Hydrostatic Transmissions. The most recent use of hydrauhc power has been in hydrostatic transmissions which are used in many self-propelled harvesting machines and garden tractors and in large tractors and constmction machines. Apphcations in tmcks for highway operation also are being developed. No clutch is used and no gear shifting is involved, thus this type of transmission could be called automatic, but in all other respects the hydrostatic transmission has no similarity to the hydrokinetic automatic transmission (16). [Pg.270]

Defining the requirements for a pilot-plant control system is often difficult because process plant experience for comparison and evaluation is commonly lacking and the design is frequentiy performed by personnel inexperienced in either instmmentation systems or pilot-plant operations. There is a wide use of these feedstocks in European production. European and Asian operations also use significant quantities of coal tars, creosote oils, and anthracene oils, the distillates from the high temperature coking of coal. Power In general, power requirements are not a major consideration in choosing a sohds mixer since other requirements usually predominate. However, sufficient power must be supplied to handle the maximum needs should there he changes during the mixing operation. Also, when a variety of mixes may be required, power must be sufficient for the heaviest bulk-density materials. If the loaded mixer is to be started from rest, there should be sufficient power for this. Column Bottom Temperature. The bottom temperature is often controlled on the reboiler outlet line with a control valve in the heating medium line. The control point can also be on a bottom section tray. Care must be exercised in location of the temperature control point. It is recommended, especially for large columns, that a cascade arrangement be used. The recommended scheme has a complete flow recorder/controller (FRC) in the heating medium line including orifice and control valve. The set point of this FRC is manipulated by the temperature recorder/controller (TRC). This eliminates the TRC from manipulating the control valve directly (recall that temperature is the most difficult parameter to control). This makes for smoother control for normal operations. Also, it is handy for startup to be able to uncouple the TRC and run the reboiler on FRC for a period. [Pg.68]

Dust can be emitted wherever solids are mined (e.g. in quames), processed (e.g. flour mills, woodworking factories, metal smelting and foundries), or handled/transported in particulate form. Construction and demolition operations also generate dust. [Pg.503]

Some method of pressure relief is required on all pressure vessels and for other proeess equipment where inereasing pressure might rupture the vessel. Mueh of the piping used in modern ehemieal operations also requires overpressure proteetion. Safety relief valves or rupture dises are employed for pressure relief. In many eases, either a rupture dise or a safety relief valve ean be used. Safety relief valves are usually used for proeess proteetion and rupture dises are used for vessel proteetion. The safety relief valve or rupture dise must be designed to operate at a known pressure and prevent the pressure within the system from inereasing. In any given situation, there may be different levels of dependence between an operator s performance on one task and on another because of the characteristics of the tasks theraseb e.s. or because of the manner in which the operator was cued to perform the tasks. Dependence levels between the performances of two (or more) operators also may differ. The analyses should account for dependency in human-error probabilities. In addition, each sequence may have a set of human recovery actions that if successfully performed will terminate or reduce the consequences of the sequence. A run was carried out with an extract flow rate of = 8.64 niL min (and a raffinate flow rate of = 4.72 niL min ). Raffinate purity close to 100 % (PUR = 99.6 %) was obtained, but the extract purity was lower (PUX = 97.5 %).
