Several state governments have also passed laws regulating and controlling lasers. Provisions of the laws vary greatly from state to state. [Pg.12]

If the requirements of Section 1038 of the Act are fuUy implemented, it is estimated that 70 million tires would be required on an annual basis. If states found reason to exceed the law s minimum use of scrap tire-derived ground mbber in asphalt paving and use more on federal aid constmction, or if local, county, and state governments and private parties started using mbber-modified asphalt in nonfederal aid constmction, the totals could go much higher. [Pg.15]

The NRC also imposes special security requirements for spent fuel shipments and transport of highly enriched uranium or plutonium materials that can be used in the manufacture of nuclear weapons. These security measures include route evaluation, escort personnel and vehicles, communications capabiHties, and emergency plans. State governments are notified in advance of any planned shipment within their state of spent fuel, or any other radioactive materials requiring shipment in accident-proof. The recognition in 1940 that deuterium as heavy water [7789-20-0] has nuclear properties that make it a highly desirable moderator and coolant for nuclear reactors (qv) (8,9) fueled by uranium (qv) of natural isotopic composition stimulated the development of industrial processes for the manufacture of heavy water. The Safe Drinking Water Act protects the quality of drinking water in the IJ.S. This law focu.ses on all waters actually or potentially designated for drinking use, whether above or below ground. Secondly, stmctural features in dmg regulation in countries operating a federal system of government affect the ability of the DRA to monitor dmg distribution throughout the entire country. In Australia, authority over distribution channels is fully delegated to the individual states. As a result, the TGA does not have the authority to assess and control the dmg distribution situation for the whole country. In contrast, the Pharmaceutical Services Division in Malaysia appoints a deputy director of health in each of its 13 states with power to issue licences, carry out inspections and submit reports. Under this arrangement, command and control may be exercised and an official channel established for information flow between the federal and state governments. [Pg.121]

The Internet, for many professionals, has become a favorite, convenient source for free information. The Internet is a vehicle to access a diverse array of information sources, including federal and state government documents and regulations, statements, opinions and guidelines from associations and organizations, and pharmaceutical industry documents. While the Internet is indeed powerful, it is a retrieval mechanism and the WWW site itself is the resource to be considered for relevance to the current search. The convenience of WWW resources can be quickly overshadowed by the time invested in the search and following linkages. [Pg.786]
