POL The value determined by direct or single polarization of the normal weight of a sugar product or process stream in a polarimeter (saccharimeter). The normal weight (26 g in a 100-mL aqueous solution) of pure sucrose reads 100% or 100° pol in a polarimeter calibrated for sucrose measurement with a standard quartz plate. [Pg.467]

BAM showed bright regions due to the Ag particles and dark regions occupied primarily by oleic acid (Fig. 10b). TEM showed monolayer domains of surfactant-coated silver particles within regions of oleic acid. Vertical transfer onto quartz plates of up to eight layers with good linearity was reported. [Pg.76]

The experiment was carried out in a reaction cell shown in Fig. 3.3 with inner walls covered by a zinc oxide film having thickness 10 pm [20]. The surface area of the measuring film on the quartz plate was about 1/445 of the total film area on the wall of the vessel. The results of direct experimental measurements obtained when the adsorbent temperature was -196 C and temperature of pyrolysis filament (emitter of H-atoms) 1000°C and 1100°C, are shown on Fig. 3.4. One can see a satisfactory linear dependence between parameters A r (the change in film conductivity) and APh2 (reduction of hydrogen pressure due to adsorption of H-atoms), i.e. relations... [Pg.180]

Investigation of interaction of electrons of different energies with a solid material in plasma processes may be even more intriguing and important, especially in the case of an adsorbed layer of materials contained in the reaction vessel. Provided thin semiconductor films deposited on the walls of the reaction vessel are used as solid targets, these films can be simultaneously used as targets and semiconductor sensors. This is also the case when such films are deposited on the specially manufactured quartz plates with electrodes accessible from the outside of the vessel. These sensors can be placed in any point of the vessel. [Pg.274]

Films of purified PVCa were cast from methylene chloride solution on quartz plates. The solvent was allowed to slowly evaporate to give smooth, clear films with a thickness of ca. 5.0 nm. Contact angle measurements using water droplets were measured with a standard contact angle goniometer. Samples were photo-lysed in air with polychromatic light from a 150 watt xenon arc. Contact angles were measured after various times of irradiation to monitor the formation of oxidation products at the surface of the polymer films. [Pg.142]

Multilayer assemblies of -0.5 pm thickness were built up on quartz plates and the films were characterized in detail using spectroscopic (vis. IR) and electron microscopic techniques. [Pg.218]

The pulse mode experiments were conducted by placing the sample between the quartz plates and exposing it to 30 second bursts of UV radiation. Dynamic rheological tests were then applied to the sample and this process was repeated until the sample had passed its gel point and became highly cross-linked. [Pg.154]

AT-cut, 9 MHz quartz-crystal oscillators were purchased from Kyushu Dentsu, Co., Tokyo, in which Ag electrodes (0.238 cm2) had been deposited on each side of a quartz-plate (0.640 cm2). A homemade oscillator circuit was designed to drive the quartz at its resonant frequency both in air and water phases. The quartz crystal plates were usually treated with 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexamethyldisilazane to obtain a hydrophobic surface unless otherwise stated [28]. Frequencies of the QCM was followed continuously by a universal frequency counter (Iwatsu, Co., Tokyo, SC 7201 model) attached to a microcomputer system (NEC, PC 8801 model). The following equation has been obtained for the AT-cut shear mode QCM [10] ... [Pg.123]

In Fig. 15 are shown UV-visible absorption spectra of type a and type b of 15 bilayers consisting of an alternate A-S-D triad-CaT (1 5) and a pure CaT mono-layer and type a of 15 bilayers containing A-S dyads in place of the triads. Hie LB films of type a were deposited on quartz plates, but the LB film of type b on a chemically modified quartz plate by octadecyltrichlorosilane. An absorption peak around 450 nm can be assigned to the acylated perylene moieties for the dyad and... [Pg.207]

The samples for the linear Stark effect measurement were prepared as follows. First, 9 monolayers of cadmium arachidate were deposited on fused quartz plates with semitransparent A1 electrodes. Next, test layers which contained 30 layers of compound C180AZ0SN were deposited. Then, further 10 layers of cadmium arachidate were deposited. Finally, the semitransparent top A1 electrodes were vacuum-deposited. [Pg.304]

Third-order susceptibilities of the PAV cast films were evaluated with the third-harmonic generation (THG) measurement [31,32]. The THG measurement was carried out at fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm and between 1500 nm and 2100 nm using difference-frequency generation combined with a Q-switched Nd YAG laser and a tunable dye laser. From the ratio of third-harmonic intensities I3m from the PAV films and a fused quartz plate ( 1 thick) as a standard, the value of x(3) was estimated according to the following equation derived by Kajzar et al. [33] ... [Pg.322]
