Hydraulic systems industrial applications

Hydrostatic drives allow for selection of any travel speed up to the maximum without a concurrent variance in engine speed. The engine can be operated at the governed speed to provide proper operating speeds for auxiliary elements, eg, the threshing section of a combine. A frill range of travel speeds is available to adjust to terrain or crop conditions. Industrial applications for hydraulic systems and hydrostatic transmissions include the following (16) ... [Pg.271]

Industrial applications include pipe seals, hydraulic system seals, dampers for machinery and high speed printers, and motor lead wine insulation. [Pg.500]

In nearly all mechanical power applications in the oil and gas industry it is necessary to transmit the power generated by a prime mover to an operation (e.g., drawworks of a drilling rig, or a production pumping system). The transmission of rotary power to such operation elements is carried out by a power transmission system. Mechanical power transmission is typically carried out by power betting systems, chain systems, gear systems and by hydraulic systems, or some combination of these three [1,5]. [Pg.420]

Over the years the performance standards of hydraulic equipment have risen. Whereas a pressure of about 1000 psi used to be adequate for industrial hydraulic systems, nowadays systems operating with pressures of 2000-3500psi are common. Pressures above 5000psi are to be found in applications such as large presses for which suitable high-pressure pumps have been developed. Additionally, systems have to provide increased power densities, more accurate response, better reliability and increased safety. Their use in numerically controlled machine tools and other advanced control systems creates the need for enhanced filtration. Full flow filters as fine as 1-10 micron retention capabilities are now to be found in many hydraulic systems. [Pg.862]

With the trend toward higher pressures in hydraulic systems, the loads on unbalanced pump and motor components become greater and this, coupled with the need for closer fits to contain the higher pressures, can introduce acute lubrication problems. Pumps, one of the main centers of wear, can be made smaller if they can run at higher speeds or higher pressures, but this is only possible with adequate lubrication. For this reason, a fluid with good lubrication properties is used so that hydraulics is now almost synonymous with oil hydraulics in general industrial applications. Mineral oils are inexpensive and readily obtainable while their viscosity can be matched to a particular job. [Pg.862]

Polyalphaolefin Hydraulic Fluids. Polyalphaolefm hydraulic fluids have properties comparable to the most effective components in mineral oil and are used in applications identical to mineral oil hydraulic fluids (Chrisope and Landry 1993 Papay 1993 Shubkin 1993 Wills 1980). Polyalphaolefins are more expensive than mineral oil, and this may limit their use in industry. In addition, polyalphaolefin hydraulic fluids are used in military applications such as aircraft and missile hydraulic systems, tank recoil and hydraulic systems, and aerospace test stands (Shubkin 1993). [Pg.289]

Modifed PTFE can be used in practically all applications, where the conventional polymer is used. In addition to that, new applications are possible because of its improved flow and overall performance. In the chemical process industry, it is used for equipment linings, seals, gaskets, and other parts, where its improved resistance to creep is an asset. In semiconductor manufacturing, modified PTFE is used in fluid handling components and in wafer processing components. Typical applications in electrical and electronic industries are connectors and capacitor films. Other applications are in unlubricated bearings, laboratory equipment, seal rings for hydraulic systems, and antistick components.103... [Pg.159]

On the basis of the concepts developed in the former sections, the latter section showed a series of design problems. The used approach can also be interesting for problems like system architecture synthesis and comparison [28], parameter synthesis [16], equilibrium or steady-state position determination [4], or the coupling of model inversion with dynamic optimization [24, 26, 27, 32], Finally, the approach was used in the domain of active systems [31], in industrial applications like in aeronautics for electro-hydraulic actuators [17] or in automotive for electric power steering and suspension systems [29, 30], and for classic and hybrid power trains [3,28]. [Pg.223]

Industrial applications include pipe seals, hydraulic system seals, dampers for machinery and high speed printers, and motor lead wire insulation. The fact that the polymer contains no halogens along with certain unique compoimding techniques for flame resistance prompts the selection of ethylene-acrylic as jacketing material on certain transportation/military electrical cables, and in floor tiles. [Pg.2950]

Of this family of products, triaryl phosphates (TAP) and alkyl diaryl phosphates (ADP) are the two important categories of FR plasticizers for PVC. Trialkyl phosphates are considered too volatile for most vinyl processes, and are more commonly found in other applications, such as leveling agents or antifoam additives. In vinyl, TAP and ADP plasticizers are used to flame-retard thin films and laminates for articles such as wall covering, tarpaulins (transportation), and vinyl-coated furniture fabric. Another major application area is in vinyl for electrical insulation in wire and cable. In addition to these applications, phosphate esters are used as functional fluids for hydraulic equipment (metal industries, power generation, and aircraft hydraulic systems) and as additives in formulated lubricant systems. As flexible vinyl composites are usually defined by their additives, when formulated correctly, phosphate esters can help produce a very cost-efficient vinyl composite capable of very low smoke and flammabihty. In nearly all markets, phosphate esters are valued primarily for their FR properties, and the distinction from function and plasticization is sometimes obscured. [Pg.289]
