Phosphoric acid The austenitic grades are resistant to all strengths up to 80°C but are limited to 30-40% concentration at boiling point, the molybdenum-bearing types having the best corrosion resistance. Some test data for various types is shown in Fig. 3.28. Industrially, this acid is often encountered in an impure state with appreciable amounts of sulphuric and hydrofluoric acid present so that process testing is likely to be particularly necessary. The super-austenitic steels have enhanced resistance to phosphoric acid solutions. 

Some test data are shown in Table 3.2 where alumina is compared to PTFE and stainless steel 316. Since corrosion is predominantly initiated at the fluid-solid interfaee, it seems plausible to compare the corrosion results on a per unit surface area basis. Let us use an example to illustrate how the ANOVA calculations are performed on some test data. A chemist wishes to evaluate four different extraction procedures that can be used to determine an organic compound in river water (the quantitative determination is obtained using ultraviolet [UV] absorbance spectroscopy). To achieve this goal, the analyst will prepare a test solution of the organic compound in river water and will perform each of the four different extraction procedures in replicate. The TDF drum filter was developed at Krauss Maffei and the product is a fairly conventional dmm filter housed in a vertical pressure vessel. Due to inaccurate and contradictory results, care should be exercised when applying the existing minimum transport models to the design or optimisation of dilute-phase systems. Some test data should be used to confirm optimal operating conditions and any deposition effects. 

While some of these questions may involve some detailed testing and analysis, most resin suppliers will publish some test data of the affect of chemical exposme on some basic material properties, such as stiffness, tensile strength, etc. They will also publish guidelines on whether a given material is suitable for use with, not suitable for use with, or slightly affected hy various common chemicals.
