Installation certificate

Electrical safety. Most common commercial instruments have been certified for electrical safety by an organization such as UL (Underwriters Laboratory), CE, or CSA (Canadian Standards Association). However, certain less common instruments or custom-built instruments may have to go through a certification process at the time of installation. Certification required for electrical safety may take time to complete. A protective shield or casing may be required for automated systems with robotic arms for sample manipulation, to protect operators. [Pg.146]

An Electrical Installation certificate should be used for the initial certification of a new electrical installation or for an alteration or addition to an existing installation. [Pg.371]

Pump tests are needed to establish the performance of a machine before delivery to the user so that contract conditions may be satisfied. They are also required to establish the health of the pump at intervals in its service life. When a new pump is delivered, the pump manufacturer will supply data required either as a set of performance points or a plot as a certificate of suitability. Ideally, the pump should be tested in the system configuration that it is intended to supply, but usually tests are performed in the test bay in a standardized manner laid down by national and international codes. Validations fall into two types prospective and retrospective. In prospective validation (see flow chart in Figure 2) the validation is done in a sequential manner, involving installation qualification and operational qualification (IQ/OQ) of equipment (e.g., chromatography instrumentation or column hardware). Typical conditions used in today s commercial processes are summarized in Table IV (7). In the U.S., the Clean Air Act mandated that low-emission fuels will have to be developed for future use. Industry responded quickly, and by 1994 typical diesel fuels in the U.S. contained 0.05% S, with average cetane numbers of 42 and 31-37% aromatics. California imposed stricter standards, requiring 0.05% S and a minimum of 48 cetane with an emission that did not exceed that of a 10% aromatic fuel.
