Door applications

Another class of organotin heat stabilizers is the sulphur-free estertins or organotin carboxylates like dibutyltin maleate. Estertins work especially well in out-door applications like transparent and translucent double-walled panels for greenhouses, sidings, and window profiles. [Pg.129]

Thus, in addition to cheap large units for the production of electric grid power, DSSCs can find large in-door applications for powering different electronic equipments like calculators, external memory devices, and liquid crystal displays, and so... [Pg.362]

Construction activities with building in recent years are mostly for both new residential and related repair/maintenance applications for the old, and these are much higher than for their civil engineering and non-residential uses, especially in the EU. There is a very big increasing trend in window and door applications in these cormtries (and, in addition, especially in China) and for this, PVC is expected to be the dominating plastic. After the first applications of smart windows in glazing, it is expected that the demand for this will be more towards the use of PC, rather than acrylics. [Pg.24]

Plastics usually contain stabilizers that must protect the polymer during melt processing. They also contribute to the service life time of the finished article upon exposure (especially for out-door applications) to light and heat. The stabilizers are partially consumed during the processing and exposure of the plastic parts, thus they must be replaced. The amount of required stabilizer depends on the reprocessing conditions as well as on the envisaged use of recycled polymers. It must be noted that the stabilizers transformation products remain in the plastics. [Pg.75]

Many environmentalists still believe that synthetie polymers eannot biodegrade in the environment. It is certainly true that some plasties may not degrade for a very long time even in sunlight. For example, properly stabiUsed PVC is widely used in out-door applications, such as window fiames which do not biodegrade for many decades, possibly centuries. At the other extreme, the poly(dienes) - for example c/s-poly(isoprene) in the form of latex rubber - biodegrades in a few months in soil (see section 12.2). The polyolefins lie somewhere between PVC and natural rubber. Biodegradable polyethylene (e.g. EPl TDPA ) shows a substantial induction period (IP) at 20 "C, whereas at 60 "C, the IP is very short. In a commercial weatherometer, the IP is even shorter." " ... [Pg.322]

Applications. The principal use for rigid polyurethane foams is for iasulation ia various forms utilized by a variety of iadustries. Lamiaates for resideatial sheatiag (1.2 to 2.5 cm thick with aluminum skins) and roofing board (2.5 to 10.0 cm thick with roofing paper skins) are the leading products with about 45 metric tons of Hquid spray systems also ia use. Metal doors iasulated by a pour-ia-place process coastitute another substantial use. [Pg.419]

A recently introduced polycarbonate-based blend offers a low coefficient of thermal expansion. This new thermoplastic is designed for large sheet applications such as doors or siding. Its high dimensional stability will eliminate warping from exposure to varying temperatures. [Pg.334]

Door and Window Frames and Sashes. The first successflil application of rigid PVC for windows was as a cladding over a wood core to avoid the need for painting and repainting the sash and the exterior of the frame. Since then, extmded profiles of rigid PVC have been developed to allow... [Pg.334]

Explosion doors open in case of an explosion, thereby releasing the vent area. Depending on the application, explosion doors may be selected which remain open or close automatically after releasing the explosion. [Pg.2326]

A substantial part of the market for the ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer is for hot melt adhesives. In injection moulding the material has largely been used in place of plasticised PVC or vulcanised rubber. Amongst applications are turntable mats, base pads for small items of office equipment and power tools, buttons, car door protector strips and for other parts where a soft product of good appearance is required. Cellular cross-linked EVA is used in shoe parts. [Pg.276]

The foams, marketed by Rohm as Rohacell, are stable at room temperature to hydrocarbons, ketones, chlorinated solvents and 10% sulphuric acid. They may be used under load at temperature up to 160°C. Uses quoted for these materials include bus engine covers, aircraft landing gear doors, radar domes, domes, ski cores and tennis racket cores. Their potential is in applications demanding a level of heat deformation resistance, solvent resistance and stiffness not exhibited by more well-known cellular polymers such as expanded polystyrene and the polyurethane foams. [Pg.421]

