Castor

The name ricinoleic acid is used in commerce for the mixture of fatty acids obtained by hydrolysing castor oil, and its salts are called ricinoleates. [Pg.346]

HOOC-[CHa]8-COOH, CioH.aO. Colourless leaflets m.p. 134°C. Manufactured by heating castor oil with alkalis or by distillation of oleic acid. Forms an anhydride, m.p. 78 C. The esters of sebacic acid are used as plasticizers, especially for vinyl resins. [Pg.354]

HOaQCHjlfiCOiH, CSH14O4. Important dicarboxylic acid obtained by oxidizing ricino-leic acid (from castor oil) also obtained by oxidation of cyclo-octene or cyclo-octadiene formerly obtained from cork. Used in the formation of alkyd resins and polyamides. Esters are used as plasticizers and heavy duty lubricants and oils. [Pg.375]

Lithium hydroxide with 12-hydroxy-stearic acid (or hydrogenated castor oil) they form the family of lithium greases very commonly used for general lubrication and bearing lubrication. [Pg.281]

The sum of opex and capex is sometimes termed the technical castor total cost. [Pg.308]

Figure Bl.14.8. Time course study of the arrival and accumulation of labelled sucrose in the stem of a castor bean seedling. The labelled tracer was chemically, selectively edited using CYCLCROP (cyclic cross polarization). The first image in the upper left comer was taken before the incubation of the seedlmg with enriched hexoses. The time given in each image represents the time elapsed between tire start of the incubation and the acquisition. The spectmm in the lower right comer of each image shows the total intensity... A convenient source of the enzyme is castor oil seeds. The oil of the seeds is itself an ester, and therefore if the action of the enzyme is to be demonstrated on an extraneous ester, the castor oil must first be completely removed by extraction with ether. This, however, is a long process and may require several days for completion. The hydrolysing action of the enzyme on the oil in I he seed can however be demonstrated as described on p. 512. [Pg.510]

Plant lipase seeds rich in oil, castor oil seeds J J 5-0... [Pg.511]

Soreness which may follow ver minor accidents to the eye may he relieved bv placing i drop of castor oil in the corner of the eye. [Pg.527]

A mixture of equal parts of cottonseed oil and castor oil, containing about 1 per cent, of hydroquinone as an anti oxidant, is a useful bath liquid which can be heated up to about 250°. [Pg.78]

Undecylenic acid (or 10-undecenoic acid) (I), a comparatively inexpensive commercial product obtained from castor oil, reacts with bromine in dry carbon tetrachloride to give 10 11-dibromoundecoic acid (II), which upon heating with a concentrated solution of potassium hydroxide yields 10-niidecynoic acid (III) ... [Pg.468]

Vaseline, Castor oil, Olivo oil, Sal volatile, Boracic acid powder, Sodium bicarbonate powder, Chloramiue-T powder. Sulpha-pyridine powder, Butesin picrate ointment. [Pg.1131]

Some of the substances used to denature ethanol include methanol benzene pyri dine castor oil and gasoline... [Pg.624]
