Paper-Base Grades. Grade X is primarily intended for mechanical apphcations where electrical properties are of secondary importance. It should be used with discretion when high humidity conditions are encountered and it is not equal to fabric-base grades in impact strength. [Pg.536]

Fabric-Based Grades. Grade C is made from cotton fabric weighing over 140 g/m (4 oz/yd ). The maximum thread count in any ply is 28/cm (72/in.) in the fiU direction, and the maximum total thread count in the warp and fiU directions is 56/cm (140/in.). Heavier fabrics provide higher impact strength but rougher machined edges. Its use for electrical apphcations is not recommended. [Pg.536]

Pad-batch dyeing shows its primary benefits over other methods where it is possible to apply the dye on grey (unbleached) minimally prepared fabric, eg, T-shirts, followed by washing on the same perforated beam used to batch the fabric after dyeing. Where a bleached fabric base is needed, the bleaching is best carried out using peroxide by pad-batch technique in order to ensure an even effect and pick up when padding the dye Hquor. Similarly all other preparation is best carried out in open-width. [Pg.356]

Figure 2.9.3 shows typical maps [31] recorded with proton spin density diffusometry in a model object fabricated based on a computer generated percolation cluster (for descriptions of the so-called percolation theory see Refs. [6, 32, 33]).The pore space model is a two-dimensional site percolation cluster sites on a square lattice were occupied with a probability p (also called porosity ). Neighboring occupied sites are thought to be connected by a pore. With increasing p, clusters of neighboring occupied sites, that is pore networks, begin to form. At a critical probability pc, the so-called percolation threshold, an infinite cluster appears. On a finite system, the infinite cluster connects opposite sides of the lattice, so that transport across the pore network becomes possible. For two-dimensional site percolation clusters on a square lattice, pc was numerically found to be 0.592746 [6]. [Pg.209]

The photodegradation of para-aramid in an 0 atmosphere allows the differentiation between the accelerated experimental photooxidative conditions from its usual daylight exposure effects. This study illustrated an estimation of the rates of photooxidation of a commercial para-aramid product (i.e., DuPont s Kevlar-29 woven fabric) based on the oxygen-18-labelled carbon dioxide ( CC and CC ) decarboxylated from the sample. The oxygen-18-labelled atoms, which are inserted in the macromolecules, were analyzed for the photodegradation processes. This technique also allows the radial l O-distribution measurement from the fiber surface toward the fiber center. [Pg.326]

LAJs fabricated based using the PALO technique provided for alkane chains a [1 factor of 0.86 A 1 (Fig. 8), a value in good agreement with literature [78]. [Pg.100]

Low-iemperature Ti02 film fabrication based on an understanding of tne electron transpor1 will also open up the possibility for further reduction in production costs. Study of the environmental aspects of dye-sensitized solar ceds revealed that DSC is a suitaole alternative for the electric generator because of its earth-friendliness.105) Based on a Life Cycle Assessment in ISO 14040 standard, carbon dioxiae emission of the cell is estimated to be 19-47 g C02/kWh, whicn is 1/10 that of the gas power plant (450 g C02/kWh). " oxicity of Dye 3 is negligible because of its negative Ames test.106 ... [Pg.354]

Apart from cellulose, direct dyes have a strong affinity to wool and polyamide fibers. Blends of cellulose with wool ( half wool ) used to occupy a considerable segment of the market, but are today without any significance. However polyamide (PA) fibers are included in articles made of cellulose fibers to improve dimensional stability, ease of care, and durability, e.g., in sportswear and knitwear, corduroy fabrics, or plush articles, in which a PA pile is often anchored to a cellulose fabric base. Different dyeing methods are described in [50 pp. 433-4371, [6, p. 570],... [Pg.361]

UV-EL diodes were fabricated based on a Al/polysilane/ITO/glass structure.36 Glass or quartz plates coated with indium-tin-oxide (ITO) were used as substrates. The EL diodes operate at room temperature.36 A typical representation of the structure is shown in Figure 26.93 The device comprises a heterojunction forming a Schottky diode, with the polysilane film being the p-type layer, the ITO acting as an ohmic contact, and the A1 being the Schottky... [Pg.240]

As a further test of the etched open tubular approach for the analysis of optical isomers, another column was fabricated based on the selector naphthylethylamine that had been attached to porous silica by the silanization/hydrosilation method for use in HPLC [70]. As in the HPLC experiments, this column was best suited for the resolution of the optical isomers of dinitrobenzoyl methyl esters of amino acids. The best separation (a = 1.14) was obtained for the alanine derivative. In addition, the peak symmetry and efficiency for the naphthylethylamine column was significantly better than that obtained on the cyclodextrin column. However, as shown in HPLC experiments, changes in the amino acid moiety (replacing alanine with valine, etc.) often results in a loss of chiral resolution. In the case of optical isomers, the separation mechanism in HPLC and CEC modes is identical since only interaction between the solute and the bonded phase can result in resolution of the enantiomers. [Pg.277]

Acetylcholineesterase and choline oxidase A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified by electrodepositing sub pm Pt-black particles on the surface. ACh and Ch. micro biosensor arrays were fabricated based on immobilization of AChE—ChO or ChO by cross linking with gentar-aldehyde on Pt-black GCE. Significant enhancement in the performance of these biosensors was achieved. The chronoamperometric response of 1 p biosensor array was linear from 29 to 1200 pM with detection limit of 8.7 pM acetylcholine. [109]... [Pg.53]

For heavy-duty purposes such as bearings, tough strong fabrics like cotton duck are substituted for the paper. Fabric-based laminates may be further modified with graphite, fluorocarbons, or other low friction materials to provide low-friction composite bearings requiring no lubricant. [Pg.464]

Tensile test specimens have been fabricated based on ASTM D 3039 for off-axis angles. The materials chosen for fiber and matrix were E-Glass UD-weaves and ML-506 Epoxy resin, respectively. UD-weave fiber lay-up and test specimen geometry are shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2 ... [Pg.223]

It was demonstrated481 that preliminary modification of cotton fabrics by grafting with AN, butyl acrylate (BA) or lauryl methacrylate enhances the efficiency of cross-linking by dimethyloldihydroxyethylurea, i.e. increases the tear resistance, abrasion resitance and the wrinkle recovery angle of the cross-linked fabric. Fabrics based on cross-linked copolymers of cotton with poly(methacrylie acid) proved less susceptible to contamination and showed easier oil and soil release than the cloths obtained from non-modified cross-linked cotton. [Pg.147]
