Hands, protection

Health and Safety. The dermal toxicology of alkaline solutions of thioglycolic acid has been reviewed extensively (63—65). The reagent has been found harmless to normal skin when used under conditions adopted for cold waving. Some irritation is observed on abraded skin but this appears to be associated with the alkaline component of the waving solution (65). Hand protection is recommended for the professional hairdressers who routinely handle these products. [Pg.459]

For the above scales, eye protection should be worn and work should be undertaken in a standard fume-cupboard behind a well-anchored polycarbonate screen. It is advisable to wear a protective apron and hand protection whether leather gauntlets or tongs should be used will be dictated by circumstances. Such measures are recommended but it should be ensured that they do not precipitate a hazard as a result of loss of tactile sensitivity (e.g. dropping a flask, overtightening clamps, exerting excessive pressure when assembling apparatus). The material of gloves needs consideration. (PVC but not rubber is suitable for tert-butyl peroxide.)... [Pg.245]

The new standard amended 29 Code of Eederal Regulations (CER) to include general requirements (29 CER 1910.132), eye and face protection (29 CER 1910.133), head protection (29 CER 1910.135), and foot protection (29 CER 1910.136). A new regulation (29 CER 1910.138) applied to hand protection. These changes are significant because they mandated employers to conduct a hazard assessment of the workplace to decide if hazards in the operation required the use of PPE. [Pg.124]

Appendix B further describes suggested steps that employers can take when conducting a hazard assessment. According to the Appendix, a survey should include observations of employees and their relation to injury or illness that can occur from work areas where eye, face, head, foot, or hand protection may be necessary to prevent injury from any of the following hazard sources ... [Pg.125]

The new hand protection standard resulted from OSHA s belief that many hand injuries result from not wearing hand protection or wearing protection for the wrong type of hazards. Employers should evaluate and provide hand protection when there are hazards to hands from absorption of harmful substances, severe cuts or lacerations, severe abrasions, punctures, chemical burns, thermal burns, and harmful temperature extremes. [Pg.127]

Gloves, Conductive. The expl industry has been looking for a long time for a glove that would provide al-in-one comfort, hand protection and safery against static electricity. [Pg.723]

Caution. Fe(CO)s is a toxic liquid and should be handled with hands protected by gloves in a well-ventilated hood. [Pg.204]

The foil was fixed on the substrate with cyanoacrylate adhesive, and then the wafer on the foil. Finally the gold layer of the detector was covered with a 10ym thick copper, both ends of which were fixed on the sides of the substrate. The copper foil conducts the current from the detector to the ground and, on the other hand, protects the detector from the scattered beam and low energy delta-rays from the target. Five detectors are assembled on an aluninum holder The annular detector is fastened with two screws by the back of the substrate and the four plain others are put upright arround the annular detectors. [Pg.491]

It may be necessary to insert glass tubing into bungs or corks, or make rubber-to-glass hose connections. In these cases, tubing should be fire-polished and lubricated, and appropriate hand protection should be worn. [Pg.510]

On the other hand, protecting groups can be used to thwart heteroatom-assisted delivery. Reaction of the a,f -unsaturated sulfone 51.1 with trimethylsilylethynyl-lithium resulted in intramolecular delivery of the nucleophile to afford adduct 51.2 with a dr = 100 1 [Scheme 1.51].88 When the hydroxy group was protected as its trivnethylsilyl ether, conjugate addition took place from the opposite face to give the diastereoisomeric adduct 51.4, again with a dr = 100 l. [Pg.41]
