Monitoring real-time

The industrial application of the sensor technologies described earlier (Chapter 3) is the basis for real-time monitoring of processing of reactive polymers. The critical parameters to be monitored may be seen from an examination of the chemorheological process-control equations described in the previous sections  [Pg.426]

The changes in these parameters within the liquid polymer can be compared with the values predicted by the particular chemorheological equation to determine whether the process is operating within specifications. The particular challenge in process operations compared with laboratory and model studies is the decision regarding where to place the sensors and how to use the information as a decision-making tool. [Pg.426]

There are several advantages of the use of HPLC for process monitoring. First, HPLC provides both qualitative and quantitative information about a process. At the research or pilot reactor stage of development, real time monitoring increases research efficiency and provides the data for process optimization. Second, because HPLC permits continuous real-time monitoring of reactors or other process components, process upsets that might go... [Pg.74]

IR absorption bands are sensitive to the local environment and therefore a spectral shift may occur when an additive is extracted from the polymer. This allows real-time monitoring of the extraction process in situ, as illustrated by Howdle et al. [126] using an organometallic complex. On the other hand,... [Pg.318]
