Steel plating

The sensitivity curves are plots of maximum achieved sensitivity as a function of thickness of the object for a given focal spot size and source to detector distance. The best attainable sensitivity in image intensifier systems is a function of tube voltage, current, scattered radiation and the screen gamma. As a first step, stainless steel plates with thicknesses ranging from 5 mm-30 mm in steps of 5 mm were chosen. These plates had a length of 950 mm and width of 280 mm. The plate is positioned very close and at the center to the LI. tube. The extraneous... [Pg.444]

Fig. 5 dives an image of a steel plate weld 18 mm thick. The sensitivity is of the first accuracy class. Both gas pores, slag inclusions and a cut have been detected in this weld... [Pg.451]

Fig. 4 presents an A-scan of a 0,15 mm thick steel plate. The RF-A-.scan (sampled with 400 MHz) clearly separates the backwall echoes and demonstrates the high resolution of the HILL-SCAN 3010HF with a 50 MHz transducer. [Pg.859]

The acoustical device component is placed in water and is configured like a conventional impulse echo equipment. The ultrasound wave passed the delay path and enters the specimen container through a very thin plastic window. The backside of the container is a steel plate and will also be used as a reference reflector to measure pn. [Pg.867]

At first a calibration measurement is necessary. The container is filled with water and the amplitude of the reflected echo of the steel plate is measured. This value is measured at the end... [Pg.867]

Similar behaviour occurs when trying to locate voids in concrete cast behind steel plates, e g. the steel liner in nuclear containment walls. Our own experience has shown that in the case of a steel liner (encast at depth 250 mm) the reflected compression waves are dominant regardless of the condition of the concrete behind the plate. [Pg.1002]

The resistance due to a circular junction is given by / = /2ak, where a is the radius of the junction and k is specific conductivity of the metal. For the case of two steel plates, the measured resistance is 5 x 10" Q for a load of 50 kg the yield pressure of steel is 60 kg/mm, and the specific resistance is 5x 10 Q/cm. Calculate the number of junctions, assuming that it is their combined resistance that is giving the measured value. [Pg.458]

The cell head is fabricated from a 2.54-cm steel plate and has separate compartments for fluorine and hydrogen. The oudet-gas manifolds, hydrogen fluoride feed and purge lines, and electrical connections are on top of the head. The gas separation skirt is made of Monel. An insulating gasket maintains the seal between the tank and the head. The anode assembly consists of 32 carbon blades bolted onto a copper bar, each of which contains three copper conductor posts. The cathode assembly consists of three vertical, 0.6-cm parallel steep plates. The plates surround the anode assembly and are supported by three steel posts which also serve as conductors. [Pg.126]

The Fe, Co, and Ni deposits are extremely fine grained at high current density and pH. Electroless nickel, cobalt, and nickel—cobalt alloy plating from fluoroborate-containing baths yields a deposit of superior corrosion resistance, low stress, and excellent hardenabiUty (114). Lead is plated alone or ia combination with tin, iadium, and antimony (115). Sound iasulators are made as lead—plastic laminates by electrolyticaHy coating Pb from a fluoroborate bath to 0.5 mm on a copper-coated nylon or polypropylene film (116) (see Insulation, acoustic). Steel plates can be simultaneously electrocoated with lead and poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (117). Solder is plated ia solutioas containing Pb(Bp4)2 and Sn(Bp4)2 thus the lustrous solder-plated object is coated with a Pb—Sn alloy (118). [Pg.168]

The stainless steel plates are separated (ca 3 pm between) by nonabsorbent vulcanized gaskets. Various profiles and configurations, including raised knobs, crescents, channels, or diamonds, provide a rapid, uniform heat-transfer plate surface. During operation the plates must be pressed together to provide a seal, and mounted and coimected in such a manner that air is eliminated and that the product drains from the plates without opening. [Pg.357]

Laminates are pressed in steam-heated, multiple-opening presses. Each opening may contain a book of as many as ten laminates pressed against pohshed steel plates. Curing conditions are 20—30 min at about 150°C under a pressure of about 6900 kPa (1000 psi). [Pg.326]

Top-Blown Basic Oxygen Process. The top-blown basic oxygen process is conducted ia a cylindrical furnace somewhat similar to a Bessemer converter. This furnace has a dished bottom without holes and a tmncated cone-shaped top section ia which the mouth of the vessel is located. The furnace shell is made of steel plates ca 50-mm thick it is lined with refractory 600—1200-mm thick (11). [Pg.376]

Parallel-Leaf Cartridge. A parallel-leaf cartridge consists of several flat plates, each having membrane sealed to both sides (Fig. 13). The plates have raised (2—3 mm) rails along the sides in such a way that, when they are stacked, the feed can flow between them. They are clamped between two stainless-steel plates with a central tie rod. Permeate from each leaf drains into an annular channel surrounding the tie rod (33). [Pg.301]

Decorative chromium plating, 0.2—0.5 ]lni deposit thickness, is widely used for automobile body parts, appHances, plumbing fixtures, and many other products. It is customarily appHed over a nonferrous base in the plating of steel plates. To obtain the necessary corrosion resistance, the nature of the undercoat and the porosity and stresses of the chromium are all carefliUy controlled. Thus microcracked, microporous, crack-free, or conventional chromium may be plated over duplex and triplex nickel undercoats. [Pg.143]

I Sometimes used for copper plate and for steel plate 12 gauge and heavier and for steel tubes. [Pg.41]

Shell Sizes Heat-exchanger shells are generally made from standard-wall steel pipe in sizes up to 305-mm (12-in) diameter from 9.5-mm (ys-in) wall pipe in sizes from 356 to 610 mm (14 to 24 in) and from steel plate rolled at discrete intervals in larger sizes. Clearances between the outer tube limit and the shell are discussed elsewhere in connection with the different types of construc tion. [Pg.1071]
