Poly-coated board

Another method of applying conducting polymers to direct electrolytic metallization of circuit boards was introduced by Blasberg Oberflachentechnik [89]. They reported an in situ polymerization route to deposit polypyrrole [89] and poly-3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene [91] on the surface of a circuit board. The overall process is depicted in Fig. 32.24. The substrate is first selectively coated with an oxidant solution. The monomer (pyrrole or 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) is subsequently introduced followed by acid-induced in situ polymerization of the monomer. The conducting polymer-coated board can then be directly electrolytically copper plated. The polypyrrole process referred to as DMS-2 was marketed by Blasberg Oberflachentechnik in 1990 [89]. The polythiophene process, DMS-E, has also since been mar-... [Pg.936]

A primary use of vinyhdene chloride copolymer lacquers is the coating of films made from regenerated ceUulose or of board or paper coated with polyamide, polyester, polypropylene, poly(vinyl chloride), and polyethylene. The lacquer imparts resistance to fats, oils, oxygen, and water vapor (165). [Pg.442]

UV curable coatings are applied to a variety of flat, rigid substrates, such as particle board, medium- and high-density fiberboard, wood veneers, polycarbonate, poly(methylmethacrylate), paper, and metal sheets and foils. An example of a formulation for UV curable coatings is in Table 7.1. [Pg.143]

Polymer-coated heat sealable packaging materials are composed of several layers (64). The material includes a fiber base of packaging paper or packaging board, an outer polymeric heat sealing layer, such as low density poly(ethylene) (LDPE), and an inner polymeric... [Pg.59]

Even when plastics are not a preferred material for the structural element of paneling, they are often incorporated as a surface coating or sheet to enhance aesthetics. Some lay-in ceiling panels for commercial and institutional applications consist of gypsum board covered with a poly(vinyl chloride) surface sheet to add a textured appearance. Many more are based on gypsum board or mineral wall with a fiber glass or PVC surface. [Pg.335]

The protection of electronic devices has been a key application for specialty silicones, and this application continues to keep pace with the rate of device development (5). Silicones are used in various ways, ranging from resinous circuit board coatings to encapsulants, with the silicone gels representing a unique solution to a diflScult problem, stress relief These dielectric gels are prepared by hydrosilation and are lightly cross-linked poly(dimethylsiloxane)s. Their modulus is extremely low, but they are elastic in their behavior. They have the stress-relief characteristic of a liquid but the nonflow property of an elastomer. These jellylike materials maintain their physical profile over the broad temperature range of-80 to 200 °C. [Pg.759]

A poly(ester-imide) powder is coated on an electrolytic copper foil of 35 my thickness by an electrostatic spray coating machine and baked at 200 °C for 30 min. The substrata obtained is useful for printed circuit board manufacturing [268]. [Pg.75]

Two coats of these paints were applied 5 h apart over a heavily chalked latex paint on a white pine board. Because significant differences have been seen between individual chalky test substrates, common control paints containing unmodified HASE, (hydroxyethyl)cellulose (HEC), and HEUR thickeners were included in each test. Test paints were dried for 18 h at 25 BC and 50% relative humidity and then placed in a fog box for 5 h. (The fog box is a Plexiglas (poly(methyl methacrylate)) box with six spray nozzles on the inside top that continuously spray a fine mist of water over the painted panels placed about 15B off the vertical in racks about 10 in. (1 in. z 2.54 cm) below the nozzles.) We used two different fog boxes one sprayed deionized water and one sprayed tap water. [Pg.544]

The substrates or support coated on include paper and paper board, cellophane, polyCethylene terephthalate), poly(ethylene naphthalate), polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyCvinyl chloride), polyCvinyl fluoride), poly(vinylidene fluoride), polyimide, metal foils, woven and nonwoven fabrics, fibers, and metal coils. The surfaces of these supports can be impervious as in plastic films, or there may be a pore structure such as in paper. Primer coatings... [Pg.1377]

A review (16) and a book (17) on the chemistry and properties of poly(ether ketones) have been published. PEEK is present in the market also in reinforced grades (glass or carbon fibers) as well as in yams or in powder for coatings. Fibers are marketed by ICI imder the trade name Zyex. PEEK found application in the transport, teletronics, and aerospace sectors, with the fabrication of injection-molded engineering components and circuit boards. PEEK materials have also foimd a place in medical technologies. For this purpose, their biological and toxicological safety has been certified (14). [Pg.2587]
