Hazard sources

Occurrence. Carbon monoxide is a product of incomplete combustion and is not likely to result where a flame bums in an abundant air supply, yet may result when a flame touches a cooler surface than the ignition temperature of the gas. Gas or coal heaters in the home and gas space heaters in industry have been frequent sources of carbon monoxide poisoning when not provided with effective vents. Gas heaters, though properly adjusted when installed, may become hazardous sources of carbon monoxide if maintained improperly. Automobile exhaust gas is perhaps the most familiar source of carbon monoxide exposure. The manufacture and use of synthesis gas, calcium carbide manufacture, distillation of coal or wood, combustion operations, heat treatment of metals, fire fighting, mining, and cigarette smoking represent additional sources of carbon monoxide exposure (105—107). [Pg.59]

Appendix B further describes suggested steps that employers can take when conducting a hazard assessment. According to the Appendix, a survey should include observations of employees and their relation to injury or illness that can occur from work areas where eye, face, head, foot, or hand protection may be necessary to prevent injury from any of the following hazard sources ... [Pg.125]

Heating of houses with wood, charcoal or mazut also results in formation of trace amounts of dioxins. Hazardous source of PCDD and PCDF constitutes the combustion of engine oil and gasoline with chlorine- or bromine-organic additives. Over the long period of time, pesticides containing dioxins (2,4,5-T, copper trichlorophenolate etc.) [4] were used in agriculture. [Pg.86]

Formaldehyde (HCHO) is a colorless gas with a pungent odor. Formaldehyde has found wide industrial usage as a fungicide and germicide, and in disinfectants and embalming fluids. The serious sources of indoor airborne formaldehyde are furnimre, floor underlayment insulation, and environmental tobacco smoke. Urea formaldehyde (UF) is mixed with adhesives to bond veneers, particles, and fibers. It has been identified as a potential hazardous source. [Pg.73]

Industrial-type Hazards—-with the objective of identifying hazard sources in electrical, mechanical, illumination, and non-emergency communication fields. Developments have included (a) advanced remote surveillance and communication systems, (hi portable-area illumination systems. Ic) trolley-phone wireless systems, and (d) protective canopies for use on underground low-coal machines. [Pg.400]

The flaws and frailties of the system and the capabilities and motivations of the possible malicious attackers are only partially known statistical data and evidence will be sparse—this is not a typical reliability case where probabilities can be computed and applied, or a standard risk management case where hazard sources and their potential are well determined. [Pg.67]

Those data formed a basis for subsequent analysis of hazard sources, the bottlenecks and problem issues typical for the current situation with radiation-hazardous facilities in the North-Western Russia. [Pg.19]

Regulatory Standards. Authoritative database sources for regulatory standards are, like toxic hazard sources, easy to come by. Both the federal and state governments provide published versions of such standards that are reliable sources for database entry. The key issue for these databases is checking for accurate entry, and periodic review for currency. [Pg.192]

The aim is to list the most important possibilities for hazards from the process and the hazard sources of the chemical plant, to formulate the tasks for the basic safety concept, and to determine whether individual safety problems must be investigated. Furthermore, it must be shown that the chosen site is suitable from the viewpoint of safety technology. The results are recorded in a safety study (basic design phase), which can have the following components ... [Pg.319]

It is important to comprehend the breadth and nature of occupational hazard exposures. To do this we can classify workplace hazard sources into broad categories that help us to understand their nature and potentii controls. These are ... [Pg.1168]

In defining hazardous work practices, there are a number of sources of information that should be examined. Injury and accident reports such as the OSHA 301 Form provide information about the circumstances surrounding an injury. Often employee or management behaviors that contributed to the injury can be identified. Employees are a good source of information about workplace hazards. They can be asked to identify critical behaviors that may be important as hazard sources or hazard controls. First-line supervisors are also a good source of information because they are constantly... [Pg.1181]

That a set of characteristics for identification of mine water hazard source are selected by immune algorithm is proposed in this paper. This group of characteristics is few, and the classification ability is strong. With this group of characteristics, the accuracy rate of the recognition of mine water is high. In this paper, the quantitative weight represents the importance of characteristics. [Pg.180]

MODEL OF IDENTIFICATION OF MINE WATER HAZARD SOURCE BASED ON AI-BPNN... [Pg.183]

The mine water hazard source identification data are pretreated by Immune Algorithm (lA), to extract the main characteristics associated with the water source identification. The processed data are classified and recognized with the BPNN. The specific steps of recognition of the water source are as follows ... [Pg.183]

The platform should support automatic, semi-automatic and manual matching of data collection methods. For enterprises with comprehensive data acquisition conditions, support automatic monitoring system installed in workplaces, automatically obtain the relevant occupational hazard data, and real-time, reliable, convenient transmitted to the monitoring center, connect to the network server to receive and enter the occupational hazards regulatory information the database server of the system to achieve real-time monitoring of the occupational hazards source-to-multipoint (occupational hazard source monitoring points) state parameters (central station). With some data collection capabiUties but can not work on-site networked enterprise, support for portable mobile device to import data enterprises do not have the data acquisition conditions, you can use the manual entry of data collected system data. [Pg.1177]

Major accidents occurring despite preventative measures ( Dennoch Storfaiie ) stem from a progression of operational malfunctions which cause a serious danger despite the existence of accident preventing measures. They result from hazard sources which can reasonably be discarded or from the simultaneous impact of several independent sources of hazards. In order to hmit the consequences of such accidents plant specific measures and specific measures of hazard defence have to be taken. [Pg.119]

Exceptional major accidents ( exzeptionelle Storfaiie ) are caused by hazard sources which are beyond any experience and predictability. No specific additional plan-related measures have to be taken against this class of accidents. Among this type of accidents figure, for example, accidents which may arise from war or civil war situations or events. [Pg.119]

According to [8] the operator of a plant does not only have to make provisions against plant internal hazard sources but also against external ones (literally in Germany environmentally caused hazard sources). This concerns impacts from outside the establishment (and hence on the plant) which may jeopardize the function of safety-relevant parts of the plant [27]. Such impacts may originate from ... [Pg.137]

In order to calculate the collective, population or societal risk we assume an average population density of pB = 1,200 km (Ruhr area). It is further assumed that the residential area gets as close as a = 30 m to the hazard source (pipeline and station). For simplicity s sake we conservatively suppose that the population is permanently present. [Pg.585]
