Rhinitis asthma

Atopy A genetic predisposition to develop type I hypersensitivity reactions against common environmental antigens commonly seen in patients with allergic rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis. 

Flunisolide is a fast-acting corticoid designed for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, asthma, and other allied respiratory disorders in humans. As the quantum of drug delivered by inhalation (/. e., the usual route of administration of the drug), is invariably small, the plasma-levels attained can also be fairly small. Hence, there is a dire need for a sensitive method of plasma concentration evaluation which is satisfied by radioimmunoassay. 

The second syndrome, characterized by rhinitis, asthma, or both, is an immediate-type airway response mediated by IgE antibodies directed against trimellityl-human protein conjugates. A latent period, ranging from weeks to years, is required between the sensitizing exposure and the onset of symptoms, but once sensitization has occurred, symptoms occur almost immediately on reexposure.

The most severe side effects, which may occur during SLIT, consist of the allergic symptoms themselves such as allergic rhinitis, asthma attacks or atopic eczema [31]. Anaphylactic reactions are not expected, because allergens do not penetrate the mucosa in an unlimited way, thus entering blood vessels, as is possible after injections.

There is steady growing evidence that environmental exposure to insects at home and in the workplace are the frequent causes of allergic sensitization (Arlian 2002). Subsequently clinical symptoms are mainly of respiratory nature, manifested in allergic rhinitis, asthma, and urticaria (Steen et al. 2004), and in some documented cases also via ingestion, causing systemic anaphylaxis. 

Aspirin hypersensitivity is also a potential concern and can occur in two ways (1) a respiratory reaction, which is more profitimd in patients with rhinitis, asthma, or nasal polyps, or (2) a typical type I hypersensitivity reaction, including urticaria, wheals, angioedema, itching, rash, bronchospasm, laryngeal edema, hypotension, shock, or syncope. This latter response generally occurs within 1 hour of aspirin ingestion. Such aspirin intolerance may manifest itself in 4% to 19% of patients with asthma and may approach 40% of steroid-dependent asthmatics. 

A wide range of allergic reactions have been described in patients receiving heparin, including urticaria, conjunctivitis, rhinitis, asthma, cyanosis, tachjrpnea, a feeling of oppression, fever, chUls, angioedema, and anaphylactic shock.

In a systematic review of garlic clinical trials, adverse effects included "smelly" breath and body odor. Other effects, noted as possible but not proven, included flatulence, esophageal and abdominal pain, small intestinal obstruction, dermatitis, rhinitis, asthma, and bleeding (Mulrow et al. 2000). 

Castor oil contains a triglyceride of ricinoleic acid which is hydrolyzed by intestinal lipases to glycerol and ricinoleic acid, which has cathartic effects. Allergic reactions such as angioedema, rhinitis, asthma, and scarlatiniform rashes have been described but seem to be rare reactions to this common laxative (Bennett and Schwartz 1934 Blank 1945). 

As in other types of drug hypersensitivity, skin testing often yields variable results. Farah and Shbaklu (1971) reported positive skin tests on intradermal injections of progesterone and confirmed the sensitivity of both their patients by passive cutaneous transfer tests. Falliers (1974) noted that 10 out of 11 women with either allergic rhinitis/asthma or urticaria had strong positive wheal and erythema reactions. In contrast, the patients treated by Pelikan (1978) did not show a good correlation between the results of nasal provocation and either scratch or patch tests.

Allergic rhinitis, asthma and/or atopic dermatitis were seen in 58 of 234 bakery employees (25%) 14 had atopic dermatitis. Of these 14, 3 had positive intracu-taneous tests to one or more of the flours they used. One of those who had a positive skin test experienced aggravation of hand eczema upon contact with flour, and another experienced aggravation of atopic dermatitis of the neck (Jarvinen et al. 1979).
