maintainability analyses of liquid metal reactors (LMRs). CREDO is a component-based system, that addresses a comprehensive list of 45 genetic components that are representative of all components found at LMRs. [Pg.62]

The Atomic Energy Act of 1946 represented the interests of American scientists who wished to see nuclear energy developed for nonniilitai y purposes. It called for the establishment of a five-member civilian Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), which could deliver weapons to the military only on presidential order. But the militaiy tensions ot the early Cold War delayed civilian nuclear power development until 1948, at which time 80 percent of the AEC s budget went to militaiy ends. In 1951, U.S. civilian nuclear power development consisted of only a small experimental government (liquid metal) reactor in Idaho. [Pg.853]

METHODS FOR ANALYTICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL JUSTIFICATION OF NUCLEAR AND RADIATION SAFETY DURING UNLOADING AND STORAGE OF SPENT REMOVABLE PARTS FROM NUCLEAR SUBMARINE LIQUID METAL REACTORS... [Pg.209]

The analytical and experimental methods applicable for justification of neutronic characteristics of spent removable parts (SRP) of nuclear submarine liquid metal reactors (NS LMR) are briefly reviewed. [Pg.209]

A third possibility is that fluid fuel reactors, such as the ORNL aqueous reactor, or the BNL liquid metal reactor, will supply some fraction of our future nuclear economy. These reactors are usually designed as completely self-contained systems including continuous reprocessing of fuel. [Pg.84]

This duty cycle creates challenges that have been met by designers of liquid metal reactors that operate at high temperatures, such as the Fast Flux Test Facility and the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant. However, this was done at great cost for the analyses, extremely high manufacturing costs, and has created a disconnect between design transients and the real world. [Pg.232]

This paper describes a new nuclear power system which can be used for a greater variety of applications. The 4S liquid metal reactor has high inherent safety and passive safety characteristics. It is also easy to operate, maintain and inspect, faster to construct, more flexible in location, requires less initial investment, and is better suited to electrical grid management. The reactor offers a new route through which to expand the use of safe nuclear technology in the world. [Pg.157]
