Fast-acting

A SAPP with intermediate reactivity is used in combination with fast-acting MCP for the manufacturer of industrial baking powder and for retail and wholesale prepared cake mixes. SAPP imparts a bitter aftertaste which is often characterized as a mild burning sensation, especially when used in a product of low sweetness. SAPP is normally used at an NV of 72. However, it may be used at slightly higher or lower NV to obtain specific effects in certain types of baked goods. [Pg.469]

A patientpreoperative skin preparation is a fast-acting broad-spectmm antimicrobial-containing preparation that significantly reduces the number of microorganisms on intact skin. [Pg.140]

Special Arrester Types and Alternatives Several types of unlisted arresters (water seals, packed beds, velocity-type devices, and fast-acting valves) mentioned in API 2028 are described more fully in Howard (1982). There are few design or test data for hydraulic and packed-bed arresters some types are designed and used by indiviciual companies for specific applications, while others are commercially available. Figure 26-27 shows some special arrester types. [Pg.2305]

Various protective instruments are used to provide a shutdown signal (to a fast-acting trip valve at the expander inlet) that senses various things, such as overspeed, lubricant pressure, bearing temperature, lubricant temperature, shaft runout, icing, lubricant level, thrustbearing load, and process variables such as sensitive temperatures, levels, pressures, etc. However, too many safety shutdown devices may lead to excessive nuisance shutdowns. [Pg.2524]

Current limiting devices need not be protected, since they are already very fast acting and. hence, self-protected. [Pg.365]

As a group, the cyanides are among the most toxic and fast-acting poisons. (This is due to the cyanide ion which interferes with cellular oxidation.)... [Pg.126]

The failure of circulation of DjO in sequence 4 was dominated by relay chatter that caused closure of rotovalves in the DjO system. These fast acting rotovalves could close off DjO flow to the core... [Pg.419]

A variety of fast-acting valves are available, inclnding slide gate, flap (bnt-terfly), and float (poppet) valves. Slide gate and flap type valves are actn-ated (closed) npon a signal from a detector (sensor) in the pipeline between two items of interconnected process eqnipment. The detector sends a... [Pg.41]

Fast-Acting Valve A valve that closes a path of deflagration propagation in a pipe or duct in response to upstream detection of a deflagration. [Pg.201]

The most important fluorinated benzodiazepine, flurazepam (21) has found considerable use (and abuse) as a hypnotic [I4 Flumazenil (22) is a fast-acting antidote in the treatment of benzodiazepine intoxication and m the reversal of the CNS effects of benzodiazepines dunng anesthesia [f<5,19]... [Pg.1122]

Hemiequilibria, a pseudoequilibrium that can occur when a fast-acting agonist equilibrates with a receptor system where a slow acting antagonist is present. The agonist will occupy the nonantagonist bound receptors quickly and... [Pg.279]

ZANAMIVIR There is a risk for bronchospasm in patients with asthma or COPD. A fast-acting bron-chodilator should be on hand in case bronchospasm occurs. Zanamivir use should be discontinued and the primary health care provider notified promptly if respiratory symptoms worsen. [Pg.126]

Salmeterol is a long-acting inhaled bronchodilator and is not used to treat acute asthma symptoms. It does not replace the fast-acting inhalers for sudden symptoms. Salmeterol should not be used more frequently than twice daily (morning and evening). [Pg.342]

Improvements in the monitoring and operation of incinerators could minimize the accidental release of hazardons efflnents. In particular, fast-acting, continuous, on-line monitors are needed to detect excursions in operating conditions that could lead to toxic emissions. [Pg.142]
