Norway comparisons

The range of consumer prices for water in the developed countries in 1990 ranged from about 9.90 in Norway to 45.28 in Greece, per 28.3 m, or 0.35—1.60/m. In comparison, 1993 water costs from large desalination plants were in the 1.50—2.00/m range (25).

In rat liver, 1,2-dimethylhydrazine had no consistent effect on the relative focal volume of y-glutamyltranspeptidase-positive preneoplastic foci (Denda et al., 1988). Locniskar et al. (1985) treated Brown-Norway and Fischer rats with 150 mg/kg bw 1,2-dimethylhydrazine by gavage five times over a three-week period. Five months after the final treatment, isolated splenic, colonic intraperithelial lymphocytes and lamina propria lymphocytes from the Brown-Norway strain exhibited low natural killer cell activity and reduced splenic T-lymphocyte proliferation in response to autologous non-T lymphocytes. Furthermore, colonic lamina propria lymphocyte proliferation was low, and Brown-Norway rats had a low incidence of 1,2-dimethylhydrazine-induced colonic neoplasms (7%) in comparison with Fischer rats, which had more effective splenic and colonic intraperithelial lymphocyte natural killer cell activity, enhanced splenic autologous mixed lymphocyte response, enhanced colonic lamina propria lymphocyte proliferation and a higher incidence of colon tumours (20%).

NCI00100 (Nycomed, Oslo, Norway) is composed of stabilized perfluorocarbon microbubbles. In a randomized comparison of technetium sestamibi single-photon emission-computed tomography (SPECT) and NClOOlOO in the assessment of myocardial perfusion in 203 patients with myocardial infarction, NClOOlOO was well tolerated, with no serious adverse events or deaths (10). Similarly there were no clinically important changes in vital signs, laboratory parameters, or electrocardiography. NClOOlOO correctly identified the vast majority of normally perfused segments assessed by SPECT.

As you can sec, U.S. caffeine consumption is more than 200 milligrams a day per capita (also see Brice Smith, 2002) and in fact may be closing in on 240 milligrams a day per capita (Barone Roberts, 1996 Cauli Morelli, 2005). The U.S. average is at least triple the world average, and over half is from coffee consumption. The dominant contribution of coffee also holds for Canada and the world. Europe has some hea T coffee-drinking countries. The Scandinavian countries—Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway—are the world s top coffee consumers, for example. Austria s coffee consumption is at a similar level (D Amicis Viani, 1993). 

Norway, with a tax as high as 54.00/t of C02, is currently gaining attention for its massive sequestration project, the sole purpose of which is to avoid atmospheric emissions. At the Sleipner Field, Statoil of Norway separates C02 associated with natural gas production from even deeper geological strata at the same site. Statoil annually injects one million metric tons of C02 into a capped geological formation 1000 meters below a shallow sea inlet. To provide a basis for comparison, this is approximately the C02 output from a 120-MW electric coal-fired power plant.
