In the automated lay-up system, each layer of veneer (with exception of the top surface veneer) passes under an automatic adhesive appHcation system. This may be a spray appHcation, a curtain coater, or an extmder, each of which is designed to apply a uniform adhesive spread on the upper face of each veneer. After all except the top veneer have been spread with adhesive and laid together, the top veneer is added. The me of the veneer—adhesive assembly at this point should be about 8%. [Pg.384]

The use of hot gas clean-up methods to remove the sulfur and particulates from the gasified fuel increases turbine performance by a few percentage points over the cold clean-up systems. Hot gas clean-up permits use of the sensible heat and enables retention of the carbon dioxide and water vapor in the... [Pg.70]

Anions of heterocyclics may attack heterocumulenes to set up systems which can incorporate new atom sequences into the ring by nucleophilic attack on a ring site (such as a carbonyl group). Scheme 32 gives an example (80AG(E)466). [Pg.45]

More details of operation in an actual study can be seen in Berty et al, (1982). In tliis work, a condenser and a liquid-gas separator were used in the product line before the pressure let-down. Keeping the products all in the vapor phase was difficult. Other improvements later included a continuous, four-component, feedgas make-up system with a compressor. [Pg.87]

The note attached to clause 4.1.1.3 needs to be interpreted carefully otherwise you will have every individual setting up systems to monitor their relationship with the people to whom they provide product or information. Everyone needs to be aware of their relationships with others but formal systems are only necessary between organizations. If your organization receives formal orders from other parts of the same company then there may be benefit in treating this as a customer-supplier relationship and monitoring customer satisfaction. [Pg.108]

The modified FMEA approach has been used by the API to develop RP14C. In this document ten different process components have been analyzed and a Safety Analysis Table (SAT) has been developed for each component. A sample SAT for a pressure vessel is shown in Table 14-4. The fact that Tables 14-3 and 14-4 are not identical is due to both the subjective natures of a Hazard Analysis and FMEA, and to the fact that RP14C is a consensus standard. However, although the rationale differs somewhat, the devices required are identical. (The gas make-up system in Table 14-4 is not really required by RP14C, as we shall see.)... [Pg.401]

The RP 14C also provides standard reasons allowing the elimination of certain devices when the process component is considered as part of an overall system. Figure 14-3 shows the Safety Analysis Checklist (SAC) for a pressure vessel. Each safety device is identified by the SAT (with the exception of gas make-up system ) is listed. It must either be installed or it can be eliminated if one of the reasons listed is valid. [Pg.401]

The cyclization of 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds with aldehydes in the presence of NH4OAC to give imidazoles was employed in a combinatorial study that compared conventional and microwave heating in the preparation of a library of sulfanyl-imidazoles (Scheme 15). The study employed an array of expandable reaction vessels that could accommodate a pressure build-up system for heating without loss of volatile solvents or reagents. A 24-membered library of imidazoles (48 and 49) was prepared in 16 min instead of the 12 h required using conventional heating [45]. [Pg.223]

Recursive procedures demand special attention to flow control and data structures. For instance, the flow control within the procedure must correctly handle an error, say missing file information or inconsistent data, that is discovered several iterations deep. Should the procedure break and return to the previous level only Should it force return to the level of the original invocation of the procedure Should it allow an interactive user a choice of supplying missing data, and if so, on any level of iteration If files are opened within the procedures, should they be closed when a recursive call is needed, or are new channel numbers to be requested, using up system resources ... [Pg.55]

A plasma process is characterized by many parameters, and their interrelations are very complex. It is of paramount importance to understand, at least to a first approximation, how the plasma parameters have to be adjusted when the geometrical dimensions of the plasma system are enlarged. Especially of use in scaling up systems are scaling laws, as formulated by Goedheeret al. [148, 149] (see also Section 1.3.2.2). [Pg.18]

Processes and equipment should be designed to reduce the chances of mis-operation by providing tight control systems, alarms and interlocks. Sample points, process equipment drains, and pumps should be sited so that any leaks flow into the plant effluent collection system, not directly to sewers. Hold-up systems, tanks and ponds, should be provided to retain spills for treatment. Flanged joints should be kept to the minimum needed for the assembly and maintenance of equipment. [Pg.903]

And there are others. If you are using a walk-up system, there will probably be some general guidelines posted on it. Assume that these are useful and adhere to them as far as possible. They will be by their very nature, no more than a guide, as every sample is unique in terms of its molecular weight and distribution of signal intensity. Also, a walk-up system is likely to be limited in terms of how much time... [Pg.14]

Take a moment to survey the spectrum and ask yourself if it is fit for purpose Of course, if you have run it yourself, then it should be fine but this may not always be so with walk-up systems. Is the line shape and resolution up to standard Has the spectrum been phased correctly Is the vertical scale well adjusted so that you can see the tops of all the peaks (except perhaps, obvious... [Pg.41]

Shwarkawy et al. (1997, 1998a,b) also demonstrated that changes in pore size not only effected vascular density but also the response to systemic uptake of drug through a vascularized implant. It was demonstrated that the 60 pm pore material delivered the drug in almost half the time it took for a subcutaneous injection to be taken up systemically. This is due to the increased vascular density as well as increased vascular permeability at these pore sizes (Shwarkawy et al., 1997, 1998a,b). [Pg.103]

Portable fuel-cell systems are systems that produce electricity for devices with a performance ranging from several watts to 10 kilowatts. The heat produced in the process is a by-product that is normally not used. The system has, therefore, to be cooled down by fans or cooling surfaces, etc. A wide range of applications is possible for fuel cells from small electronic devices like camcorders, mobile phones, laptops, etc. to electric tools, back-up systems, or power generation on boats or caravans. [Pg.367]

A small addition to a logarithmic curve will be very evident at the lower end of the curve and virtually invisible at the top. For good matches with experimental curves plotted on a logarithmic scale (to see small peaks) it is necessary to add a background noise. With a well set up system, this is essentially the detector background, which may be measured at an angle remote from the substrate peak. [Pg.119]

Restrooms, laboratories, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and battery rooms should have once through ventilation. Laboratories and battery rooms should only be accessed from the outside. [Pg.304]

Catalytic combustion has been commercially demonstrated to reduce NO.. emissions to below 3 ppm while keeping CO and UHC emissions below 10 ppm without the need for expensive exhaust clean-up systems. In addition, a catalytic combustor reduces typical DLN problems such as risk of blow-out and flame instability. Also, the economic advantage of primary methods including catalytic combustion as opposed to secondary clean-up measures (SCR and SCONOx) has recently been assessed [1]. [Pg.363]

In Japan, there is a project aimed at capturing the considerable volume of hydrogen gas which can be obtained as a by-product steel production. R D will focus on the purification process of fuel from coke oven gas to an acceptable level for fuel cell utilisation. METI, the Japan Research and Development Centre for Metals and Nippon Steel are working on the project with a 2003 budget allocation of 549 million. Japan also operates the 4C/.f project which aimsto develop an optimum coal gasifier for fuel cells and the establishment of gas clean-up system for purification of coal gas to the acceptable level for utilisation for MCFC and SOFC. The budget allocations for 2000-2003 total 4.6 billion. [Pg.52]
