DIFFERENCE project

The original recycle reactor developed at Union Carbide Corporation in 1962 (Berty et al 1968) was modified or adapted by several people to different projects. Many recycle reactors were also designed by others for... [Pg.61]

In one site, the project team installing a DCS (Distributed Control System) carefully developed and tested techniques to make the displays clear for red-green color blind personnel (see discussion in 6.4). The displays were effective and were applauded by the operators. However, in subsequent DCS installation projects at the same site, different project teams made no provision to make displays visible to red-green color blind personnel. This inherently less safe condition was found during a design review at one unit and at the pre-start-up safety review for another unit. [Pg.112]

The design methodology does not take a position on who does this or that task. That is part of administrative or commercial flow, which varies in different parts of the world and even in different projects in one country. [Pg.17]

Author thanks M.D. Romero-Smchez and C.M. Cepeda-Jimenez for obtaining most of the experimental results included in this chapter. Author also thanks the Spanish Research Agency (MICYT, Ministerio de Educacion y Ciencia) and the Valencian Community Research Agency (Conselleria de Educacion y Ciencia, Generalitad Valenciana) for granting different projects in the improvement of adhesion of rubber. [Pg.771]

It is clear that quantitative predictions of research performance, and models of possible improvements, are not well accepted by research managers. Two major barriers are the uncertainty that exists at early stages of R D and the mix of repetition and variation between different projects. [Pg.260]

Two distinct patterns of repeats were observed by electron microscopy of sectioned, negatively stained, frozen-hyd rated, or freeze-fractured specimens of Ca -ATPase crystals that represent different projections of the same structure... [Pg.75]

DCFRR provides a useful way of comparing the performance of capital for different projects independent of the amount of capital used and the life of the plant, or the actual interest rates prevailing at any time. [Pg.274]

Estimating future emissions is difficult, because it depends on demographic, economic, technological, policy, and institutional developments. Several emissions scenarios have been developed based on differing projections of these underlying factors. For example, by 2100, in the absence of emissions control policies, carbon dioxide concentrations are projected to be 30-150% higher than today s level. [Pg.92]

Overall, there are always considerable uncertainties associated with an economic evaluation. In addition to the errors associated with the estimation of capital and operating costs, the project life or interest rates are not known with any certainty. The important thing is that different projects, and options within projects, are compared on the basis of consistent assumptions. Thus, even though the evaluation will be uncertain in an absolute sense, it will still be meaningful in a relative sense for choosing between options. [Pg.32]

Extraframework cations are needed in anionic zeolites for charge balance, and for several zeolite topologies their locations are well investigated [281, 282]. Different cations have been investigated by solid state NMR in the past with different NMR properties and different project targets. We restrict this section to a tutorial example on sodium cation motion in sodalite and cancrinite structures [283-285], 23Na has a nuclear electric quadrupole moment, and quadrupolar interaction is useful to investigate jump processes, especially when they are well defined. [Pg.217]

The ecosystem acidification and critical load calculation processes are only partly scientific exercises, being connected closely with economic development of all countries. So, in different projects the hazards of concern include ecosystem damage due to acidification and eutrophication processes (e.g., decreased productivity and biodiversity, soil erosion, drinking water quality, reproduction losses, etc.), firstly, in local scale and, secondly, in regional scale that may lead to transboundary pollution. For more details see Figure 2. [Pg.78]

Different projects will use these abstraction techniques differently. Some project teams may work with a simple design that needs little transformation from concepts to code. Others, starting with an existing system and existing procedures for using it, may need to abstract its essentials before devising an updated solution. [Pg.36]

If you take part in a different project that happens to use the term Thingamajig for something in the business, you recognize that you could be using different imports there. And if I write 2+3, you know what I mean because we both import the same package of arithmetic definitions we learned about in school. [Pg.317]

Any model railroad enthusiast will recognize this as a neat kit of parts with which you could build a lot of different projects—many more potential products than the number of components in the box. Note the ease of modifying the first version to realize the second. It s not difficult to imagine such a kit in hardware nor to visualize it in software. The Motor could be a software component controlling a hardware motor the Buttons, Meter, and Selector could be user-interface widgets and the other components could be objects not directly visible to the user. [Pg.429]

In this case study we found it useful to distinguish six descriptions a different project might make a somewhat different separation. The primary separation of domain or business (the outside), system specification (the boundary), and internal architectural and detailed design (the inside) will always hold. The following two features are common to each level. [Pg.549]

For each irreducible representation JW there are different projection operators, so in all there are 2 n — g such operators. As we shall see presently, they are linearly independent, and thus form an alternative basis for the group algebra any element of U can be represented as a linear combination of the... [Pg.10]

Most field equipment used at remediation sites has a lifetime substantially longer than the length of the project where it is used. When the total cost of new equipment is included in the project, the unit treatment cost increases substantially as the time of treatment decreases. Two solutions to this dilemma are common either lease the equipment or use the equipment on several different projects. Both of these options require the equipment to be of some treatment volume rate such that it can be readily applied to another treatment train, and also that it can be portable. If the designer cannot locate lease equipment, or if there is only one project on which to use the equipment, cost calculations should include a salvage value for the equipment. [Pg.345]

This will result in more compact, even if slightly more complex, drawings. Notice, moreover, that different projections of the same structure, taken along different directions, may complete each other for a more comprehensive description. [Pg.626]

The structure of aS-oF128 is shown in Fig. 7.18 the unit cell is represented together with two different projections of the cyclo-octa-sulphur molecule. [Pg.651]

Figure 7.18. The structure of sulphur aS-oF128 (a) The unit cell. The atoms pertaining to the same molecule have been similarly coloured. The content of one unit cell corresponds to 16 S8 molecules. (Notice however that only two of the molecules are fully included in the cell depicted, the others extend into the adjacent cells.) (b) Two different projections of a single molecule, as identified in the structure of aS-oF128, are shown. Figure 7.18. The structure of sulphur aS-oF128 (a) The unit cell. Different projections of these structures are shown here, and a short description is given in the following. [Pg.692]

It is recommended to define an own working directory when working with M on a specific project. The reason is that M optionally saves all objects (data, functions, results, etc.) in the working directory, and there could be confusion if objects from different projects are saved in the same directory. [Pg.320]

Different projects and protein samples have different requirements. The decision as to which gel electrophoresis system to use depends on the needs of each particular project. [Pg.130]

Resilient in temperament, I decided I had done my best and began a different project. I compiled a lengthy review article entitled Electrosleep, Electronarcosis and Electroanesthesia. It won lavish praise from my supervisor. Dr. Robert Galambos. Dr. Rioch liked it as well, but pointed out that the reference material came from confidential Soviet sources and it would be a breach of protocol to publish it. [Pg.19]

Thereby, the features of the a-relaxation observed by different techniques are different projections of the actual structural a-relaxation. Since the glass transition occurs when this relaxation freezes, the investigation of the dynamics of this process is of crucial interest in order to understand the intriguing phenomenon of the glass transition. The only microscopic theory available to date dealing with this transition is the so-called mode coupling theory (MCT) (see, e.g. [95,96,106] and references therein) recently, landscape models (see, e.g. [107-110]) have also been proposed to account for some of its features. [Pg.69]

North-Rhine-Westphalia. Since 2000, 77 million has been allocated to 42 different projects, primarily fuel cells R D. [Pg.136]

Chemical/Metal hydrides. This is an important area in Norway and there is a substantial effort being put into five different projects with different approaches related to using metal hydrides. [Pg.165]
