As with textiles the principal reasons for the coloring paper are for aesthetic appearance and utihtarian purposes. Aesthetic appearance includes colored background for printed material, colored writing papers, colored household products to harmonize with interior decor, and many other diverse uses dictated by individual tastes. Utihtarian purposes include identification of multicopy forms, identification of manufacturer or marketer of specific materials or products, opaqueness or hiding power of packaged material, or to control consistency of paper manufactured from various colored raw materials.

Several methods of educating practitioners and patients have been developed, including use of printed materials, lectures or symposia, and one-on-one discussions. Table 9-4 gives the capital costs for six ammonia plants that were built between 1959 and 1969. When plant no. 5 is compared with the three other plants that have a capacity of 1,000 tons/day, it appears that its reported cost is in error. This could be a misprint, or the plant might be producing urea, nitric acid, and/or ammonium nitrate as well as ammonia. This review will highlight the interrelationships between basic photopolymer science and practical applications of this technology. Each application of photopolymer technology can be described in terms of three primary descriptors the mode of exposure, the mechanism of the photopolymer reaction employed and the visualization method used. Using this foundation, the widely diverse applications of photopolymer technology to electronic materials, printing materials, optical and electro-optical materials, the fabrication of devices and polymeric materials, adhesives and coating materials will be discussed. 

Printing Materials. The application of photopolymer technology to a wide variety of imaging applications in the printing industry is a quite important. Most printing plates and pre-press proofing products used today are based on, or utilize some element of, photopolymer chemistry.

It was updated and enlarged twice, in 2002 and 2004, by incorporating new and revised chapters.