The large volume applieations for moisture-euring polyurethanes are diseussed briefly in the applieations seetion below. These adhesive offer superior low temperature, high temperature, and speeifie adhesion performanee in comparison to conventional hot melts. These attributes have allowed them to excel in various product assembly applications, including structures such as windows, doors, furniture, and automotive headlamps and trim. Newer applications include bookbinding, fabric laminating, and assembly of athletic shoes. [Pg.735]

Several large applications for one-component moisture-cure urethane adhesives are available. Polymeric MDI is an exceptional binder for wood products, such as oriented strand board and particleboard. One-component urethane windshield adhesives are used almost exclusively in both the OEM and automotive aftermarket. One-part urethane adhesives are used to assemble the sidewalls for recreational vehicles (RV s), manufactured housing, and mobile homes. In construction applications, one-part urethanes are used to bond metal doors, hardwood flooring, panels, and partitions. [Pg.781]

Two-component waterborne urethanes are the preferred choice to replace solvent-borne urethane adhesives, especially in the packaging and shoe industries. At this time, the packaging area is the largest application of two-part waterborne urethanes. Good strides have been made by the two-part waterborne urethanes in the shoe industry, especially in the athletic shoe market. Waterborne urethanes are also replacing the solvent-borne products in the OEM door panels. [Pg.797]

Acrylic adhesives can also be used in automotive assembly. For example, the hem flanges between the inner and outer panel of automotive doors can be bonded with acrylic adhesives [153]. There are many smaller industrial assembly applications where acrylic adhesives are applicable. An interesting recent example is the bonding of cable splice enclosures, using a borane initiated adhesive [154]. [Pg.842]

In recent years a whole new generation of high performance engineering plastics have become commercially available. These offer properties far superior to anything available so far, particularly in regard to high temperature performance, and they open the door to completely new types of application for plastics. [Pg.7]

Among the major applications of ABS are extruded pipes and pipe fittings, appliances such as refrigerator door liners, and in molded automobile bodies. [Pg.336]

Energy can be conserved by operation of plant in such a way as to minimize part loading. Various practices can be adopted that can be described as good housekeeping . In addition to maintenance, this will include such factors as the avoidance of plant operating in the standby mode for long periods, operation at correct temperature, ensuring doors are closed where applicable, etc. [Pg.265]

The application of the tin-nickel coating for out of doors service has been restricted by fear of pore corrosion and of physical damage, and by... [Pg.512]

This is the one example in which metal is not the substrate. Corrosion takes on a new meaning the coating here is required to protect the substrate from direct attack by corrosive substances, from water to more powerful household or industrial chemicals, such as grease, alcohols and bleach. We are concerned with the industrial application of thin protective layers to paper (e.g. labels), card (e.g. playing cards) and many wooden articles, including industrially finished doors, window frames and, particularly, furniture. [Pg.634]

Nylon 11 is applied using a fluidised bed process to a wide variety of substrates including metal chair frames, door furniture and wire dishwasher baskets. It can also be applied by electrostatic spraying, but generally only where the application is decorative and where the metal work is thin, i.e. less than 0.2 mm. [Pg.753]

The frictional properties of plastics are of particular importance to applications in machine products and in sliding applications such as belting and structural units such as sliding doors. The range of friction properties are rather extensive. The relationship between the normal force and the friction force is used to define the coefficient of static friction. [Pg.94]

A different type of low friction or low drag application is encountered with sliding doors or conveyor belts sliding on support surfaces. In applications like this the normal forces are generally quite small and the friction load problems are of the sticking variety. Some plastics exhibit excellent track surfaces for this type of application. TFEs have the lowest coefficient of any solid material and represent one of the most slippery surfaces known. The major problem with TFE is that its abrasion resistance is low so that most of the applications utilize filled compositions with ceramic filler materials to improve the abrasion resistance. [Pg.95]

The maj or pyroelectric applications are those related to infrared sensing such as cooking controls, fire or heat alarms, door openers, etc. Typical materials are LiTa03, PbTi03, andPb(Zr.Ti)03. [Pg.400]

In terms of applications, TPE industries will remain closely linked with the motor vehicle industry. The solid gains forecast for TPEs in this market are due to the development of new products for exterior (e.g., body seal) and interior (e.g., instrument and door panel skins) applications at the expense of EPDM and thermoplastics such as PVC [278]. The new environmental... [Pg.153]
