Some tests

This paper describes the result obtained in a study of AFCEN (French Society for Design and Construction Rules for Nuclear Island Components) in order to characterize dye penetrant product family, based on experimental test methods of french standards NFA 09.520 and NFA 09.521. In particular, sensitivity tests have been carried out on artificial defects, and correlated with tests on real defects. Some tests on penetrant washability have also been performed. The results obtained with these three series of tests show that the choiee of a dye penetrant product family is not without influency on results obtained, and that is not so simple to make the good choice which could, in certain cases, be the less bad compromise. [Pg.621]

Interest ia the toxicity of aldehydes has focused primarily on specific compounds, particularly formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acroleia (13). Litde evidence exists to suggest that occupational levels of exposure to aldehydes would result ia mutations, although some aldehydes are clearly mutagenic ia some test systems. There are, however, acute effects of aldehydes. [Pg.473]

Other important properties that can be measured in the laboratory include sealabiHty, printabiHty, or coating adhesion. Many of these tests have been developed by the film manufacturer in cooperation with customers and are specifically designed to measure product performance in the end use. Some tests, like sealabiHty, can be standardi2ed to time, pressure, and temperature of sealing with instmment-measured peel values, but other tests are subjective, such as evaluations of printing loss to puUoff by adhesive tape. [Pg.374]

Bursting tests have been carried out on neatly a hundred thick-walled cylinders made of carbon, low alloy, and stainless steels, together with some nonferrous materials. The diameter ratio of the cylinders varied from 1.75 to 5.86, and some tests were carried out at 660°C. An analysis of the results (19) showed that 90% of the cylinders burst within 15% of the value given by equation 17. [Pg.80]

Da.ta. Ana.lysls. First, the raw data must be converted to concentrations over an appropriate time span. When sample periods do not correspond to the averaging time of the exposure limit, some assumptions must be made about unsampled periods. It may be necessary to test the impact of various assumptions on the final decision. Next, some test statistics (confidence limit, etc) (Fig. 3) are calculated and compared to a test criteria to make an inference about a hypotheses. [Pg.109]

There are several methods to determine and compare the resistance to partial discharges. Some tests are done on finished cables, such as the U-bend test, and others are done on laboratory samples molded from the insulation, that are subjected to partial discharges created by sharp objects, such as needles under high voltages. The tests compare either the energy required or the length of time required to erode or fail (short circuit) samples of similar thickness. [Pg.326]

Some tests indicate that magnesium alloys are resistant to loam sod. However, in the presence of chlorides, corrosive attack may be serious particularly if galvanic couples are present as a result of coupling to iron stmctures. [Pg.334]

Some tests, while undergoing deformation, are usually referred to as static in that they are performed at slow speeds or low cycles. Examples of these tests are stretch modulus, ultimate tensile, and elongation to break, ie, a measure of total energy capabiUties or mpture phenomena. [Pg.251]

Some tests of the AO AC (309,310) are Hsted in Table 10. The phenol coefficient test employs three test organisms and a standard concentration of... [Pg.138]

Test This is the position of the trolley when the power contacts are isolated but the control circuit is still connected, because it is tapped directly from Ihe auxiliary bus. This condition is essential to facilitate testing of control circuits with functional interlocks, without energizing the connected lotid. Isolation This is the position of the trolley when the power and the control circuits are both isolated. Depending upon the site requirements, sometimes the control circuit may be required to be still energized for some test requirements. [Pg.377]

Standard sampling trains are specified for some tests. One of these standards is the system specified for large, stationary combustion sources (4). This train was designed for sampling combustion sources and should not be selected over a simpler sampling train when sampling noncombustion sources such as low-temperature effluents from cyclones, baghouses, filters, etc. (5). [Pg.543]

The glass-fibre nylons have a resistance to creep at least three times as great as unfilled polymers. In the case of impact strength the situation is complex since unfilled nylons tend to break showing tough fracture whereas the filled polymers break with a brittle fracture. On the other hand the glass-filled polymers are less notch sensitive and in some tests and service conditions the glass-filled nylons may prove the more satisfactory. [Pg.498]

Thus, three reciprocal relations must be satisfied for an orthotropic material. Moreover, only 2, V13, and V23 need be further considered because V21, V31, and V32 can be expressed in terms of the first-mentioned group of Poisson s ratios and the Young s moduli. The latter group of Poisson s ratios should not be forgotten, however, because for some tests they are what is actually measured. [Pg.65]

Unauthorized interference with computer hardware is usually difficult, but interference with peripheral equipment may be more serious than on a traditional plant, as the computer will not know that interference has occurred. For example, the leads on a limit switch on a valve were interchanged to carry out some tests. The plant was on manual control at the time but was switched back to computer control before the leads were restored to their coirect positions. The computer thought the valve was open (when it was shut) and elected to close it. It actually opened it, releasing flammable material [2]. [Pg.362]

The German Federal Institute for Material Testing (BAM) carried out full-scale fire tests on commercial liquefied-propane storage tanks. Tank volume was 4.85 m in each test (Schoen et al. 1989 Droste and Schoen 1988 Schulz-Forberg et al. 1984). Unprotected and protected tanks filled with propane (50% filled) were exposed to a fire. In some tests, the propane was preheated. [Pg.165]

Three different commercial formulations of silicone sealants from Dow Corning was used in the NSF sponsored studies. They were DC-790, DC-995, and DC-983, in the order of increasing modulus. Dumbbell test coupons (samples) were prepared as per the ASTM standards. Some test coupons were maintained at ambient conditions as control and the rest were subjected to simulated weathering. The weathered coupons were removed from the test layout at regular intervals of time and were tested for any changes in crosslink density due to exposure. [Pg.30]

See Reference [16] ACy, Dry Gas Manual. Some tests indicate that this method is one of the most reliable above a fixed Reynolds number. [Pg.121]

Phosphoric acid The austenitic grades are resistant to all strengths up to 80°C but are limited to 30-40% concentration at boiling point, the molybdenum-bearing types having the best corrosion resistance. Some test data for various types is shown in Fig. 3.28. Industrially, this acid is often encountered in an impure state with appreciable amounts of sulphuric and hydrofluoric acid present so that process testing is likely to be particularly necessary. The super-austenitic steels have enhanced resistance to phosphoric acid solutions. [Pg.549]

The theoretical aspects of molybdenum s corrosion behaviour are complex and there is as yet no clear cut, generally applicable picture. There are, however, a large number of literature references which include data on polarisation, passivation and potential of molybdenum under widely assorted conditions. The electrode potential of molybdenum depends on its surface condition. For example, some tests showed an of -t-0-66V when the molybdenum was passivated by treatment with concentrated chromic acid and —0-74 V after activation by cathodic treatment in sodium hydroxide. [Pg.841]

Typically, the collected condensed steam should have a temperature of below 90 to 100 °F (approx. 32-38 °C) and for some tests, ideally it should be 77 °F (25 °C). [Pg.600]

The effectiveness of incineration has most commonly been estimated from the heating value of the fuel, a parameter that has little to do with the rate or mechanism of destraction. Alternative ways to assess the effectiveness of incineration destraction of various constituents of a hazardous waste stream have been proposed, such as assessment methods based on the kinetics of thermal decomposition of the constituents or on the susceptibility of individual constituents to free-radical attack. Laboratory studies of waste incineration have demonstrated that no single ranking procedure is appropriate for all incinerator conditions. For example, acceptably low levels of some test compounds, such as methylene chloride, have proved difficult to achieve because these compounds are formed in the flame from other chemical species. [Pg.134]
