Existing procedures

The characterization of probe contributes to understanding the probe behaviour and gives the probe features as well. We have illustrated though different examples how to manage to limit the measurements to what is strictly necessary. We think that many things are still to do either to simplify with automatic process system existing procedures or to imagine different tests. 

Not all existing procedures or program elements of the overall health and safety program need to be incorporated into the HASP. For example, if noise is a hazard, the plan does not have to cite the entire hearing conservation program. Procedures already established elsewhere may be referenced, as applicable. In another example, if a confined-space-entry procedure is required, the HASP could reference the particular procedure which is part of the overall program. The next step would be to identify confined spaces at the worksite where the procedure applies, and then provide appropriate implementation procedures (e.g., conditions to be monitored, evaluation of the space, issuance of an entry permit). If special operational procedures apply to the worksite, they can be attached to the HASP using an appendix. 

Compare what you do now with the requirements of ISO/TS 16949 and identify additional procedures and changes to your existing procedures.

For optimization tools linked to procedural models, note that reliable and efficient automatic differentiation tools are available that link to models written, say, in FORTRAN and C, and calculate exact first (and often second) derivatives. Examples of these include ADIFOR, ADOL-C, GRESS, Odyssee, and PADRE. When used with care, these can be applied to existing procedural models and, when linked to modern NLP and MINLP algorithms, can lead to powerful optimization capabilities. Different projects will use these abstraction techniques differently. Some project teams may work with a simple design that needs little transformation from concepts to code. Others, starting with an existing system and existing procedures for using it, may need to abstract its essentials before devising an updated solution. 

Existing procedures, standards documents, software, and user manuals. When these exist, they should be consulted. But keep in mind that procedures as written often do not reflect the actual operations. User manuals for existing systems are a rich source of information. They act as a key input to reverse-engineering an abstract model of a system and therefore of a business. 

Review and revise aii existing procedures to ensure proper format is used for information contained in the procedure (steps, cautions, warnings, notes, etc.) Periodically review existing procedures to determine format errors. No inappropriate steps, cautions, warnings, notes, should be found...

Although palladium-catalyzed processes have also achieved improvements in the field of acetylenic coupling [2], the Glaser-Hay and Cadiot-Chodkiewicz copper-mediated methods still remain the most used. Further mechanistic investigations seem to be necessary, to overcome the limitations of the existing procedures, mainly poor selectivity and predictability. 

The kinetic approach towards PAMs is carried out mostly and has been used for the synthesis of numerous shape-persistent macrocycles. This approach will be discussed first. The thermodynamic approach has only recently been used for the construction of PAMs and will be discussed afterwards. The development of procedures for the identification of CW agents in biomedical samples is ongoing and existing procedures are continuously improved. Quantization is also an important factor, and an isotope dilution GC/MS/MS method was developed for the quantitative determination of five organophosphorus acids derived from the nerve agents VX, tabun, sarin, soman, and cyclohexyl sarin in urine samples. The acids were isolated and converted into their methyl esters by diazomethane. Detection limits in the low p,g I. 1 were obtained using CID of the protonated molecular ion peaks obtained with isobutane Cl(58). 

Certified reference materials are now available for many environmental materials, and are often used in setting up new methods or for confirming that modifications to existing procedures are acceptable. If the results for a selection of four to five such materials covering a range of determinant and potential interferent concentrations are very close to certified values, this is strong circumstantial evidence that the method is working well.
