4 Technical requirements of slurry surfacing based on visual assessment and surface characteristics 

In accordance to CEN EN 12273 (2008), the slurry surfacing after a certain period should not have more surface defects than specified at the stage of determining the target mix, and its surface characteristics should satisfy the requirements. 

The defects are assessed visually between 11 and 13 months after installation. During the same period, the surface characteristic, expressed in depth of macro-texture, is also determined. 

The surface defects assessed together with the performance categories to be selected are shown in Table 6.6. 

The high categories (4 and 5) are selected for sites with high traffic volume, whereas the low category (category 1) is selected for sites with low traffic.
