Sodium sulfadiazine

Sulfadiazine Sodium Solutions of sulfadiazine sodium are alkaline, and incompatibility may reasonably be expected with acidic drugs or preparations unstable at high pH. Sulfadiazine interacts with paraaminobenzoic acid derivatives. [Pg.336]

Methadone Hydrochloride Visual incompatibilities of methadone hydrochloride were observed with solutions of aminophylline, ammonium chloride, amylo-barbitone sodium, chlorothiazide sodium, heparin sodium, nitrofurantoin sodium, novobiocin, pentobarbitone sodium, phenobarbitone sodium, phenytoin sodium, quinalbarbitone sodium, sodium bicarbonate, sodium iodide, sulfadiazine sodium, sulfafurazole diethanolamine, or thiopentone sodium. [Pg.342]

Pethidine Hydrochloride Pethidine hydrochloride solutions are not compatible with barbiturates, aminophylline, morphine sulfate, sulfadiazine sodium, methicilline sodium, nitrofurantoin, phenytoin sodium, heparin sodium, sodium iodide, diethanolamine, sulfafurazol, acyclovir sodium, liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride, frusemide, imipenem, and idarubicin. Visual incompatibilities are reported with mixtures of pethidine hydrochloride and cefoperazone sodium or mezlocillin sodium, nafcillin sodium and minocycline hydrochloride or tetracycline hydrochloride in 5% glucose injection.82 83... [Pg.344]

What is the pH below which sulfadiazine (plC, = 6.48) will begin to precipitate in an infusion fluid, when the initial molar concentration of sulfadiazine sodium is 4 X 10 mol dm and the solubility of sulfadiazine is 3.07 X 10 mol dm ... [Pg.151]

Sulfadiazine Sodium, USP. Soluble sulfadiazine is an anhydrous, white, colorless, crystalline powder. soluble in water (1 2) and. slightly soluble in alcohol. Its water solutions are alkaline (pH 9 to 10) and absorb carbon dioxide from the air. with precipitation of sulfadiazine. It is administered as a 5%. solution in sterile water intravenously for patients requiring an immediately high blood level of the sulfonamide. [Pg.277]

Sodium salt, CjjH NjNaOjS sulfadiazine sodium, soluble sulfadiazine. White powder. On prolonged exposure to humid air, it absorbs carbon dioxide with the liberation of sulfadiazine and becomes incompletely sol in water. One gram dissolves in about 2 ml of water. Slightly sol in ale. Solns are alkaline to phenolphthalein (pH 9 -11). [Pg.1404]

This compound is a complex mixture of the sulfates of gentamycin Ci, gentamycin CiA and gentamycin C2. Pharmaceutical incompatibilites include amphotericin, cephalosporins, erythromycin, heparin, penicillins, sodium bicarbonate, and sulfadiazine sodium [295]... [Pg.1216]

Incompatibilities Do not mix IV minocycline before or during administration with any solutions containing the following Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), aminophylline, amobarbital sodium, amphotericin B, bicarbonate infusion mixtures, calcium gluconate or chloride, carbenicillin, cephalothin sodium, cefazolin sodium, chloramphenicol succinate, colistin sulfate, heparin sodium, hydrocortisone sodium succinate, iodine sodium, methicillin sodium, novobiocin, penicillin, pentobarbital, phenytoin sodium, polymyxin, prochlorperazine, sodium ascorbate, sulfadiazine, sulfisoxazole, thiopental sodium, vitamin K (sodium bisulfate or sodium salt), whole blood. [Pg.1582]

Sodium sulfacetamide ophthalmic solution or ointment is effective in the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis and as adjunctive therapy for trachoma. Another sulfonamide, mafenide acetate, is used topically but can be absorbed from burn sites. The drug and its primary metabolite inhibit carbonic anhydrase and can cause metabolic acidosis, a side effect that limits its usefulness. Silver sulfadiazine is a much less toxic topical sulfonamide and is preferred to mafenide for prevention of infection of burn wounds. [Pg.1033]

Sulfonamides may precipitate in urine, especially at neutral or acid pH, producing crystalluria, hematuria, or even obstruction. This is rarely a problem with the more soluble sulfonamides (eg, sulfisoxazole). Sulfadiazine when given in large doses, particularly if fluid intake is poor, can cause crystalluria. Crystalluria is treated by administration of sodium bicarbonate to alkalinize the urine and fluids to maintain adequate hydration. Sulfonamides have also been implicated in various types of nephrosis and in allergic nephritis. [Pg.1034]

Later studies concerned the detection of both sulfonamides and sulfonamide potentiators in fish tissues. Mixtures containing ethyl acetate, sodium sulfate, and sodium hydroxide (80), or ethyl acetate and sodium hydroxide (115), have been all used for extracting residues of sulfadiazine and trimethoprim from trout and salmon tissues. In the former approach, para-aminobenzoic acid was employed to neutralize sulfadiazine prior to the microbiological assay of trimethoprim, whereas in the latter approach Bacillus subtilis (ATCC) was directly used for sulfadiazine detection. The limit of detection for sulfadiazine using Bacillus subtilis was found to be 0.04 ppm. The test indicator organism used in both approaches to detect trimethoprim down to 0.1 ppm was Bacillus pumilus (CN60 Welcome Research Laboratories, London) (115,116). [Pg.819]

The thermodynamic stability constant of silver sulfadiazine in water has been measured by Boelema et al. (20). They made use of a microcomputer-controlled titrator and measured simultaneously the pH value with a Radiometer G2040C glass electrode and the silver ion concentration with an Orion research 941600 ion-selective silver sulfide electrode. The measured stability constant and standard deviation were logK=3.62i 0.05 n = 9, temperature 25°C, ionic strength 0.1 (sodium nitrate). The calculated conditional stability constant log K at pH 7.4 was 3.57. [Pg.563]

Silver sulfadiazine is dissolved in dilute hydrochloric acid and determined by titration with sodium nitrite solution (assay of the primary aromatic amine function). The endpoint detection is commonly biamperometric (27). [Pg.568]
