In order to install and run the OPUS version 4.0 demo you will need a Pentium III nbsp class PC with the Microsoft WINDOWS NT 4.0, WINDOWS 2000 or WINDOWS XP platforms, but note that neither WINDOWS 95 nor WINDOWS 98 are suitable. It is recommended to use an 800 MHz (or higher) processor with at least 128 MB RAM base memory (256 MB recommended) and a hard disk. The demo version of the software and the spectra database are both stored on the CD-ROM enclosed. A corresponding CD-ROM drive is therefore required. Prior to starting the installation proeedure you should ensure that the operating system WINDOWS NT 4.0 with the Service Pack 6 or WINDOWS 2000 or WINDOWS XP is already installed on your computer. The minimum technical requirements for your OPUS workstation are summarized in Tab. 2.1. [Pg.3]

The planning of a project starts with the definition of what reference material is to be produced. Usually, this definition just say is something like  [Pg.11]

Although this definition might need some further specification, it is satisfactory to start the design of the project. The first task in such a project is to obtain a sufficient amount of raw material with the desired properties. The amount of material needed is dictated by the following parts of the projects  [Pg.11]

Each of these aspects will be addressed briefly in this Section. [Pg.11]

The number of samples of reference material needed is a commercial issue in the first place. An important variable is the number of samples likely to be sold during the lifetime ( shelf life ) of the reference material. As the lifetime is a function of the intrinsic stability of the material, this variable also affects the amount of raw material is needed. For instance, microbiological materials have limited intrinsic stability, and therefore their lifetime is expected to be shorter than for a dry sediment certified for trace elements. In those cases where there are any doubts about the feasibility of producing a sufficiently homogeneous and stable reference material, a feasibility study might be needed. For this study, an extra amount of material is needed. Questions regarding the best way of preparing the sample, the stability of the material, or the fitness for purpose might justify the inclusion of a feasibility study in the project. In the BCR projects, it is common practice to have a feasibility study, which usually has as the sole purpose of assessing the performance of the laboratories in the collaborative study in relation to the certification of the reference material. The feasibility study allows the participants to fine-tune their equipment, their methods, and their procedures in view of the characterization measurements. In each of these cases, a considerable extra number of samples is needed. [Pg.12]

The software and the comprehensive NMR data base are both stored on a CD-ROM. A corresponding drive is therefore required and a hard disk with at least 100 MB spare capacity is advisable.The use of floppy diskettes for importing ID NMR data sets is possible, but this is not feasible for 2D data sets because of their size. [Pg.9]

The databases produced by Chemical Abstracts Service are currently offered by one or more hosts.
