If a rubber is in Region I of mill processability, incorporation is difficult because rubber and carbon black tend to stay separate sometimes it is described as, a rubber is too dry . In Region II the rubber is a soft, stretchable solid. [Pg.33]

The distribution depends greatly upon how the compound as a whole moves around in the chamber of the internal mixer. Uniform movement without a partial stagnation is the key. If the mixing chamber is 100% filled, the compound cannot move easily. In an extreme case, the rubber mixture may be separated into one part which passes under the rotor tips repeatedly and another part which does not. The latter will have a higher modulus, because of the poorer dispersion. It is less likely to have a higher modulus fraction passing imder the rotor tips than a lower modulus fraction. [Pg.34]

This chapter will describe some of tire basic unit processes in ceramic manufacturing, and will touch on tire pertinence of tire physical chemistry of surfaces in selected unit processes. For a more comprehensive review of ceramics and ceramic processing, tire reader is referred to otlrer sources [3, 4 and 5]. [Pg.2761]

R. D. Pehlke, Unit Process of Extractive Metallurgy, Elsevier Pubhshing Co., New York, 1973. [Pg.54]

Production of a metal is usually achieved by a sequence of chemical processes represented as a flow sheet. A limited number of unit processes are commonly used in extractive metallurgy. The combination of these steps and the precise conditions of operations vary significantly from metal to metal, and even for the same metal these steps vary with the type of ore or raw material. The technology of extraction processes was developed in an empirical way, and technical innovations often preceded scientific understanding of the processes. [Pg.162]

They may be favored over in situ treatment where they will reduce cleanup times, their operation and capabiHties are considered more reHable or better understood, or they can achieve lower cleanup levels. Both in situ and ex situ treatment for soil and ground water rely on a combination of unit processes, which often include biological degradation of organics. [Pg.169]

Electrodeposition. Electro deposition, the most important of the unit processes in electrorefining, is performed in lead- or plastic-lined concrete cells or, more recently, in polymer—concrete electrolytic cells. A refinery having an aimual production of 175,000 t might have as many as 1250 cells in the tank house. The cells are multiply coimected such that anodes and cathodes are placed alternately and coimected in parallel. Each cell is a separate unit and electrically coimected to adjacent cells by a bus bar. [Pg.202]

The basic steps of dye (and intermediate) manufacture are shown in Figure 10. There are usually several reaction steps or unit processes. [Pg.299]

The reactor itself, in which the unit processes to produce the intermediates and dyes are carried out, is usually the focal point of the plant, but this does not mean that it is the most important part of the total manufacture, nor that it absorbs most of the capital or operational costs. Operations subsequent to reaction are often referred to as work-up stages. These vary from product to product with intermediates (used without drying wherever practicable) needing less finishing operations than colorants. [Pg.299]

Remote control units. These units are used to control unit processes. Basic control functions such as the PID algorithm are implemented here. Depending on other hardware components used, data acquisition capability may be required to perform digital control. They may be configured to supply process set points to single-loop controllers. Radio telemetiy may be installed to communicate with MUX units located at great distances. [Pg.772]

Dry Scrubbing Diy scruhhing is an umbrella term used to associate several different unit operations and types of hardware that can be used in combinations to accomplish the unit process of dry scrubbing. They all utilize scrubbing, in which mass transfer takes place between the gas phase and an active liquidlike surface, and they all discharge the resulting products separately as a gas and a sohdlike diy product for reuse or disposal. [Pg.1597]
