Wistar rat

Balb c mice and Wistar rats were used in the experiments. The administration of single doses of 1, 2 and 2 caused mainly necrotic changes in the liver, measured by GPT and histopathology. The extent of necrosis depended on doses and on time of observation (1-4 days after injections). In shorter time interval (2-4 hrs) 1, 2 and 2 caused depletion of hepatic GSH (even up to 10 % of control). 4 and 5 did not generate necrotic changes. Increased GPT activity was observed after 3 doses of fi. Single doses of 4, 5 and fi mostly increased the level of malondialdehyde (MDA-indicator of lipid peroxidation) in the liver. Repeated injections (3-7) of the investigated compounds enhanced the activity of ALA-D or ALA-S in the liver and caused steatosis. [Pg.387]

The experiments were performed on male Balb c mice with body weight 23-30 g, and on male Wistar rats - body weight 190-250 g. The animals were fed with Standard LSM chow and given water ad libitum. The animals were administered oil solutions or suspensions of monobromobenzene 1, 1,2-... [Pg.388]

A study on Wistar rats by Farr et al. (2001) showed no maternal toxicity at doses up to 5 mg/kg body weight for dibutyltin dichloride signs of maternal toxicity — reduced body weight gain, decreased food consumption, and thymus weight — were observed at 10 mg/kg body weight. No teratogenic effects were seen at 10 mg/kg... [Pg.24]

The effects of protein deficiency on endosulfan toxicity were studied in Wistar rats (Boyd and Dobos 1969 Boyd et al. 1970). Rats fed a diet totally deficient in protein for 28 days prior to administration of a single oral dose of endosulfan had an LDjq of 5.1 mg/kg of endosulfan. Rats fed a low-protein diet (3.5% protein) for 28 days had an LDjq of 24 mg/kg of endosulfan. Rats fed standard laboratory chow (26% protein) had an LDjq of 102-121 mg/kg. The immediate cause of death in all animals was respiratory failure following tonic-clonic convulsions. This study demonstrated that, while a protein-deficient diet does not affect the nature of the toxic reaction, it may affect the sensitivity of rats to the lethal effects of endosulfan. [Pg.48]

Protein deficiency enhances the lethal effects of endosulfan in Wistar rats (Boyd and Dobos 1969 Boyd et al. 1970). Thus, humans consuming protein-deficient diets may represent a sensitive subpopulation (see Section 2.9). [Pg.148]

Female Wistar rats treated orally with 0.125-16 jug/kg/day of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (8-D), 50-800 jug/kg/day of 1,2,3,4-tetra-chlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (4-D , and 250-2000 /xg/kg/day of 2,7-dichloro-dibenzo-p-dioxin (2-D) and 1,000-2,000 /xg/kg/day of 2,3-dichlorodi-benzo-p-dioxin or 2-chlorodibenzo-p-dioxin during 6—15 days of gestation (first morning of a positive vaginal smear was designated as day 1) were assessed for prenatal effects of the compounds on their progeny. [Pg.71]

An MRL of 0.1 ppm was derived for intermediate inhalation exposure (15-364 days) to trichloroethylene. This MRL was based on a study by Arito et al. (1994a) in which male JCL-Wistar rats were exposed to 0, 50, 100, or 300 ppm trichloroethylene for 6 weeks, 5 days/week, 8 hours/day. A LOAEL of 50 ppm was observed for decreased wakefulness during exposure, and decreased postexposure heart rate and slow wave sleep. Another study with rats found an increase in sleep-apneic episodes and cardiac arrhythmias after exposure to trichloroethylene (Arito et al. 1993). These results corroborate similar effects observed in humans exposed to trichloroethylene, as described in the previous paragraph, as well as evidence of organic solvent-induced sleep apnea in humans (Edling et al. 1993 Monstad et al. 1987, 1992 Wise et al. 1983). [Pg.140]
