Software requirements

Software reqrrirements are the subset of the computer system reqttirements that will rtitimately be implemented as computer programs. All computer system [Pg.40]

Preparing the software reqnirements is a process that is closely tied to designing the computer system. The software requirements describe what the software component must do in order that, when that software is executed on the chosen set of computers with associated peripherals, the overall system requirements are met. In the design of the compnter system, functionahty may be allocated in different ways between software and hardware to achieve an appropriate balance between such concerns as performance, cost, size, simphcity and compatibility. This will determine what the software reqnirements or hardware requirements will be. Specifiers should also be aware of the capabilities of the computers, tools and similar existing systems so that it is feasible to fulfil the software requirements in the software design and the software implementation. [Pg.41]

The software requirements provide a link between the system level and the computer capabilities. As such, they should be understandable both in terms of processes in the external environment and as operations provided by the computer code. [Pg.41]

The software requirements should include the description of the allocation of system requirements to software, with attention to safety requirements and potential [Pg.41]

The software reqrrirements shoirld be analysed for ambiguities, inconsistencies and undefined conditions deficiencies shonld be identified, clarified and corrected. The software requirements shoirld be verifiable and consistent. The functional requirements should be stated in mathematical terms where possible. Non-fimctional software requirements, such as minimum precision and accnracy, time behavionr, independence of execution threads and fail-safe behavionr, shonld also be stated exphcitly and, whenever required, in quantitative terms. [Pg.42]

Changing the DSP software requires only one floppy disk. [Pg.279]

The software for the PC-based algorithm evaluating the effect of varying TI on unavailability is transferable by PC disk. The software required to support the analysis is Lotus 1-2-3. One hypothetical set of parameters for the model is included on the disk. [Pg.97]

These are a few of the mechanical factors that have much more effect on the electronic design of motion control systems. The electronic engineer must understand the mechanics of motion that are encountered in order for the electronic system to be successful. To decide on electronic and software requirements, it is important factors have to be considered such as product flow and throughput, operator requirements, and maintenance issues. [Pg.634]

Consider Equations (6-10) that represent the CVD reactor problem. This is a boundary value problem in which the dependent variables are velocities (u,V,W), temperature T, and mass fractions Y. The mathematical software is a stand-alone boundary value solver whose first application was to compute the structure of premixed flames.Subsequently, we have applied it to the simulation of well stirred reactors, and now chemical vapor deposition reactors. The user interface to the mathematical software requires that, given an estimate of the dependent variable vector, the user can return the residuals of the governing equations. That is, for arbitrary values of velocity, temperature, and mass fraction, by how much do the left hand sides of Equations (6-10) differ from zero ... [Pg.348]

The software required was based on a flow diagram of the program for digital control and a flow chart of the program for processing the polarographic data. [Pg.332]

The resonance frequency of fluorine-19 lies close to that of the proton, so that the same measuring channel is used to observe it. 19F spectra with proton decoupling or proton spectra with 19F decoupling thus have special hard- and software requirements. [Pg.62]

We can also trace the software requirements back through the assembly (or refinement) links up to the business goals print materials is part of run course, which is part of teach. [Pg.41]

Consider the operations of a service company that markets and delivers seminars. Different aspects of this business, and hence its software requirements, can be described separately allocation of instructors and facilities to a seminar, on-time production of seminar materials for delivery, trend analysis for targeted marketing of seminars, invoicing and accounts receivable, and so on. [Pg.490]

The resulting business model acts as the central glossary of terms for all projects associated with it business engineering, software requirements, and so on. [Pg.571]

The intent is to reduce misunderstandings between colleagues about the terms and parameters of the business. Making some of these business rules explicit and precise aids identification of software requirements (which parts of the rales are dealt with by which component, which by users), type models (the models provide the vocabulary that helps specify the rales), traceability from software to business, and enterprise-level knowledge management (explicit representation of business knowledge and rales). [Pg.572]

