Several large applications for one-component moisture-cure urethane adhesives are available. Polymeric MDI is an exceptional binder for wood products, such as oriented strand board and particleboard. One-component urethane windshield adhesives are used almost exclusively in both the OEM and automotive aftermarket. One-part urethane adhesives are used to assemble the sidewalls for recreational vehicles (RV s), manufactured housing, and mobile homes. In construction applications, one-part urethanes are used to bond metal doors, hardwood flooring, panels, and partitions. [Pg.781]

You place the globe on an old Oriental carpet covering the hardwood floor of your office. Let s return our attention to hypercubes. Another way to represent a hypercube is to show what it might look like if it was unfolded. You bring out a paper cube that has been taped together and remove some pieces of the tape. By analogy, you can unfold the faces of a paper cube and make it flat (Fig. 4.6). [Pg.91]

When staining and/or sealing a hardwood floor, choose water-based instead of solvent-based products. They can be found in most building stores or ordered specifically at the Environmental Home Center (www.environmentalhomecenter.com). Natural finishes such as tung oil look beautiful and can be coated with beeswax, which needs to be reapplied only around once a year. [Pg.47]

At home, a special room was arranged to give me a possibility for betterment and some recovery. In my survival room only metal and glass were used and there is a hardwood floor. There are no books, no television, and the like. This room is still entirely intact and it also contains my oxygen machine, so that I can recover quickly in this space when something has made me sick. Due to diligent behavior (I had to stay inside for six years, often even wearing a mask) and the necessary support, I eventually reached such stability that nowadays I m able to function somewhat in a safe environment. At home and in the car I use an air purifier, I use a water filter and I eat foods without additives, et cetera. Wherever I go, I need to know for certain ahead of time whether the space is suitable for me or not. Certain chemicals still cause serious symptoms and I can lose consciousness within one to two minutes if I don t leave a toxic area on time. [Pg.94]

New carpets, laminate, parquet, vinyl, and so on are not suitable for MCS patients, because the varnishes, glues, synthetic substances, formaldehyde and other chemical substances can cause severe problems. Gassing out these chemicals can take months if not years. It s therefore best to play it safe and go with materials that are less harmful, such as organically produced cotton. An untreated hardwood floor or other hard floor coverings, like stone, ceramic or porcelain tile, are also good options. Make sure you do not react to the specific wood by first testing a sample thoroughly ... [Pg.140]

Major uses for UV curing (room temperature) include use of flat stock-fillers in particle boards and hardwood flooring, and for high-gloss (no-wax) protective coatings for floor tiles, wood finishes, and other specialty uses. [Pg.1301]

The dislodgeability of a pesticide residue may depend on the condition of the surface. For example, new carpets are typically more stain-resistant and have more uniform piles, and thus they may behave differently than soiled and worn carpets. The presence of excessive moisture levels in carpeting, as may be the case shortly after a wet cleaning operation, may also affect the dislodgeability of residues, possibly yielding higher than normal results. Wax on vinyl and hardwood floors may affect dislodgeability, as may pits, cracks and crevices in the surface. [Pg.93]

Environmentally conscious to a fault, Earth s dining room is a study in modern design. Scrap wood from a recently demolished building was used for their hardwood floors, and recycled medals used to make tiny tables. Halogen lighting, potted fig trees and bowls of goldfish complete the scene. [Pg.120]

Old Wives Tales is indeed a place to spin some tales. The mellow waitstaff invites you to hang up your coat and sit where you please in an airy, sunlit dining room. Maplewood tabletops and hardwood floors give you a sense of the country amid the bustle of Portland s Hawthorne District. Relax in a booth for a long Sunday brunch over a cup of earthy twig tea. [Pg.202]

Poor sound absorbers. Brick surfaces, painted concrete blocks, hardwood floors, gypsum board, or smooth nonporous plaster (lime or gypsum) are all poor absorbers. With solid structural backing these finishes seldom afford as much as 10 percent absorption at any wavelength from 125 hz to 4,000 hz. Ordinary window areas may absorb up to 25 percent of the low-frequency sounds (125 to 250 hz) but much less at the higher frequencies. [Pg.319]

Construction plywood is primarily phenolic bonded for an exterior rating. Decorative plywood is primarily bonded with UF resins for interior applications such as wall panels and hardwood flooring tiles. Both types of plywood are composed of layers of veneer or wood with alternating grain orientations that are bonded with heat and pressure. [Pg.607]

The use of lead as a stabilizer in vinyl has been mentioned as a component in bounce houses. This is also the case for vinyl tile flooring (Main 2013). Lead dust can be released from vinyl tiles over time. Removal of vinyl tiles should be undertaken with lead-safe work practices or they can be covered with linoleum, cork, or hardwood floors. [Pg.238]

We often speak about feeling a sense of warmth from having wood in our homes, from wood-beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, even wood fior-niture. I would argue that much of this is due to the sense of touch. We feel... [Pg.292]
