Responsible Care Codes of Management

EMS the short CER only discusses how Air Products discharges its obligations under the six Responsible Care codes of management practice. However, the internet report identifies that two sites in Europe achieved ISO 14001 certification in 1999 and that the corporate headquarters and two US plants were inspected under the Chemical Manufacturers management verification system in 1998. 

EMS Ashland Distribution and Ashland Specialty Chemical are stated to be industry leaders in implementing the Responsible Care Codes of Management Practice . Even so a no score has been awarded since no mention is made of any involvement in the Management Verification System run by the US Chemical Manufacturers Association.

The Chemical Manufacturers Association was renamed the American Chemistry Council in 2000. All members of the American Chemistry Council must adhere to the Responsible Care Codes of Management Practices and report to the Council on their implementation. One of the six elements of Responsible Care is the Codes of Management Practice, and one of the codes is the Process Safety Code of Management Practices (34). This code emphasi2es management commitment and accountabiUty, information sharing, and community relations, but also includes 11 of the 14 specific elements of the legislated process safety management standards developed later. 

The Chemical Manufacturers Association s Code of Management Practice for Process Safety is oriented toward the chemical industry, and describes the elements of a process safety management program as part of CMA s Responsible Care program.

If your product can pose a chemical reactivity hazard by itself or in combination with other materials, good product stewardship includes providing safety-related information to customers and users. Other aspects of product stewardship, some of which are also applicable to chemical reactivity hazard management, are outlined in the American Chemistry Council s Product Stewardship Responsible Care Code (ACC 2001). 

The American Chemistry Council recognizes this area in Management Practice 5, Information Sharing, as an integral part of the code of Responsible Care Process Safety Code of Management Practices. 

As previously stated, the American Chemistry Council also recognizes this concept as an integral part of the code of Responsible Care , Process Safety Code of Management Practices, Companies should openly share nonproprietary results from internal process safety incident investigations and related research through the auspices of trade and professional associations, and other networking opportunities. Other organizations should strive to benefit from the lessons learned by others and keep abreast of latest developments and safety alerts. 

Is a system in place that evaluates the usefulness and advisability of sharing this information with other companies in a similar business, per Responsible Care Process Safety Code of Management Practices 4.3 and 5 ... 

In the 1980s, Responsible Care s six Codes of Management Practices served as a framework for the chemical companies to use internal processes to improve performance. Overall, environmental performance did improve because of a commitment to the codes and expanding regulatory requirements (Yosie, 2003). Members of the CCPA steadily improved their environmental and workplace health and safety records throughout the 1990s. Their records indicate a steady decline in workplace injuries and a marked reduction in the frequency and severity of transportation incidents (CCPA, 1999). 

EMS the annual review states that the main process by which ICI manages SITE issues and seeks to meet its objectives is the Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) . While the RCMS is stated to comply with the US and UK Responsible Care codes, ISO 14001 and the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) Business Charter for Sustainable Development, it is not of itself a recognised environmental management system, and therefore a no score has been awarded. 

The two primary industry consensns programs for managing transportation risk are the Responsible Care Distribntion Code of Management Practices and the National Association of Chemical Distribntors Responsible Distribution Process (RDP). These programs share similar elements and are widely used across the chemical distribution supply chain. Responsible Care is a recognized internationally performance-based system that contains the following elements ...
