Conventional ammunition

As to the dollar-value of the Arsenal, its facilities are valued at over 500,000,000. The nature of these facilities varies, from the conventional to the nuclear. Conventional ammunition production lines, control laboratories and inspection systems are maintained in stand-by and are occasionally used in experimental or pilot-lot production. Nuclear weapons ammunition, components and devices are developed and produced in the. necessarily special research laboratories, proof-testing facilities and production and pilot assembly lines... [Pg.744]

In conventional ammunition lead, antimony, and barium are emitted when the ammunition is discharged. These three elements are undesirable from a health viewpoint and pose a major problem for firearms instructors in indoor firing ranges, as they are exposed to an unhealthy environment each working day. To solve this problem Dynamit Nobel AG developed a nontoxic primer composition called Sintox. Lead styphnate is replaced by 2-diazo-4,6-dinitrophenol (diazole) and the barium nitrate and antimony sulfide are replaced by a mixture of zinc peroxide and titanium metal powder. [Pg.55]

The Northern Ireland Forensic Science Taboratory (N1FST) was involved in the assessment of such ammunition for the police, and tests were conducted to compare lead levels using Nyclad and conventional ammunition. Unfortunately, the tests results did not survive the terrorist explosion at the laboratory in September 1992, but the overall conclusion was that the claims made relating to the reduction of lead were more than justified. (Other tests involving the examination of the perimeter of bullet holes in cloth that were caused by Nyclad bullets revealed that cobalt was repeatedly and readily detected by FAAS.)... [Pg.223]

Reloading ts no deep, dark secret, if you obey the rules it is much safer than running a lawn mower. I have reloaded tens of thousands of rounds of conventional ammunition.. It Is much cheaper and better than factory ammo. I have also designed and loaded thousands of rounds of special purpose ammunition. I have yet to have an accident ... [Pg.82]

A requirement for conventional ammunition still existed for fighting limited wars to defend the remnants of the Empire. In November, 1959, the Chiefs of Defence Staff Committee produced a memorandum for the Minister of Defence headed U.K. Forces Requirement for Limited War and the Strategic Reserve which stated that ... [Pg.237]

This information has been submitted to the Helsinki Commission [1]. Information on conventional ammunition, wrecks containing ammunition, dumping areas of chemical warfare agents as well as irritation cases by war gases along the Polish shoreline and within the Polish Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea are included in this report. [Pg.13]

It is of great interest to the public and to authorities to get more information on this matter. Therefore it might be worthy to undertake a pilot study on contamination of bottom sediments with war gas and about the condition of chemical munition containers as well as on the corrosion degree of conventional ammunition and wrecks containing munition. [Pg.15]

Vice President Dan Smith says ICC is the first U.S. manufacturer to dedicate its facility entirely to lead-free frangible ammunition Conventional ammunition has a significant hazard associated with close range fire, ricochet and over... [Pg.153]

Ordinary primers which are used in conventional ammunition to activate the ammunition s explosive charge or propellant, contain lead styphnate which is propelled into the air as a particulate. [Pg.158]

While the solutions of SFM, Booth and Belanger have eliminated lead in the projectile, their resulting projectiles have far less weight and mass than that of the conventional ammunition they are intended to mimic. This factor causes two significant problems. [Pg.159]

Second, the insufficient weight contributes to a projectile trajectory which is significantly different than conventional ammunition of similar caliber, making the practice ammunition an inadequate substitute for the live round. [Pg.160]