For any application, the software used for model deployment is quite different than the software used for model development. This is because deployment software has a very different function, and thus very different reqnirements, than development software. Whereas development software requires flexibility and nser-friendliness, deployment software requires long-term stability, reliability, and accessibility to critical on-line data. The following are questions that reflect some conunon deployment software issues in a PAT project ... [Pg.432]

Because of browser incompatibility, at this time Macintosh users are iimited to using Netscape, versions 4.5-4.73. Please read the hardware and software requirements and foliow the instructions for plugin installation prior to Attempting searches at the website. [Pg.137]

To build a calibration model, the software requires the concentration and spectral data, preprocessing options, the maximum rank (number of factors) to estimate, and the approach to use to choose the optimal number of factors to include in the model. This last option usually involves selection of the cross- i alidation technique or the use of a separate validation set. The maximum... [Pg.147]

The software requires the following information the concentration and spectral data, the preprocessing selections, the maximum number of factors to estimate, and the validation approach used to choose the optimal number of factors. The maximum rank selected is 10 for constructing the model to predict the caustic concentration. The validation technique is leave-one-out cross-validation where an entire design point is left out. Tliat is, there are 12 cross validation steps and all spectra for each standard (at various temperatures) are left out of the model building phase at each step. [Pg.341]

The software required for the quantitative evaluation and wavelength normalisation of Laue data has been successfully developed at Daresbury since the feasibility of recording full white beam Laue patterns from protein crystals was established. The software and the method have been tested using Laue data from crystals of pea lectin. As an example of the statistical quality (to 3 A resolution) the mean fractional change on F between monochromatic and Laue pea lectin data was 11 % and the same quantity between conventional source monochromatic and SR monochromatic pea lectin data is 8% (Helliwell et al., 1986). [Pg.50]

Laboratories utilizing automated data collection systems must provide such control of those systems that current and future system performance can be assured and that data integrity can be maintained. Consistent, accurate, and reliable system performance depends on the control of laboratory facilities and equipment requirements, as well as software requirements. Functional testing, a requirement for both equipment and software, and source code review of software are also required to provide control of system performance. [Pg.152]

However, not all reactive intermediates are kind enough to provide spectroscopic signatures that allow their immediate and unambiguous identification, and it is therefore often necessary to compare those signatures to ones obtained by means of modeling calculations (the reader may note that with this we leave the realm of forensic analogy that we have perhaps already stretched too far). In fact, many recent matrix isolation studies owe their success to the tremendous advances in the field of computational chemistry, and to the increased availability of the hard- and software required to carry out such calculations. This simation provides an opportunity for much creative work in the field of reactive intermediates, but it also implies an obligation on the part of those who use such methods to apply them with due care and circumspection. [Pg.839]

One interesting scheme based on density functional theory (DFT) is particularly appealing, because with the current power of the available computational facilities it enables the study of reasonably extended systems. DFT has been applied with a variety of basis sets (atomic orbitals or plane-waves) and potential formulations (all-electron or pseudopotentials) to complex nu-cleobase assemblies, including model systems [90-92] and realistic structures [58, 93-95]. DFT [96-98] is in principle an ab initio approach, as well as MP2//HF. However, its implementation in manageable software requires some approximations. The most drastic of all the approximations concerns the exchange-correlation (xc) contribution to the total DFT functional. [Pg.205]

Many government and commercial impairment testing systems can be implemented on standard commercially available personal computer platforms (e.g., PC, Macintosh). Despite software and hardware advancements that have minimized the differences across platforms, it is still important to consider carefully the hardware and software requirements needed to support a system, as these specifications may have important implications for the accuracy of stimulus presentation and the precision of performance measures. In addition, there may be differential costs associated with the hardware and software specifications. The speed of the computer processor is one important specification that requires careful consideration. Other concerns include the amount of memory that is needed to present the test and record the results, the manner in which the data are to be stored, the size and portability of the computer, and the video-display requirements. Some systems... [Pg.104]
